Default Maynard James Keenan (TOOL's singer)

    young

    quotes:

"Tool is not Slayer. I went to art school. I spent three years in the military. There's more to me than throwing devil horns."

"The process that we go through in recording with Tool is very organic, but at the same time it is very thought out. There is a very left-brain process of dissecting what we're doing and drawing from source material; it's very research oriented and esoteric."

"For the music, it’s not about the individual — so the more you let the music speak for yourself, the more powerful the music will be."

"Once you take yourself too seriously the art will suffer."

"The army influences everything I do. Certainly it teaches you discipline, which is a necessary element of development. I think there's more of a collaborative understanding in the band because of that."

"But you know, I'm the negative-Nancy, curmudgeon, glass-half-empty-with-a-leak-in-it guy - which is basically the fuel that fires me up anyway. Without that, we wouldn't have me."

"Every now and then, you get people who tend to forget what this country is about, which is a melting pot of races and cultures and freedom of speech."

"It's the role of us to run our government, the government by the people, for the people, and I don't think our government is listening to the people. It's our role as patriots to question them, because we elected them. And if they're not fairly and accurately representing us, it's the job of the people, the patriots, to take their country back."

"Yeah, because I think it's more important just to inspire people to wake up one day and pick up a book and start feeling it out for themselves."

"I think there’s a reason why wine figures into so many religions. There’s something transcendent about it. It’s sort of the way that music is more than the sum of its parts. You have all these elements that make up the terroir that wine can communicate."

"A circle is the reflection of eternity. It has no beginning and it has no end - and if you put several circles over each other, then you get a spiral."

"I think psychedelics play a major part in what we do, but having said that, I feel that if somebody's going to experiment with those things they really need to educate themselves about them. People just taking the chemicals and diving in without having any kind of preparation about what they're about to experience tend to have no frame of reference, so they're missing everything flying by and all these new perspectives. It's just a waste. They reach a little bit of spiritual enlightenment, but they end up going, 'Well, now I need that drug to get back there again.' The trick is to use the drugs once to get there, and maybe spend the next ten years trying to get back there without the drug."

    I think INTj.
Low energy. Sure views. Gives some response. Not emotionally open. has to be prodded for answers.
What makes me think INTj over INTp is that He is much more sure of thoughts and views, and also more rigid. Ni would be more... uncertain I think the word is. But I'm split between INTp and INTj. Maybe ENTj, but not ENTp.

He's really close to Tori Amos, who I believe is ENFj, so that kinda supports my typing.

I definitely think he's an INTP. But I have a hard time seeing the part where he's full of himself, he certainly does seem confident in his actions, but I'm not so certain that he's full of himself. Care to elaborate?

Maybe cocky would have been the better word. If i were the interviewer and someone treated me the way he treats all interviewers, i'd end it right there.

Back in my Tool obsessed days, i saw nearly every single interview he gave and in every single one he's a complete asshole even to the ones who are just obviously doing their job. Not only in interviews, but the many times i saw APC and Tool live, he couln't even have the decency to put on a good show and allow himself to be seen.

He does seem to like to be a bit of a dick to a lot of interviewers, but I don't think it's always a case of him just being an ass for the sake of being an ass (or maybe it is). I think that the reason he does that is to sort of throw them off and gain a kind of mental advantage on them, as if to say, "I will not fuck around with dumb questions." This doesn't mean that he's a straight-up asshole to everyone who interviews him. There have been times that I have seen him be civil to someone interviewing him, but I don't think he's the kind of individual that's comfortable in a situation involving the press asking him questions. Especially since he's had to deal with the paparazzi and at least one schizophrenic stalker all because he's seen as a somewhat unusual fucker. I can imagine that he probably gets a little sick of people trying to pry into his life, but yet he's still willing to give an interview every once in awhile. It seems to me that he adopts a very reserved persona whenever he's being questioned on camera, and if he doesn't like where the interview is going, he starts to fuck with them. Oh, and I think I read somewhere that the reason that he stays out of sight during shows is so that everybody in the audience isn't focusing on him, the singer, (which in many cases, whether it's true or not, is generally seen as the front man of the band) and are instead focusing on the music as well as those pretty pictures they show on the screens.

I'm going with LII given his guarded nature. His need to perform with his back turned to the audience could possibly be due to PoLR among other reasons.

I had him at LII for a long as hell time. Any Alpha NT works, and yeah, the turning the back to the audience thing, and his specific type of bitchiness brings to mind Steve Albini, who I got pretty solid as Ne-LII; the Die Eier Von Satan thing comes off big time as Alpha humor, and I suspect there's some of that in the whole Disgustipated lyrics I read too, and to a lesser extent stopping a concert to get the audience to look for a lost contact lens, and the "another dead hero" thing for Bill Hicks, and the lyrics to Eulogy, something's off there and I don't know if he likes the guy or not or what's up with all that... I like Danny Carey @ LII too, and the band being so heavily Alpha and Alpha NT makes the Rush comparisons all the more interestng (got them all @ Alpha and 2/3 of them @ Alpha NT)...

from his heavily entwined, continually expanding lyrics I can't see a rational, result type such as LII ... visually he reminds me of a mix of Henry Rollins, Mark Zuckerberg, and Howard Stern

The application of Fibonacci sequence in Lateralus makes me think of Ovcharov's Selector (ILE-Ti) description:

"Critically thinks over old theories and methods and is able to create qualitatively new ones"

Seems kind of similar to the way Einstein (ILE-Ti) took non-Euclidean geometry and found a wholly off the wall application for it. Maynard sees Bill Hicks as striving for something similar as Tool, and I think Hicks is an ILE. Plus, his ridiculous business endeavors: pet shop interior design and winemaking in Arizona. These ideas sound like something a Ne user would cook up.
