SLEs/ESTps and eidetic memory

I'd like to relate a query from an SLE friend regarding her SLE socionic type and her unusual memory. She's able to remember every single person that she's met, the circumstances of the first meeting, what they were wearing, saying, etc. Also she can place music and tastes to a particular situation, even if she only encountered the stimuli perhaps once. This leads to statements like "the school chocolate milk tasted like nail polish remover," or drawing a connection between the music style of 'Lacuna Coil' and a scene in X-men III, without being very familiar with either. The most striking aspect of the memory is recall of people or situations. "It drives me crazy when I recognize someone I had met months ago or years ago, but I can't tell them because it would be too creepy that I remember it." "this is Brandon R---, I met him in summer school in this class, and this is [] and I swam with her in this lane during swim practice...." etc. She doesn't remember "pictures" but rather "situations."
I can't really sympathize with that situation, since I am usually oblivious to strangers around me, and forget casual acquaintances easily. This 'trick' memory to me seems almost enviable. I am likely to remember a conversation long after I have utterly lost the face of the person I had that conversation with. This SLEs memory for people and situations is thus incomprehensible to me.
I was wondering if this is related to socionic type where the friend's extraverted sensing leading function would abet her iconic, echoic, and heptic memory. Whereas, as an ILI with weaker sensing, my recall would focus on the 'essence' of the people I meet, and conversations better than people. I would love to hear from SLEs and people who know them as to whether this memory thing is a socionics- linked trait.

it seems that if I learn something in spanish or history, I never forget it, at least for a long time.

But clothes and stuff like that, never. Like that even matters.

I can't really remember dates, but I'm good at remembering clothes and sometimes just random details that aren't necessarily helpful or important. I can look at a shirt and remember events from life that the owner was wearing it at. Or I can at least remember the last time it was worn, which can be kind of creepy to mention.

well, i'm not SLE but i can definitely relate with this. i remember every single face i meet. i may not remember their names and i'm not really good with dates but what you describe in this excerpt fits me to a tee. except that i do remember people not only according to situations and events but also as recorded in pictures in my mind. their even catalogued. i put similar faces in categories in what looks like some huge mental library. i'm not very good with oral memory though. i remember images. in high school, i barely ever studied because all i had to do was listen and watch in class and i'd ace my exams. my fellow students thought i was studying every night. little do they know that i spent most of my time playing video games. nowadays, few of my friends know about my good memory because it's really embarrassing to remember things most people don't. it's looks like you put more importance on things than others. it makes you look sentimental.

As opposed to ESTps, I can't remember the ages of my brothers or sisters or parents... And I often can't remember my own age. I barely know their birthdays. I only know the dates of a select few holidays (e.g. 24.12. is christmas). I barely faces or people's clothing. I always forget the names. But I do remember the general tone of conversations, and the intensity and how much laughter there was. I also remember if conversations were abstract or informational and if I'd like to talk with the persons again. And it's quite odd, but I remember the facial expressions without remembering their face. Like I can talk with a person really long and I will have a very good grasp of their facial movement, but I can not say if they had a pointy nose or if they were blond or brunette ("sorta lightish hair... I think"). I usually can't see the difference between twins because they end up having the same facial expressions even if they do have different clothing styles or hair color.

...almost like Mustachio, only that I have a REALLY crappy memory and I barely remember anything.

Yep, good memories. It seems important to them, like they sort of pride themselves in being able to remember details and get a bit frustrated with themselves when they can't. But it's not usually in terms of impressing people, more like it's important to them, if that makes sense.

My short-term memory is almsot non-existant most of the times, especially when it comes to minor details. My long-term memory is impecable. Ask me details of yesterday, I'll be pretty general about it, ask me about the same day two weeks from now and I will be able to tell you everything in amazing detail. It's kinda crazy, i have extremely vivid memories from when I was really little too. I can recall somethings even my parents dont.

I am however, pretty bad with names, and a lot of the time birthdays and sometimes other important days too.

That would make *me* an SP. I think they actually don't retain a lot of stuff in, that they constantly have to do things of course in order to keep that movement in motion because that's the kinda entire fucking point. I love my SP guys to death but usually I'm the one that remembers those things and they're the ones that remember as they're doing it so to speak, but then it's kinda lost. But...wait. Now I think that sounds like an EJ thing. Totally don't know. It's something we're probably both connected on....I guess.
