When I was a little girl, I strongly identified with Ramona the Pest. I haven't reread those books in over 30 years, so am not sure if I still would or not...but I do have a video of me boinging my daughter's blonde super curly hair.

i keep thinking about this thread and it bothers me because i know theres movies&books ive really gotten into because i identified with a character but nothing is coming to mind. i think its because i identify with certain aspects of a character but i wouldnt necessarily say they are similar to me.

the only one i can think of is when i was a kid i identified with matilda because i thought i was smarter than everybody else lol.

    i'm going to keep thinking

characters ive been compared to but don't particularly relate to: pam from the office, monica from friends

    Ashitaka - Princess Mononoke

I can still kind of see why I pulled these characters out, but honestly I don't know of many that really fit my social character. It's just I tend to be quiet and more affable than these people. Eh, I'm sort of Billy Crudup-ish. And I'm not sure how I feel about it. He's sort of a dork.

Yeah, it's the same for me. There's also the situation in which people see a certain archetype in a movie and think "wow, he's so cool, I wanna be like him!", but that isn't necessarily identifying with that character. I mean, if you can already see basic similarities, it certainly motivates you even more to imagine yourself in the role of the hero/antihero/villain.

There must have been characters I could identify with in the past. But I just can't think of one right now...

I never identify with the heroes in most stories. I tend to identify only with soldiers who die doing their duty.

For example, in Star Wars, I identify with the rebel soldiers who appear at 2:20 in this clip. (The firefight starts at 3:08.) They heroicly fought and died for their country / liberty. The official hero of the story is Luke Skywalker. I can only identify with him to the extent that he aspires to represent the rebel soldiers of rebel alliance which are the true heroes of the story.

The exception is Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. They respresent a mystical connection to a moral sense, through the One Ring which they both covet and hold in great trepidation.

I identify with most of the characters in the Arthurian tails, both King Arthur and his Knights, except Lancelot who is too much of a stud for my tastes. Even King Penedragon and King Uther are of interest to me. I also like King David in the Bible.

I love the forelorn quests of knighthood!

Johnathon Levinson from Buffy. Really shady of Joss to kill him though, but he knew he was a good person and killing him would make other people be angry/pissed off. Joss Whedon is a narcissistic demon, an embodiment of The First Evil himself- that's why he can write good/evil issues so well.

I still don't get why he killed Anya... and Tara! Just kill off all the lovers and keep the scoobies pure or something? Hmmm... yes it does seem he is the First Evil... Oh well!

Johnny Fontane from the Godfather Book. I doubt I would react to the situations he's in any differently than he did.

hmm i was thinking of Sayuri from the novel, rather than from the film - not that the two characters are necessarily hugely different from each other, it's just that the novel provides a wealth of information in regards to Sayuri's thoughts, motivations, feelings, perspective, etc. (that i relate to) that the film does not.

the film was ok but i preferred the book it's one of the only books that has made me cry (the other is The Jungle)

I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

lol, same here! i haven't read them in a long time, but when i think back i believe the books are Delta.

just some guesses based on what i remember:

    Matthew: SLI
    Marilla: LSE, ESI? (Serious, Rational)
    Diana: EII
    Gilbert: LSE/SLI?

Now that I thought about it, some characters come to mind, even if I also know some reasons why they're not like me.

Guy Montag (very likely SLI, imho) from Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. I see many similarities between him and myself. And he's not depicted as overly cool like his counterpart in the similar movie Equilibrium (John Preston).

Elliot (ILI?) from Flight of the Phoenix (or Hardy Krüger's character in the old movie). However, he's more of a dick than I am, usually.

Garrett (probably SLI) from the Thief video games. (Okay, that might be just because of the fact that he's pretty cool.) But he's more ruthless and calculating than me, anyway.

So you're my fellow Anne reader . I think these books are universal, my SLE classmate also loved them and I remember I was jealous (why??), I even thought they didn't suit her

Matthew: SLI, Si type for sure
Marilla - she could be also LSI but LSE makes sense
Diana - I think she's a sensor, she looked up to Anne and her imagination. Could be SLI, maybe ESI
Gilbert - must be LSE. He was fun and could joke around from what I remember. SLIs aren't so much this way.

I think I need to come back to these books. The world that is presented there is hmmm so warm that you don't want to leave it. I always regretted when I realized that I've already had read more than half of a book... sigh

lol sorry I didn't respond to dinki's question about why I'm like him...

I'm like Johnathon because of the being bullied a lot (that also destroyed his self-confidence) and his knack for putting other people into his sock puppet theater. (16types adventures) I'm a lot taller than him though, and a bit more stern/confrontational. And I've had sex more than him. He died a virgin in his early 20s I believe?

Also yeah he was the guy that got stabbed by Andrew. His best friend who is so much like Zap to me. And yeah I've always been kinda close friends with the Zaps of the world so it made sense. Joss Whedon is such a know it all narcissist lmao.

Rustin Cohle of True Detecitve- Probably relate more to him than any fictional character I've encountered.

Howard Roark of The Fountainhead- He completely lacks humanity, but it's more his ideals I relate with. Though sticking to them as obstinately as he did is a good way to get eaten alive by the world.
