    Default Philsophical "fun"

This is in MBTI but Im sure it can be applied universally. That said, Im just posting this for the links at the bottoms describing the issues. I think it can reflect us, too, so it is worth a look.

Edit: To clarify, I meant these linked defines:

Cold reading, confirmation bias, communal reinforcement, shoehorning, self-deception, anecdotal evidence and wishful thinking.

And don't forget the fundamental attribution error and the Barnum effect.

And my favorite expression, circle jerking. The more vile the expression, the more it hits home for me.

    Agreed.
I wonder then, when and why do we, others, people get caught up in that kind of phenomenon. When does common sense get placed on the back burner... and how is that avoided...

Common sense is conforming to those effects, not the other way around. Beating the constraints of the human mind requires a reanalysis of your current state at all times. Most of those effects happen because through the course of your thought process, variables get added to your reasoning and others become forgotten.

Ahhh, from my perspective common sense is what you say below.

Constant evaluating = common sense. That's what I thought FDG and Diana were stating.

Common sense is what common people do, no? Well, common people are idiots, obviously.

Only 5% of the population has common sense---not very common now, is it?

Posts I wrote in the past contain less nuance.
If you're in this forum to learn something, be careful. Lots of misplaced toxicity.

~a certain mysterious power that may prove terribly fascinating to the extraverted man, for it touches his unconscious.

I see what you're saying, I think. I hope I don't pollute what you are saying in order to make sense of it! LOL.

People find it easier to adopt the common beliefs (no matter how rational/irrational those common beliefs may be) rather than exercise their minds.

The definition you provided of common sense is very much a true ongoing dynamic that continues to plague humanity!!!

    I wasn't implying that I wasn't a common person.

The errors of reasoning are not beliefs but rather fundamental characteristics of human thinking, characteristics that cannot be overcome without knowledge of them and long-term, deliberate action. I highly doubt the person who states that he does not conform to these phenomena.

If you don't like the wording, then pretend it isn't there or something.
