    Default Gamma recommended reading books/authors

I recently started to read Jack London (ENTJ). And he wrote well. So I got interested in other ENTJ writers, but unfortunately I don't know any other. So could you be so kind and write in here the names of the writers, who you think are or were ENTJs.

You can read my ENTj friend's blog, if that helps any.

Yes, that blog is very well written, and if it weren't on Spymac.com, maybe more people would read it. Spymac offers absolutely NO advertising, so the only way to get people to read it is to inform them everytime I write something. Elsewise, no one would know if I wrote anything, and word-of-mouth won't necessarily work whenever you aren't sure if you are going to post "often enough". I'm considering moving or at least mirroring my blog on http://www.blogger.com.

Anyway, it is good, and should I actually post more, I'd bet a lot more people would read it (I have over 2000 hits, which for a spymac blog (remember, no advertising) is great, considering the people that have been there for years only have a few hundred hits). I write about pretty much anything, and right now I'm working on the "Earl's Dictionary", where I write the common-day meanings to all my non-standard words I use. I also like to do technical reports, write my opinion on software or movies, or possibly write about my day. Overall, I give it 4 out of 5 stars, missing one for not updating it "often enough".

    Default Gamma writers

My original list in serious need of editing...

Here's another attempt at guessing types
    Terry Pratchett, maybe ESFj
George R.R. Martin & Stephen King, quite possibly ENFj
    Roger Zelazny, maybe ENTp
    H.P. Lovecraft, probably an INTP.
    Joe Michael Straczynski, ENTj

Isn't Tolkien INTp? I think you've read his stuff though.

Have read the middle-earth books, not the short stories. I'm not so sure about the INTP though. He could be, but the idea bothers me for some reason. I might go for INFP myself. The level of pathos in his books surpasses any that I've seen a confirmed INTP express.

I do love his books though. The piece about Beren and Luthien remains the most heart-wrenching thing I've read.

What about the story of Turin and family? At least Beren and Luthien had it better off in the end.

It's mostly a re-work of a very old Finnish story 'Kullervo' from the national epic Kalevala, mixed with some stuff from Beowulf. I agree that the negativity on that one is worthy of an INTP but even then, it's not cynical as one would expect. INTP would mean that the person has Fe-phobia even of strong negative feeling. Anyway, I figure there's no clear evidence of INTPness in turin turambar -story.

    (edit)

Oh, sorry. I misunderstood you. You meant the heart-wrenching stuff. It's easier for me to associate with Beren. I feel that pain and the love he feels for Luthien both, and the two blend into another kind of emotion and I don't really know how to read the story without crying. Turin's story is a clear-cut tragedy. It's easier to handle. Sure there is more pain, but he calls the pain on himself often enough. It's easy to be cynical about him.

The story element is very good. I'd probably like the story more if it was told from the sister's perspective.

    Default Gamma recommended books/reading

OK in the spirit of producing posts per another thread:

What do the fellow Gamma types here like to read? I'm a big Sci-Fi / Fantasy reader, and am currently doing a re-read of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, in anticipation of his new release later this year - "A Feast for Crows." By far the best fantasy series I've read to date, so I highly recommend it.

I also regularly read Entrepreneur and FSB (Forbes Small Business), and the occasional GQ so I can sound like I know what I'm talking about regarding in-styles w/ my wife (a very well dressed ISFJ).

I'm always looking for a good read, so let me know what some of you would recommend, regardless of genre.

Lewis Carroll is nice. The Alice books are definitely well worth a read.

Stephen King's Dark Tower series is an excellent ENTJ experience.

Roger Zelazny's Amber series is one of the best mind twisters around.

    Have fun!

I'm convinced that Antoine de Saint-Exupery is ENTJ and that his Little Prince pictures the ENTj's soul in the best manner.
    ENTJ's mind & ISFJ's soul - that's the best combination ))

Sci-Fi and Fantasy for myself as well. I read a LOT, so I won't bother with specific books - just a list of authors whose work i've enjoyed over the last few years:

    Robert Jordan
    Isaac Asimov
    Arthur C. Clarke
    Eric Flint
    Robert Asprin
    Robert A. Heinlein
    George Martin
    Frank Herbert
    Nick Pollotta
    R. A. Salvatore
    David Weber
    Lois McMaster Bujold
    Jim Butcher
    David Eddings
    Neil Gaiman
    Terry Pratchett

    ------

I've read about 80% of everything the writers above have ever written, so I feel quite safe recommending these names...

    Bump.

    Christopher Hitchens is an ISFj.

For an example of Gamma NT, I recommend Robert Conquest -- I think he's ENTj but he might also be INTp.

His latest book, The Dragons of Expectation, is a manifesto of Gamma NT values.

    Now there's a surprise.

What on earth make you think that?!?

The Little Prince is a very endearing character, but I suspect that people from varying types identify with the lil` guy. I know I do.

Saint-Exupery seems way too philosophical to be ENTj. (That's just my personal opinion. I've only known/id'd a few.) Plus, he was quite the ladies man. I don't care for much fiction, but his Wind Sand and Stars was a wonderful read. If you haven't read it and are a fan of his writing, I strongly recommend it.

I see some of them were typed differently but always end up in Gamma. Interesting.
