    Default George Lucas

    What was his type?

I'm gonna go out on a whim and say he is an Intuitive-ethical Introvert, INFp. I know I'm breaking my rule of all celebrities being ENTp. Still, his work seems like the product of Ni, and he just gives off that "feel" that some of INFp guys have.
    MAYBE I'LL BREAK DOWN!!!

He's the creator of fucking STAR WARS!!! He can't be anything BUT an INTj.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

Well, I've seen that he spent years making the movies under a lot of deadline pressure and stuff going wrong. I just couldn't see myself ever doing something for so long, having to talk to so many people all the time, and during filmmaking constantly not change things because they seem boring... I don't know, maybe.

    Well he's technically autistic.

I'm proposing ISTx: the Historian. He has traits of both ISTPs and ISTJs. Whenever you hear him explain something, it's always really simple... "He's just a guy who has a really screwed up life...", so he said of Darth Vader. Of course this is a simplification and an intentional one. ISTxs are extremely precise in their wordings and are veritable encyclopedias of information. They can use these vast repositories of facts to create artificial histories. (Like Star Wars, for example) ISTxs make a point of accumulating information from as many nonfiction sources as they can. I for one end up looking like a fool when I argue with one. (so do all INTJs... INTPs, too.)

    He's definitely not INTJ.

I have a 20/20 documentary of George Lucas where he talks about his company and family life. The things I found most shocking was that he looks, acts, thinks very much like my old INTj roommate in college did. Similar gestures, hairstyles, and tone of voice. EVERYTHING!

So, I think it would be 'quick-on-the-draw' not to consider George Lucas's type to be INTj, but ISTj and INFp I admit do seem like possibilities.

Maybe he's an INTj who grew up with ISTp's like me.

The first Star Wars film was released in 1977, already with Jedi swords, and Excalibur was hardly the first movie to show swords.

No offense, but this was one of the silliest statements ever.

EDIT: I agree with your general point about Lucas plagiarizing other movies or books.

Dude, socionic type is about what kind of people you like and find easy to be around and why. Things like where you get your ideas for your artistic creations are like the 8th derivative of type.

    Some tidbits:
Lucas doesn't even have a computer at home (or he doesn't have e-mail -- one of the two)
He raises two adopted children on his own.
He is a long-time close buddy of Steven Spielberg, who is much more outspoken and visible. They have done lots of films together and like to take vacations together.

Sergei Ganin types Lucas as LII and Spielberg as IEE. That would be a supervisory relationship...

I think Rick may well be right.

I read that Lucas dreamed of being a car race pilot, was an amateur racer and almost died in an accident -- that doesn't sound very INTj.

On the other hand, in interviews, Lucas has said that, among the several fields of moviemaking, he enjoys editing the most. Not directing (he has said he dislikes the people-management part of it) or even writing - he prefers editing.

Despite the supposed richness of his "universe", his movies focus on action and sensorial stimuli - not big ideas.

I strongly recommend reading this long interview with Lucas where he tells about his childhood and his life.

Note that Lucas makes no "sharp" or categorical statements whatsoever and that his speech uses a minimal amount of concepts. He speaks using normal everyday concepts, and not with the intention of trying to get the listener to understand something "difficult," but simply to accurately tell about his life.

He seems like a Ti-leading type. Star Wars, when it came out, was pretty representative of Alpha values, but also Beta ones (Ne and Se and Si and Ni), Gamma and Delta are impossible (the super-limited originality and effectiveness/long-term impact of systems-making in Te-valuing types). Maybe an LSI-Se, it's just that they usually aren't that "revolutionary" when it comes to visual arts as film directors and concept creators, but neither are LII really. And even in business you only see two or three anywhere near as original and successful as John D. Rockefeller once every few thousand years, if even that frequently. Still, George Lucas was pretty strong-willed and it's about wars and conflicts so I'm going with LSI-Se.

He is NOT Ti lead... That is rather obvious to me.
    Temperament seems Je.
    Star Wars is Delta.

George Lucas is definitely INTJ. He saw his whole project from start to finish, way ahead of its time. His grasp of archetypes, themes, engineering, is very nerd like and refined.

He may be a lot like an INFP with the way he pictures these dreamscapes and alternative frontiers of fictional wonderland and high flying adventure, but he is not good with people like NF.

He's too free spirited and evanescent to be INFJ. I see Lucas as more of the cloudy and hazy way of thinking like INTJ rather than the logical or supernatural way of thinking like INFJ.

And anyway, how Lucas transformed himself into the Force to actualize Star Wars, make that story come true, spontaneously comprehend whole revolutionary globes and worlds of flair, it's terribly impressive. My vote goes to George Lucas as an INTJ.

I Love Star Wars by the way. It's so intergalactic, stellar, massive, soaring, sweeping, elemental, a journey of heroism and hyper-spatial legacy!!

George Lucas is an Intj. He visualized extreme projections and farfetched schemata way ahead of its time decades into the future. He was a dreamer, a pioneer, an inventor. His stories are masterfully woven with abstract themes, much like the Hero’s Journey that he, along with Kobe, another Intj read. And even by Intj standards, Lucas was highly theoretical, highly Ne, highly philosophical, and his imagination was free. The sagas, wisdom, and wizardry of Lucas could only be Intj…
