What are some hobbies INTJ's pursue?

I was just curious about what kind of hobbies INTJs and NT in general pursue.

I am interested in film (classic, foreign, and indie). In fact two of my favorite genres are French gangster movies and German New Cinema. My family and friends are a bit baffled by my interests in such specific fields of film. (I also like Kurosawa films).

I also pursue my interest in Mediumwave (AM) radio. I like to try to pick up stations from thousands of miles away.

Plus I enjoy Mystery Science Theater 3000. (I have met other INTJ who like that show as well.)

I like nice, clean, sparsely populated countryside. I have ridden my whole life and used to spend entire days exploring thousands of acres of private ranches/public lands on horseback - alone. God I miss that. I live in Japan for the moment - much too crowded. My home state of California has waaaaaay too many people/roads/stripmalls in it now, which makes me very sad and angry - a combination of foolish immigration policies (ooooooo, I said it!) and poor city planning. But, there are still some places where you can get away from crowds, noise, bad air quality and general ugliness. I always look forward to going home and taking a trip to one of these havens, even if I have to drive through hell to get there.

I also dabble a bit in programming (with BASH right now), mainly because it does not come naturally to me and so I feel I must master it to some degree, even if it is on a very basic level.

I play a text MUD (an online game for non-geeks) called Achaea which can be mindnumbingly cathartic if I just feel like bashing things, or I can try to figure out how to make triggers and other things to make my character a better fighter against other players. Again... the programming thing is not a natural gift so I have to work at it and ask smarter people lots of questions.

INTp here.

I've been programming since I was twelve. Started in Java then moved up to C++. Then during high school I learned Assembly and BASIC (including Visual). I have been programming a MUD from scratch since I was 14, but it's been an off-and-on thing so it never got finished. I just recently became reinterested in the project, but the university I am at doesn't allow server software on the network (

). So now I am working on a graphics engine in Assembly.

If James has difficulties in programming, then I have difficulties in electronics. I was interested in electronics for a while, but I could never figure out how everything connected together. I'm not sure if it was the book or if it was just me, but it was horribly difficult.

In middle school, I had been interested in some of the fads of the geeks in my youth: MUDs, Pokemon, Digimon, all that stuff. Wasted alot of time and money on that...

I've played my share of video games: RPGs, shoot-em-ups, platforms, etc. Nowadays, I barely even watch TV.

Obviously, I am a Socionics junkie. I've been working in here since March. I plan to start writing in December, when I have time off from school.

Oh, and I am heavily interested in philosophy and low-level mathematics. But I've just started, so I'm not really an expert or anything.

Anyway, that's me.

I love mathematics (used to solve math problems as a hobby). I love puzzles. And this includes different kinds of puzzles: putting together a picture, filling out number puzzles (su doku), solving labyrinths... I also see math problems as puzzles.

I like knitting. Very relaxing, very addictive. When I have started, it's difficult to stop.

Drawing is nice. This might not be an INTj thing, although I have a faint memory that XcaliburGirl also liked to draw. I connect it with my visual thinking. I like to bring my visual thoughts to life, make them visible to others. (Always with pencil and rubber, this way I can make it perfect line by line.)

RPGs. Pencil & paper with rolling the dice and computer RPGs. Also strategy computer games.

I love watching movies. This is also very visual. There aren't many popular movies that I haven't seen. I truly dislike indie films, because they don't even have the funding to make the film visually adequate. (Have you ever wondered why they don't get any sponsors? :wink: ). And I hate the common phrase about original movies, "If you didn't like it, you just didn't understand it." It varies a bit ("you're too mainstream to understand such art") Sorry, joegeo2006, I tend to be too opinionated. Nothing personal. I have seen a couple of good indie/foreign films that I loved. Just that I have seen hundreds of good mainstream films.

My little brother, also INTj, is a true fan of Japanese culture. He's learning the language, has seen all the anime and Japanese films that he can get his hand on... It's almost like an obsession.

Ooooo, this attitude in all of its forms really irks me too. I work with a lot of people who truly are smart, but do they really need to constantly try to prove how bright/sophisticated/better than everyone else they are? The answer seems to be yes...

I know lots and lots of really smart people who feel the same way about indie films as I do. But I do know a few "look at me, I'm so smart"-people who have said that "Hollywood crap" isn't worth watching. They generally are original rather than ingenious.
