I have no such thing as a favorite album.
These are cd's that I can listen to, track by track, with no programming out of crappy tunes:
The Cure - Greatest Hits
My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree
Nirvana - In Utero
Blink 182 - Greatest Hits
Say Anything - Is A Real Boy
Fiona Apple - When the Pawn & Tidal
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Exodus
...for the Emo Kid in YOU!![]()

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Testament - The Gathering
Generally, my ideal music is either something uplifting that contributes positively to my mood/happiness, or something energetic that charges me up with "good" anger.
Obsequium amicos, veritas odium parit
There is only one album to mention here, but this is the best album of all time! Absolutely each song here is the kind I'd seek out from the chaos of my playlist, because they are just worth the effort.

QD was a good book too, but not as good as The Vampire Lestat.

I use the Starfall approach too - I prefer to let whatever pops up on iTunes do it in a random fashion. I am musical and tend to listen to a very broad range of music, I find it impossible to have only a few favourites as my taste ranges from world over rock and pop to classical and opera. Jazz however is not to my taste really for whatever odd reason.

regardless of my beta-ness....my favorite albums have been ones made for me, or that i made.
especially this NOFX one that someone made for me. so much thought went into. it flows so well.

Hehe, The Vampire Armand was always my fave from those books.
As for music, I'm so bad with names of bands and stuff, and I really dislike conversations about music. Albums I like a lot:
Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
Stars - Set yourself on fire
Regina Spektor - Begin to Hope
And uhm... The Beatles on shuffle when I'm lazy
I usually don't like my beta friends music tastes. If I want good song recommendations I'll go to the Alpha NT's![]()

Oo I thought of one.
I suppose there are some Bad Religion/Greg Graffin albums too...but meh about figuring out which ones...

If you're a downloader, download it. If not, listen to it in samples, then buy it. It truly is a masterpiece.
What pisses me off is that the guy, Suba, recorded some material in 1999 with Bebel Gilberto (legend), and when his studio was on fire, he tried rescuing it, and died in the process. And he had a lot of potential. Gilberto's album he produced, Tanto Tempo, is quality too.
That really is worth being up there in at least the top 10. It's not even overrated.Originally Posted by Khamelion

What do you make of the album?Originally Posted by lefty
Everything by Sarah McLachlan (Surfacing and Afterglow in particular)
Sarah Brightman - Greatest Hits (altho Macavity - The Mystery Cat might be the most annoying piece of music I ever listen to)
Linda Ronstadt - For Sentimental Reasons
Blank & Jones - Relax
All albums by Il Divo, Michael Buble and Gregorians (except The Dark Side)
Most of Loreena Mckennitt's ablums
Michael Flatley - Feets of flames (I love the longing I perceive in Whispering Wind)
Mike Oldfield: Songs from a distant earth (that dude reading from the bible in outer space... that was soo cool), Voyager and the last one, Light & Shade (Angelique is in my view one of the best instrumental pieces EVER and the change of rhythm from Tears of an Angel coupled with his guitar... very nice)
Oh... and I also like Shakira's "¿Dónde están los ladrones?"
Queen - Greatest Hits especially Greatest Hits II
Vangelis: 1492 Conquest of Paradise (I must have listened to this album like a gazilion time in highschool)
and.. the classics...
Chopin (his Piano Concert No.1 and a compilation of the nocturnes must have been the most listened to classical pieces in my collection)
Rachmaninov. The bit from Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini used in Somewhere in Time was the very first piece of classical music I ever liked.
Beethoven.... even if it is overused... it is imposible not to like Für Elise
Ok... this is taking longer than I anticipated... so... a partial answer will do for now... the above is only a part of the music I listen to... there are more albums... some by singers from my country some from other international starts...
I see I missed Celine Dion, Amedeo Minghi, Ennio Morricone, Enigma, Moby, Bryan Adams, The Cardigans and Fleetwood Mac and Roxette and a bunch of country music singers like Tim McGraw and Garry Allan and Lonestar... and I've missed mentioning Enya and his sister Moya Brennan (I've listened to her album Two Horizionts so so many times)...

my favorite beta centric album
mezzanine by massive attack - I love this album through and through. When I listen to it I think of drug deals, dark seedy rooms, cold sweats, terrorism, and everything horrible in life. it's amazing. seriously, terrorism.

You call Air 'Air French Band'? Interesting. I call them Air.
Nonetheless, I revel in Air. Have you heard of Zero 7? They're like an English Air who sometimes inject a bit of energy, '70s, and José González into their music. You'd probably like them if you like Air. Also, look into Hooverphonic and Blue States. They're truly magical.
i thought air french band was their proper name?
Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece.
Genesis | Invisible Touch lyrics
It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism.
Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion.
Genesis | Land Of Confusion lyrics
In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority.
In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment.
Genesis | In Too Deep lyrics
The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.
Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds.
But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Phil Collins is alright. I prefer his jazzy side, though.

Thank you for reminding me to see this film; as soon as I saw this thread, I went down to my local Blockbuster and rented it. A brilliant film.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to return some DVDs.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
Whilst our laughter echoed,
Under cerulean skies...
i bet you'll never think of phil collins "sussudio" in the same way ever again.

Thankfully I don't make a habit out of listening to crappy music enough to have a well-defined way of thinking about it
