I think he's probably an IEI, but at times I want to say ILI. He's a definite IP, and I'd be hard pressed to suggest a Si type for the kind of man who makes the kind of dark music which he does. But if this is just superficial, I guess SEI is a possibility. However, in the second part of the Moscow interview, he says he has long hair because he "can't be fucked to cut it" and a beard because he "can't be bothered to shave it". Occasionally I think he speaks like a young child. Notice at 3:30 in the same section, he says that he didn't want to play at one gig, but his friends suggested that he should, so that they could get a free holiday. So he played. I'd argue for a weakness in Se, but valuing it.
The reason I say ILI is because he doesn't really show much sign of Fe creative. He doesn't seem to "get in the mood"; he just has a blank face, answers the questions etc.
Another quote: "I never really plan anything, it just happens". What could that mean functionally?
Here are some more interesting things I found on wiki:
That thing about creating software sounds like the kind of thing niffweed would do. An ILI thing.James described himself in The Guardian as follows: "I'm just some irritating, lying, ginger kid from Cornwall who should have been locked up in some youth detention centre. I just managed to escape and blag it into music."
James said he composed ambient techno music at the age of 13; he has "over 100 hours" of unreleased music; he made his own software to compose with, including algorithmic processes that automatically generate beats and melodies; he experiences synesthesia; and he is able to incorporate lucid dreaming into the process of making music.
As for synesthesia - who is more likely to experience it? Si or Ni ego types? Lucid dreaming I'd say was a Ni thing perhaps.
He once went to a gig where he played white noise for the entire set. At another, he stood in front of the crowd, and when they started booing, he recorded it, then played it back to them for an hour.
This kind of behaviour is to be expected from, again, an ILI. niffweed has acted in a similarly seemingly senseless and irrational way in the past when he has posted random code or extracts from different wiki articles on the forum. On the other hand, he could be doing this to get a reaction. He recognises his legendary status within the electronic music community, and perhaps he thought he was invincible. But he has always said that he doesn't give a shit what people make of his music. He makes it for himself, as he said in the first part of the Moscow interview.Originally Posted by Channel 4 Planet Sound teletext
