NT, maybe? My guess is ~ same type as Phaedrus. That is to say: based on these few pics, INTp is perhaps the best fit within Socionics' data norms. Although, some data on INTjs, ENTps and ENTjs might also seem applicable, depending on whose info you're looking at (since there still exists much scrambled data within the realm of socionics.)
What do you think?

Possible....... the last pic is the least representational just FYI.....
Things we've liked to do my whole life include playing chess together and doing crosswords (he's rediculously good at crosswords)..... he has a semi dry sense of humor.... a little bit like my own.
He was a cinematographer his whole life...... and always hates it when we watch movies and there's shaky camera work. He's fairly set in his ways for the most part and likes things a certain way. He's pretty pleasant to be around for the most part and gets along pretty well with everyone, though at times he can be very stubborn.
He always compliments me when I do something well.... also he always looks to make sure that everyone is doing alright in the room, making sure to get them drinks or that they're comfortable.

Whew, that sounds exactly like the "type" of person I had in mind. Your Dad's "type" is of the kind I wish there were a lot more of in this world.
Extremely creative and intelligent in a very linear yet systems-oriented way. May enjoy fantasy, especially elaborate plots. And yet, not inclined toward believing any superstition or mysticism. He's rational and skeptical in day-to-day affairs (unless one of those moments of extreme "his way" stubbornness occurs). Irritated by silly, bouncy expressions of emotion which seem "out of control," and he's bashful, tender, perhaps childlike about expressing his own emotions. Great technical aptitude, with excellent recall of detailed data. Prone to lecturing. An independent, self-directed, project-oriented workaholic.
How does this fit?
Oh, and can be generous to a fault.
INFj perhaps?

But on an average day, maybe couldn't care less what color the walls are painted in his house. Inclined to ASK for aesthetic advice, if he wants it, than rely solely on his own judgment. Probably not so good with regular details like paying bills on time. He's got bigger projects on his mind - problems to solve, and details to resolve that suit his vision.
IMO.
(EDIT: There are, of course, always exceptions to habits regarding cleanliness. These are not always determined by type after all, IME.)
I will admit that I thought for a moment and said "Delta ST".

From VI alone, my thoughts were LSI and SEI. Sumoea's description leans towards SEI imo, somewhat.
