I've found that too. It seems like they need 5 minutes or so to warm up their engine. The thought crosses your mind that they might be annoyed with you for some reason ... then you light upon a topic they're passionate about and before you know it they're talking your ear off again. They're great - I love them.

Sometimes people can be like that in general. I let em take their time to warm up

Well I talked to her a second time and she was more receptive

So yeah, the warm up thing apparently did work.
Posts I wrote in the past contain less nuance.

I'm usually reserved for the first 2-3 minutes (with people I do not know well) because I'm reading you, the environment and the dynamics of our interaction.

I also have difficulty hopping trains of thought. If I am interrupted mid-stream, resources are maxed so there will be a brain-to-mouth delay. These interruptions can be annoying, so I can seem short with people until I hop (no matter how much I like them).

Yes I agree with everything the others have said. I get lost in my thoughts AND it takes me a minute to rev the engine AND if I don't particularly like the person to start with, I'm going to avoid them and definitely not expend any energy talking to them. Saving that energy for people I want to pursue longer-term friendships with. I have a place I go every week where I see the same people and I almost always just talk to the same person, sometimes two people.

I've heard a good INFP friend of mine say this many, many times.

From my experiences, I think INFPs are just kind of chill and to themselves unless interacted with OR they have a particular reason to interact with you. Then it takes them a moment for them to decide you're genuine, they like you, whatever, and then yup... they'll talk your ear off. I really love INFPs.

Don't take offence to this people, but what I've actually found is that I'm repelled by IEIs. It's their over emotive nature; it really gets to me. You seem incredibly enthusiastic, and very moody in the sense that your moods are extremes. You're not stable enough for me emotionally.
