    Default ENFps, ENTps, and drugs

    YES, alcohol counts!

I read something recently (yes it was about MBTI types, don't shoot me!) that sid that ENTps with ENFPs, had highest mean level of coping resources. ENTps were also 1 of 2 types most frequent among college alcohol policy violators. Not sure what the other type was...

Anyways.... I think that ENxps and perhaps even xNxps are more likely to do drugs. Any comments?

I've never done drugs. I do drink but not often and not much. I certainly did drink in college (underage) so I could have been caught in a college alcohol violation. Maybe we're just more likely to be at parties where we'd be caught though.

My ISTp husband played around with drugs a decent amount in his youth.

Drugs are a form of authoritarian rebellion, something ENTps are very big into. So I would expect ENTps to be into drugs somehow.

ENFps...well they are on a different rung than ENTps, so I don't know.

I'm usually willing to try drugs for the experience. I suppose it is possible that if I had nothing to worry about and alot of money I might experiment alot, but for the most part I am not "geared" towards them.

I have had bad experiences with paranoia when using marijuana with groups of people so now I would only do that alone if at all. Some brilliant insights come out with marijuana, i have found.

If I use drugs it is for the ideas, that is all.

I dabble but I've never had a need for drugs or alcohol. In fact most nights I don't have anything. I still dance and socialise etc just because I'm like that. At the club I go to people often ask me if I'm on X, even though I'm not on anything at all.

what? what's wrong with doing it for the creativity?! I don't see any other logical reason for it. the fucked up ideas i come up with... man, out of this WORLD!

But yeah, i knew an ISFp that did drugs. people say he'd pop a whole thing of pills in class, plop his head down on desk and was said to utter random incoherent things about homework and stuff. that kid was hysterical. an ass sometimes though.

Ive never had any desire to do drugs. I know that does not sound cool by todays standards but Ive always been keen on keeping my senses and maintaining my health. I think its because like Neonmonk I can have a natural high. It doesnt take much for me to relax. Just turn on some music. A little acohol doesnt hurt but I dont like to overdo it. Why wake up with a headache?
Part of my view has been influence by my upbringing and also the bad example Ive seen. Drugs can really mess up a persons life. Ive seen people strung out on crack, chrystal meth, booze, you name it. Come back 5 years latet and they are still in the same spot. Sometimes people hook up while under the influence and end up with unwanted pregnancies and STDs.
    Not a good coping mechanism.

I think I have to agree Topaz. I knew a few drug dealers (distant relatives ) and I must say that basically, all I saw was the gradual disintegration of their clients over varying time spans. Drug dealers are very shitty people in my opinion and I am not even sure how drug taking could even be considered cool.

Side issue: Did Mariah Carey really say that?

I remember an MBTI chart from a year ago about substance abuse and likelihood with primary functions. Ni and Te were the least likely. Se and Ti were the most likely. Fi, Fe, Ne and Si were scattered in the middle. Although it would be even more interesting to see patterns of primary function with different groups of substance abuse (depressives, stimulants, THC, etc). Even more interesting are the sociological patterns of substance abuse but I'll leave those for you all to discover since they arent directly temperament related.

Hmm. My ISTp drinks steadily and used to do pot quite heavy but can't now because of random drug testing where he works. Is actually living for the day he can smoke again.

After discussing it with Expat who said ENTj doesn't fit a Marine and after getting to know him better. I then read the type descriptions again on this forum and am pretty sure now that he's ISTp. Cone says an introvert of some kind but he doesn't know him much more than that . . . only from things I say about him.

Something to think about . . . from my field.

    Story from BBC NEWS:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/2/h...th/4486548.stm

    Published: 2005/12/01 10:43:44 GMT

    Drug disorder schizophrenia link

Almost half of patients treated for a cannabis related mental disorder go on
to develop a schizophrenic illness, a study has suggested.

The Danish study, in the British Journal of Psychiatry, found a third of
    them developed paranoid schizophrenia.

Cannabis has been linked with the condition, but few studies have looked at
    people with drug-induced symptoms.

The researchers said cannabis users showed signs of schizophrenic illness
earlier than others with the condition.

Researchers looked at the incidence of schizophrenia-spectrum disorders,
including schizophrenia, schizoptypal disorder and schizoaffective disorders.

The team from Aarhus Psychiatric Hospital obtained information on 535
patients treated for cannabis-induced psychotic symptoms from the Danish
Psychiatric Central Register, who were then followed for three years.

They were then compared to 2,721 people treated for schizophrenia-spectrum
disorders who had no history of cannabis-induced illness.

It was found that 44.5% of those with cannabis-induced psychotic symptoms
went on to be diagnosed with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders.

Those who had used the drug also developed schizophrenia at an earlier age
than people in the comparison group, with men showing symptoms at an average
age of 24.6 years, compared with 30.7 years in the comparison group.

For women the difference was 28.9 years compared with 33.1 years.

The researchers, led by Mikkel Arendt, say the study did not show cannabis
caused the development of schizophrenia - because it was not possible to
control for other factors such as hereditary predisposition, other drug use and
    socio-economic status.

But they say the fact patients with cannabis-induced psychotic symptoms
developed schizophrenia at a younger age than non-users suggests that cannabis
use may hasten the progress of the illness.

    'Susceptible'

A second study by researchers at the Zucker Hillside Hospital in New York
looked at the brains of teenagers, comparing some who were heavy cannabis users
with schizophrenic patients and healthy adolescents.

The team used a sophisticated scanning technique called diffusion tensor
imaging (DTI) which measures the motion of water molecules in the brain which
    can indicate microscopic abnormalities.

They found similar abnormalities in an area of the brain linked to high
level linguistic and auditory skill in cannabis users and those with
    schizophrenia.

They focussed on the arculate fasciculus, a bundle of fibres connecting the
Broca's area in the left frontal lobe and the Wernicke's area in the left
    temporal lobe.

The abnormalities were not seen in healthy teenagers.

Dr Mazar Ashtari, of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine led the study,
said: "Because this language/auditory pathway continues to develop during
adolescence, it is most susceptible to the neurotoxins introduced into the body
    through marijuana use."

Dr Sanjiv Kumra, who also worked on the study, added: "These findings
suggest that, in addition to interfering with normal brain development, heavy
marijuana use in adolescents may also lead to an earlier onset of schizophrenia in
individuals who are genetically predisposed to the disorder."

The research was presented to the annual meeting of the Radiological Society
    of North America.

Paul Corry, of the mental health charity Rethink, said: "This research
reinforces our call for a public health information campaign about a drug which
many young people still see as being risk free.

"We hope that the government, before too long, will recognise that need and
take up advice from its advisory committee on the misuse of drugs, which we
    hope will report very soon."

My brother cannot smoke weed anymore becuase last time he had a "psychotic episode" with a hospital stay and everything. Among his delusions, he believed himself to be capable of verbally comunicating with computers, capable of using a computer while it is not on, being the Anti-Christ, being God, and being the Devil.

Weed is certainly not for everyone, but I still believe that it's healthier than alcohol.
