i liked the first song and made it basically all the way through. it was easy to like it. i couldn't watch much of any of the second song and the third is disabled by request. the philip glass song i liked a fair amount and towards the monks chanting i found myself focusing more on my environment and then decided to respond.
cheers to the enfj previous who reframed the thread and made it self referential. is there an echo in here? p.s. HAHAHA @ the fish at the end. was that an ENFP? granted the whole theme seemed very INFP.

"I'm Sick of Old Men Dreaming Up Wars for Young Men To Die In," George McGovern.
I like to think that the whole song is an EIE talkng to an LSI, and the voice at the end is the LSI
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

I can't stop listening to this song...it's perfect for how I'm sorta feeling right now.
FML!!!
Yesterday I knew nothing, today I know that.
But...I think i'll be singing this song eventually too. LOL
Yesterday I knew nothing, today I know that.
Bent - Swollen: nothing objectionable, but got bored of the repetition and started skimming through it; totally not in the mood right now to deal with a song like that (though on some levels it reminded me of Blonde Redhead, which is one of my fave bands, but one I only listen to in certain moods); really frickin' long
Leftfield - Swords: v1 - yes, did find that version annoying, lasted 1 min; v2 - interesting song, felt kind of 'slow' to me, but I didn't feel the urge to start skimming, let it play in the background
Royksopp - What Else Is There?: epicfail
Philip Glass - Prophesies: nice background music, non-distracting (got all my emails read to it), very soothing and the variation in note lengths kept it interesting, I'd listen to it again...and then it ended suddenly which made me go
(and I like 'How Does This Make You Feel', but then I really love AIR and I have a lot more patience for songs that I already know/like, I'm usually far more critical the first time I hear a song.)
allez cuisine!
Air is the shit.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,

Under cerulean skies...
FUCKIN' A
Air are absolutely awesome. A few of my favourite tunes by them:
(VID WTF)
"Elephant Woman" and "Top Ranking" FTW. I had a few of their albums for a while, but besides those songs they didn't really interest me.
WHAT! It's a fuckin' amazing tune!Royksopp - What Else Is There?: epicfail
You're not alone there. I think most people feel this way.I have a lot more patience for songs that I already know/like, I'm usually far more critical the first time I hear a song.)
Because I love all of them. I wanted to see how many of my own quadra also like them.
Also, it fuels the position that music tastes have nothing to do with quadra (thus rendering the idea of functions made evident in songs useless.
FTR, these songs are fuckin' awesome.
Wrong epicfail. I meant I couldn't open it, and cbb to go search it on youtube last night, so I haven't actually heard it yet.
I think there may be some very general correlations between music taste and quadras, but I'm not sure it filters down to the level of specific songs. Like all the music you listed here fit into genres I listen to, but in terms of liking a particular song, that's just such a personal process. It depends on what mood you're in, when you first hear it, where you're listening to it.
ps, fave AIR track: Cherry Blossom Girl

Personally I am partial to La Femme de Argent.

Funny you mention Radiohead; I just started listening to them again today. Disc 1 of In Rainbows is in my car cd player right now, and I've been thinking about burning Disc 2.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,

I liked ESTP's picks. I think we're in similar moods.
FML Sirena
You know what will make you feel sexy? and slightly up beat for a few mins...is this :
and some of this:
maybe not the lyrics....but you get the gist sorta
I heart this one right now lotssssss
HEHEH
This shit puts me in a good mood...sorta
but here...this one perhaps.........will make you feel the best:
Yesterday I knew nothing, today I know that.
Maybe if more people were this honest:
Life and relationships of every sort would be more slimple and easy going...you know...be honest with yourselves first and foremost.
Yesterday I knew nothing, today I know that.
This is the song....that I'm singing the most.
Yesterday I knew nothing, today I know that.
LOL @ your avatar ESTP
I liked the video for "gives you hell." For some reason I found myself identifying more with the button-down straight edge dude...I mean, so many people pick on "that guy," make him a target, make the whole 9-5 stable life out to be some sort of demonic perversion of human existence. Is it really? How many people who try to hate on that guy have actually lived his life?
Whatever, I'm probably just bullshitting and only wanna be him because he's married and I'm lonely as balls Everything else about the other dude's life appeals to me more anyways
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
Whilst our laughter echoed,
Under cerulean skies...
OMG I love that song. I remember hearing that on the radio (not surprisingly, haha, since you got it off rage) and I always liked it though hadn't looked it up. But yes, awesome. Also loved the music vid, lol, watched it the whole way through.
Here's something for you (I think the intensity of this song works so much better live, the studio version never did it as much for me):
You're so on. Though I'd expect to be repaid. With interest.

That reminds me...I fucking LOVE Bjork, and I'm sure most of you do/will, too.
My favorite song of hers music-wise:
Favorite lyrics-wise:
<3 that song to bits; it helped me get the balls to ask my first girlfriend out.
Vespertine is easily in my top 5 albums of all time. Not that I have a set top 5 really; it fluctuates a lot. But here are some of my favorites:
Bjork - Vespertine
Beatles - White Album
Tortoise - It's All Around You
Explosions in the Sky - All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone
Air - Moon Safari
Morcheeba - Who Can You Trust?
The Doors - Morrison Hotel and The Soft Parade
Beck - Sea Change
The Flaming Lips - At War with the Mystics and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Groove Armada - Vertigo

That's wicked. I'm gonna download their debut.
I bet that gig was awesome to be at.
Yep, Björk is quality. I'm only acquainted with a couple of her albums - Debut, Homogenic and Medúlla - the first two of which I love, the latter of which I'm not too keen on, because I'm not a fan of beatbox and I'm not that interested in a capella. I might have to delve into some more of her stuff.
lol, have you heard of her debut album, Björk, released in '77? She was twelve.
This is my favourite by her:
The Grey Album - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaBeatles - White Album
Do you know the album Standards? I had that for a while, but I got rid of it because I needed to free up some space I think.Tortoise - It's All Around You
I might have another look at these guys; my dad was into post-rock years ago, and I had one of these albums. I didn't like it as much as some of the Godspeed You or Silver Mount Zion stuff, but I remember it being pretty decent.Explosions in the Sky - All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone
Best album by them.Morcheeba - Who Can You Trust?
I love all of Beck except Midnite Vultures, but I prefer his more upbeat stuff like Guero, Odelay and The Information to his more folky/acoustic/alt. country stuff.Beck - Sea Change
The former album is good, but the latter is masterful. The middle of the album is the best. The Flaming Lips - At War with the Mystics and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Very good album (I only started listening to it properly very recently), although my favourite has to be Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub). I must say though, Northern Star is another I've listened to recently, and that's pretty fucking quality.Groove Armada - Vertigo
God, you like all the same music as me. It's like, we have something in common or...something.
Vespertine is Bjork's best album. Listen to it.
I'll be sure to check out the Grey Album. Also I haven't run into much stuff like Explosions; I'll have to check out those bands you mentioned.
Oh, and I'm sure that, being British, you've heard of Mogwai? Happy Songs for Happy People should have been on that list.
Standards is an ok album, but It's All Around You is by far Tortoise's best work, IMO. It's the kind of music you just have to put headphones on and ride the train/sit in a dimly lit room alone/take a long drive headed nowhere to.
Morcheeba is a band that has a bunch of albums that fit different moods of mine; that one is definitely their most quality, but Charango and Parts of the Process can be good at the right time, too.
Beck is awesome just for sheer diversity. I love Sea Change; best depression music ever. Guero is a very solid album; one of his more diverse albums, and probably his most listen-able on a regular basis. I was enthralled with The Information for a while, but it got boring after over-listening, which, thankfully, never happened with Guero. Odelay is good for upbeat; it definitely showcases more of his punk and post-modern influences. And, surprisingly, I love Midnight Vultures That seems to be the one that most hardcore Beck fans have a problem with, but sometimes it's just right. I typically listen to it when I'm either feeling crazy or cleaning my apartment
The Flaming Lips are just downright awesome, and those are by far their two most stand-out albums.
Vertigo is, I think, their best album by far, but judging by your taste I think you would really get into Soundboy Rock, which is (I think) their most recent; it's more "techno" than most of their stuff, but somehow it maintains that unique Groove Armada funky feeling. And yeah, Goodbye Country, Hello Nightclub is really good. Lovebox is good, too, IMO; there are a few real stand-out tracks on it, like But I Feel Good and Remember (LOVE this one!). I have Northern Star too, but I have yet to listen to it as extensively/religiously as their others; I'll have to check it out.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,

You're totally right ESTP. Liked all the songs and couldn't help but feel upbeat at the AAR one. Thanks! You're cool. I love listening to music to fit my mood or change it.
lol
Have you got last.fm? If not, get one. If so, add me: facingeast.
I am doing so as we speak.Vespertine is Bjork's best album. Listen to it.
Oh yeah, you should definitely do so, man. Some of it is incredibly depressing, but also beautiful.I'll be sure to check out the Grey Album. Also I haven't run into much stuff like Explosions; I'll have to check out those bands you mentioned.
Listen to this track. I used it as the basis for my GCSE English Language exam question "Describe a Nightmare World". I got an A.
These are my favourite songs (they are so long they are split up):
(Very evocative)
(Fucking epic)
I have indeed. Hunted By A Freak is a fucking awesome tune.Oh, and I'm sure that, being British, you've heard of Mogwai? Happy Songs for Happy People should have been on that list.
I'll check it out when I have some space.Standards is an ok album, but It's All Around You is by far Tortoise's best work, IMO. It's the kind of music you just have to put headphones on and ride the train/sit in a dimly lit room alone/take a long drive headed nowhere to.
My first intro to them was Big Calm, which I liked. Again, I had to free up some space, so I think I got rid of the other two.Morcheeba is a band that has a bunch of albums that fit different moods of mine; that one is definitely their most quality, but Charango and Parts of the Process can be good at the right time, too.
Well, you sure as shit won't get me listening to it.And, surprisingly, I love Midnight Vultures That seems to be the one that most hardcore Beck fans have a problem with, but sometimes it's just right. I typically listen to it when I'm either feeling crazy or cleaning my apartment
To be honest, I listened to some of their other stuff a while ago, and I didn't like it that much. Those are the only two albums I own and really like. The Flaming Lips are just downright awesome, and those are by far their two most stand-out albums.
Have you heard the album Zaireeka? My mate who loves the Lips put it on one time on four CD players and made it work.
I love Soundboy Rock. I went through a phase of listening to it like, every day. But I stopped because I didn't want it to lose its magic. I will definitely listen to it some more in the coming months. Especially summer - all GA is a brilliant summer soundtrack.Vertigo is, I think, their best album by far, but judging by your taste I think you would really get into Soundboy Rock, which is (I think) their most recent; it's more "techno" than most of their stuff, but somehow it maintains that unique Groove Armada funky feeling. Well what you've posted from GSYBA is pretty cool, but I have a hard time seeing it as being quite so appealing without the videos. The one with the nukes was fucking sweet though, and the first song gave me an interesting idea for a thread.
/me revels in good music

Script of the Bridge is awesome - 'Don't Fall,' 'Pleasure and Pain' and 'Less than Human' would be my fave tracks off it, along with 'Second Skin' of course. I'd add to the must-listen list the tracks 'In Shreds', 'Intrigue in Tangiers', 'Tears' and 'Soul in Isolation'. The Chams are the music of my fucking soul.
Which reminds me, what's your position on Interpol? Personally I resisted them for a few years, but then caved in and admitted that I am a fan and they are more than a cheap Joy Division knockoff. ('Love Will Tear Us Apart' still has to be one of the most perfect songs ever written.)
haha, my IEI was like 'you have to listen to Beck, you'll love him' and I totally resisted for ages. Then I saw him at a festival (with the puppets!!) and was blown away. Very fun stuff, and you just never get bored with his body of work.I love all of Beck except Midnite Vultures, but I prefer his more upbeat stuff like Guero, Odelay and The Information to his more folky/acoustic/alt. country stuff.
Good to know I won't have to put a paper bag over your head when you're tied to the bed then.
And because unefille demanded music sharing, throwing up here what I'm listening to now:
(awesome music vid, but probably makes more sense if you're Aussie)
allez cuisine!
I'm big on neither of them, although from what I've heard of them I prefer Joy Division far more.
Funny you mention Beck. Out of over 10,000 songs on my iTunes on shuffle, Beck happened to be the artist that came on as I read this message.haha, my IEI was like 'you have to listen to Beck, you'll love him' and I totally resisted for ages. After listening to the first minute of the first video, I felt like I could go on a search and destroy mission, but I think that is from the super Nintendo games I played during childhood.

I got into Interpol via 'Our Love To Admire' which I wrote about half my thesis to. But 'Turn On the Bright Lights' is pretty brilliant, and great music to be miserable to. Actually, they are one of the few bands I think hasn't released a bad album. Joy Division, ah, how that defined being 17. I'm leaving that for my IEI friend to push (because I bet she's reading this, the dirty lurker), since she does that so well.
I spy with my little eye...Que Onda Guero!100 points for the name of the song.
*makes face* I'm not sure I like being Echo in this equation...
They are so quality. Check them out on youtube, they're pretty underrated, but there's still enough stuff available there. I listed what I think are their best tracks in a reply to Ez earlier on in the thread too, if that helps.
