It is very telling what ones true type is when in part examining early childhood interests and activities, assuming the childhood was average. We can be our natural selves more easily than many can by the time they are adults depending on the kinds of social conditioning and quality of relationships they have received.

Interested in systematizing. I would make toy dinosaur battle formations, giving ranks to the specific dinosaurs. I loved making lists of things (from best to worst) by ranking subjective qualities of things. I was interested in how things were interconnected, i liked Pokémon especially because of the way different types and moves interacted, and how there were a multitude of creatures inhabiting a parallel world. I also really enjoyed graphs, climate and planetary ones especially. I think it was the comparative method which graphs were introduced with side by side that caught my interest. I was almost always imagining things, which had an effect on both my performance in school and practical things (had trouble with hands-on things, like putting on clothes right, writing etc., was hard to reach, hard to get to do things because i was very busy internally and not responsive to the external world)
I was also a bit of a rebel, i would defy ''authorities'' simply because i hated being told what to do, and i walked around in pink for a while, which was, to many an elementary teacher, a sign of disrespect for established conduct.
I'm considering ILE, LII, ILI and SLI currently.
Playing with Legos, reading voraciously (fiction at that age), swimming. But I find that my type became more manifest at the ages after that, not less. Partly because I simply wasn't aware of all that the world had to offer.
edit: oh yeah, and collecting rocks, and stickers. And playing piano.

I used to love dinosaurs, astronomy, life science. I had an encyclopedic memory for the names of dinosaurs and other things. I also made a dream book where I drew my dreams. I still have it - I have little idea what the drawings mean. I also loved watching movies and playing the NES.
Overall, very imaginative, didn't like sports and had good memory for facts. That sounds :Ni: base right?
Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, playing with action figures and even making dumb videos with them, writing very stupid random picture books with stories that went as I liked, usually changing very abrubtly and not explaining itself well, watching Care Bears, sitting on the playground swings and letting my imagination go wild was my favourite past-time.
At school I would walk around with my best friend who is now some Alpha NT type, talk about Pokémon and random what-if scenarios, play with nature and distract ourselves with imagination.
I know this isn't a hobby but going to Child Psychotherapy was arguably the best part of my week. I always had some form of anger issues and frustration with people who made me uncomfortable, so my Mom threw me in it. Very empathetic and relaxing.
When 0-10 i was often playing video games or playing outside (both with friends)
Bugs, herbivore dinosaurs, cartoons, coloring books, drawing, play doh, mud cakes, videogames, my pillow, dolls, wearing my mom's pumps.
I used to play alone or with one friend at school or one of my older siblings.
Interests were reading, marine biology / conservation (I had an annual pass to the aquarium), astronomy, art and daydreaming.
Believe it or not, I've always been weirdly uptight and argumentative about gender politics :P I grew up with a brother and two male cousins and they would get stuff I didn't (to take their shirts off when it was hot; they got water guns and I didn't; they all had the same TMNT shirt but I wasn't allowed it because it was for boys). I even joined the football (or soccer, if you're American) team because joining a club was mandatory but my school only ran Football Club and Girls Club. I hated the latter, since it was making clothes and learning dance routines to pop songs, so I joined football instead (and hated it but it was the STATEMENT that counted). I also idolised Lara Croft for being athletic and kick ass. All this kicked in mb ages 8-10.

All kinds of weird stuff based on thought structures. Maybe it is the mobilizing speaking... you know... what kinds of freaky things there are where :Fe: reigns. That would make it into more philosophical realm where those things started to get systematized forms.
Anyways, to strengths regarding real life... structural information was easy. Stuff like geography, chemistry and mathematics.
Apparently, I was technically quite good naturally. Was it my actual interest? I doubt it.
I loved beauty & when asked my favorite thing, that is what I wrote.
I drew well and was considered the class artist, whether copying characters, realistic drawing or inventing my own forms.
I loved dance and took many formal lessons. I wanted to go pro. When not in class, I would dance more at home and choreograph homemade music videos with family and orchestrate shows everything from art direction to songs to costumes. I was an early MTV loving kid.
I played video games a lot but usually only with other family members motivated by fun and refining learned skills.
I was an astronomy & cosmology & weather & planetary science buff by 7 and read children's guides on it. I was not particularly known for being good at math and science beyond average or above average though. That didn't come until college.
I checked out my first philosophy book in the adult library at age 10 on metaphysics because I began asking abstract philosophical questions about life at 8.
I was interested in my parents art-craft projects as inspired to fantasize by their beauty - things like stained glass work, painted ceramic holiday decor, cake decorating. But I more took it in.
I didn't care for playing with dolls but considered them worthy of care and affection anyway. I would mostly set up the Barbie houses with creative objects than play because my siblings and I didn't get on well much to my sadness and many wasted efforts. I did play a little Barbie with friends though. I was more into puppeteering and making stuffed animals come to life in zany ways to entertain my family and friends. I still know people who want me to do it, that is how amused they get even when I consider it childish / my early years.
I was curious a lot and daydreamed about ancient civilizations. I wanted to know what daily life was like among people of various times and cultures and why. I loved ethnic dolls and learning about other cultures.
Though I loved dance, I hated gym including gymnastics.
I enjoyed and was very good at creative writing including poetry. I was best at spelling art and creative writing in school, being published there often and even reading my own work to the class once by teacher's request.
I was very shy but extremely affectionate as a child, for which I was sometimes teased. I observed my peers, got on well with elders, and hugged my teacher at the end of school every day until I had male teachers in 5th grade.
I was a fussy eater regarding food quality and so was very slim and ingesting much sugar.
I liked inventing houses for bugs not present or fairies just imagined as play ... with elemental materials like acorns leaves twigs and arranging them into domestic homes.
I started observing houses architecturally at 10 and became interested in drawing floor plans to accommodate a dreamy social life in my mind.
I liked playing with Legos but building my own designs than following instructions though easy enough.
I loved music and followed the pop scene countdown on the radio of current hits every week plus those MTV hits too.
I loved dressing up and designing costumes with available clothes especially homemade costume inventing at Halloween.
I liked looking through catalogs of toys, jewelry, stationery, gifts, clothes, and home furnishings a lot and picking out what I liked just for fun.
I enjoyed doing many of these things with friends.
I read more than most kids in my class but my Mom was good at letting me choose many books.
I would learn common songs by ear on the piano and play with one hand. I didn't teach myself how to play with both or put mental compositions to form until starting in high school. I often asked for music lessons but my parents said no.
I loved how astronomy made me feel small, yet dancing on stage in front of a couple thousand made me feel big.

What I can remember from my childhood... nothing before the age of 3.
Kindergarten and pre-school:
I hated too much physical activity, even a hour of sport activity at school was too much for me. I didn't stand kids who were unable to stand still just for a moment.
Can't remember much from that time. I was that typical quiet, shy kid.
Was interested in technical devices, such as different brands of radio devices and their features. Read some books.
I played with different types of construction toys, like Lego or Fischertechnik.
Besides from that, I was a hudge fan of comic cartoons and Sci-Fi anime; maybe I'm still, but I watch such stuff only rarely nowadays.
That stuff inspired me to create stories of my own... but I hadn't the motivation to write them down.
Oh my, seems like forever ago...I lived on a 'farm', but we only had horses. And we didn't actually farm. There was no one around my age, besides occasionally my cousin who would stay at my grandmas a lot, who lived a cornfield down, literally. So I grew up kind of secluded and had to entertain myself a lot.
I used to dig holes in the ground, trying to find any arrowheads or any artifacts. I was really interested in archaeology and anthropology. I loved museums, and learning about history, culture, and religion. At one point I wanted to work at a zoo when I grew up because I loved animals. We had a lot of cats on our farm and I used to carry them around with me and play with them. We had horses, and I used to show them, but it was more my moms hobby. I took dance lessons (tap, jazz, ballet) but I didn't stick with them. I also took piano lessons but didn't stick with that. And gymnastics. But didn't stick with that either. I played a lot of video games with my dad in the evenings, and with my cousin who often also stayed with my grandma. My dad and I also liked playing board games together like checkers, monopoly, and battleship. All kinds of board games. I also liked watching movies a lot, lots of Disney movies, even the old classic ones like Castaways, Three Lives of Thomasina, and Darby O' Gill and the Little People, or old rerun tv shoes like I Love Lucy, Quantum Leap, Million Dollar Man, The Munsters, I Dream of Jeanie, Mr. Ed, and all of the Disney or Nickelodean ones at that time. Some movies I would watch over and over and drive my whole family insane, and they still talk about it to this day. Beauty and the Beast, The Labyrinth, Legend, and Watcher in the Woods. I also really liked horror movies. I watched a lot of different movies. I loved to read, mainly fantasy, historical fiction, or American Girl books. I would write my own fantasy stories. Mainly involving fairies. I loved going to the library. I played make believe a lot. Most of my make believe was involving fairies and magic. I also had barbies I'd play with, and I was really into collecting bear stuffed animals. I think they were Boyd's. I also collected little bear figurines called Cherished Teddies, and Beanie Babies. I was definitely a collector. I had a fascination with the supernatural, ghosts and cryptozoology. I used to play around with the Ouji board and try to contact the dead :lol: . Was interested in things like Seances and possession. I used to go around asking about everyone's supernatural experiences or ghost stories. I wanted to be a ghost hunter aka supernatural investigator. I was fascinated by my great-Grandmothers stories of growing up and loved listening to old people talk of back in the day. I also had an obsession with Elvis Presley and his songs at one point.
I wasn't a very social child, keeping mostly to my self, never felt like I really fit in, people thought I was really odd, and I was never into sports or building things like legos. I tried drawing but was never very good at it.
Usually get typed Fi base. ESI or EII.
It is funny how some people have such a good memory recall. It refreshed bit of mine.
I also checked what my mother wrote about me: Technical wonder child, sensitive, gentle, stubborn. lol.
Physical exercise was painful at first but I got better at it. :thinking:
I got kicked out of kindergarten because I did not care about structured play. I just wanted to talk and listen about ideas and stories. Then went back to another one. It had something interesting to offer so I graduated from there.
I found some kids at school who were not interested in soccer so I discussed with them lots of things.
I think I also built stuff from construction waste that was in our backyard. Without any instructions.
I read lots of comics. I sucked at drawing.

Lots of drawing. A ton of writing stories and characters and making fantasy worlds and monster designs and stuff (which I'd then draw). Researching all kinds of weird animals, namely bugs, reptiles, and all the weird marine invertebrates. I liked being in water in general and I'd practice swimming a lot.
I loved loved loved the weird gross faceless animals that could spit poison or regenerate. Also cartoons and vidya but I guess that's not super relevant.
I would make my Barbies naked and disheveled and tie them up in haphazard positions together. I would also sort and arrange my many toy cars.
I invented and played out epic quests around the house with my stuffed animals too. Sometimes tea parties.
To this day I can see how my psyche is not entirely different from how it was back then.

at 3, i used to go out at night to walk and look at the stars. stopped when fall arrived. i had insomnia already and it helped me sleep. no, my parents did not know.
i remember laying in the grass to stare at the sky. staring at the stars.
i lived in my head mostly. imagination, trying to understand life and people.
i rarely have had personal interests, my mom wrote so i wanted to try, some kids liked barbies so i played with them, people started drawing so i did too... tried understanding them by joining their activities.
i hated reading as a child... i remember reading ahead a reading homework then reciting it by heart... it did not pass.
i enjoyed watching others play video games, and sometimes my mom would die in a game and not remember how to get to where she was so i told her. she used to call me "little recorder".
vivid imagination, stars, confusion about life and people, epic memory...
i always had a weird interest in people and what happens in their head.

I forgot to mention something.
I created and wrote my first computer programs at ten in BASIC. One was a multiple choice "How Weird Are You?" quiz and the other was a color-number selector program with over 100 named values. That was in 1984.
I rarely played outside due to the discomfort of worst possible seasonal allergies.
I secretly used to privately morph my favorite blanket into characters and play out imagine different racy scenes among lovers.
My ethics were naturally fine enough but I wasn't exposed to religious doctrines that strongly influenced me until middle school. I was atheistic at times and formed my own theory at age 7 that many civilizations invented the concept of God over fear for lack of control over things like natural forces.
I started reading about new age things and the occult occasionally at 10. My Mom used to get a monthly new age paper for inspiration. I started my rock collection with hematite embedded with 2 garnets (like eyes) from Alaska and a Green Aventurine my Grandma gave me that her Priest had given to her.
I preferred school to summers but was usually frustrated with how much education was review we already learned. I hated homework - the drudgery of it. I liked the libraries school and public. I was mostly interested in astronomy books at the public one.
There are a few other things but I won't divulge them here.
- making Barbie and Ken fool around until my cousin ripped Ken's head off. From then on, Franken-Ken (FranKen if you will) wore a scarf and was living his best zombie life. Forced by unfortunate circumstances, both him and Barbie became gay.
- annoyed my parents by singing, dancing & listening to the same cassette 10 times in a row. I think that had lasting damage for everyone. It was mostly Ernie and Bert, everyone's favorite gays (in case you missed it: that was recently revealed by their creator, I'm still happy)
- I wrapped myself into my favorite green blanket and ran through the house like the spooky little Chaeghost I was.
- my grandma had to buy piles of aluminum foil because I liked building stuff from it. Years later I think that also had lasting damage. Aluminum foil is a lowkey biohazard. Just hoping Germany had good regulations back them. #fear
- somehow I could preoccupy myself for hours digging in the sand preaching to everyone around me at kindergarten: "water! we'll find water!". We did find water.
- being a daring motherfucker since birth, I — far away from 5'9 as I am now — once tugged at the fluffy tail of our town's festival rabbit mascot because I was intrigued and confused. I still feel a bit of guilt. Maybe it was just a pet play kink in the making and I never noticed. I am deeply sorry, Mister Bunny. That was inappropriate. My parents still giggle about the story because they thought it was adorable.
- since trick-or-treaters had vandalized our garden and our entire familiy has a grudge since then, I dressed up as a scary pumpkin to trick or treat visitors back but it didn't work, it wasn't scary enough. I'm a soft pumpkin queen I'm afraid.
- with my best friend I spent ages revamping and decorating an old caravan that was in her garden. Until a plague of ladybirds broke out and we had to escape. Our next place to decorate was her attic, then, but there, a giant hornet nest was located. This time we fought back with whatever toxic spray (more permanent damage) until the nest was pretty much done for. But then, the attic became too hot in summer so we begrudginly relocated to the caravan. I know, what a mess.
- being the vegan witch I am, I was always found surrounded by animal plushies in a circle. My parents say that even as a toddler I would rearrange them around me, even during sleep.
- I taught myself the alphabet by writing on a paper what was written on a soda bottle. Lord knows how. My parents think I'm some linguistic genius, I say um I was just too bored and wanted to read books on my own, simple logic. Gotta forgive them, I was the one terrorizing the house with my Ernie and Bert music extracting everyone's brain cells.
- I pretended to be Supergrover saving the world, but failed. Yeah, whatever floats my boat.
- in typical Germanic fashion, I enjoyed eating pretzels.

Anyways here is my favorite Ernie and Bert tune. It starts when Bert feels grumpy and Ernie cheers him up with a song. That makes Ernie grumpy so Bert does the same. At the end, they cheer up the audience and everyone's happy (yay ethics win!).

Interesting. I had the opposite reaction towards me. I was not very keen on 'involving' others in my mental activities, so i was mostly seen as completely torn off from the rest of the world.
I think certain people have a sense of 'giftedness' or something that makes them relate to the standardized problems in a certain off-kilter way that makes them still come out on top grade-wise but also radiate that weirdness that you talk about. Something more common in Ne ego perhaps?
I really relate to the weirdness aspect, but i was more inwardly weird so to speak, i retracted from the outside world and was sustained by very intense fantastical playing. It was very hard to talk to me unless you hit a point of interest, where i would sort of ''spill out''...
Gifted classes are a joke. Or at least all the ones I was in were. They what, take you and a few other kids out of class for 20 minutes for "enrichment activities" which I mean, could be fun, we learned how to write calligraphy in one class, but those 20 minutes are supposed to make up for the fact that they actually don't give a shit that you're not learning anything new, and you're punished for being ahead of the rest of the class the rest of the time. My kindergarten teacher when she found out I could already read fluently and do all the math wanted me to skip a grade or two, and my parents wanted me to skip too, but the school had a policy of no skipping grades, so I was stuck.
It's actually kind of funny some of the things that happened. They gave us some test in class once, in first grade, a nationwide test that was basically an IQ test of sorts, and they had shape rotation questions, so I asked the teacher, whether they just wanted us to turn the shapes in place, or if we could flip them the other direction too. (In other words 2D or 3D rotation) and there was this cluster of teachers gathered around my desk trying to figure out the answer to that question, and they called the principal in too and all conferred, looking at the test and discussing it before they came to a conclusion to answer my question and tell me to only rotate in 2D. Which disappointed me, because 3D would have been slightly more interesting due to more challenge. I desperately wanted challenges, but didn't get any from school and had to create my own.

Most of my childhood was pretty much spent romping and rolling around outside despite having a weak constitution-- it's all I ever wanted to do everyday and I had to often be forced to sit down to eat cuz food was never really on my mind lol
I was a pretty friendly kid, I had both my shy and loud moments. Was never really interested in sports, but enjoyed going on solitary bike rides. I'd often get in trouble for exploring places I shouldn't XD Having an over protective mum only spurred me to be even more rebellious and there was also even a couple of times where I tried running away from home. I was a shite kid tbh... but thank god I was cute at least
I liked reading, drawing, tree climbing, singing, acting, and catching alligator lizards. A regular tomboy, but I also always liked speech and debate. I was annoying to my friends that way.

I don't remember anything before age 5 but from then onward, I was given huge amounts of freedom in a small town surrounded by a 100kms of wilderness and with no TV. Needless to say, there wasn't much going on so I spent my time climbing the cliffs, exploring the forest and out on the harbour. I was totally unsupervised while most of my friends had little freedom so I spent a lot of time on my own and in my own head. I did prefer communicating with adults more than children of my own age.:content:

I don't think what you do as a child tends to say much since children are doing lots of different things. The only things that really seem to matter are if your parents or other relatives were any good, if you still have any friends from then, and if you managed to survive not getting diagnosed with AD(H)D, Asperger's/autism, child bipolar, child schizophrenia, auditory processing disorder, food allergies, glasses, special needs, mental retardation, "gifted," having to skip a grade, having to be held back a grade, getting suspended, or getting expelled. All of those are just people fixing their dislike of you to a law of Nature like Hercules pinning the constellations in the firmament.

Anyways, I argue that mental health sector diagnosis might not reveal actual problems. It can be as simple as eye sight – not refraction issue necessarily.
I forgot to add that as a child I was the one to stand up to bullies for people. I would not let that slide...Not EVER. I was small, but scrappy. I recall these two very popular Nicholes in third grade trying to get me to ditch my little redheaded friend. I said no way, that's mean, and then I hung out with her instead.

ours was very different. we spent 3/4 of a day a week in the gifted room, where we basically had self directed learning. we would choose topics of interest to give a presentation to the rest of the gifted class on and were allowed as long as we felt we needed to research that topic to prepare (weeks, months, etc...). each day started with creating our own personal schedules for the day where we could set time for games, research, computer time (this was the early-mid-80s and the gifted room was the only class with their own dedicated computers for the kids to use) which would be approved by the gifted teacher. the gifted kids had access to all the resources that the teachers had, such as the district library of films etc... which we could order to watch (either by interest or to research our topics for presentation). the gifted teacher acted more as a facilitator than a teacher giving us "work" or "topics", by helping/teaching us how to arrange interviews outside of school for our research, getting equipment for us such as microscopes, projectors, books the school library didn't have, and whatever else interested us from the district, and things like that.Quote:

All I remember from gifted class:
1. Puzzles like this, which were my favorite, I loved them so much, I think they were my favorite thing from school period
2. Playing around with a rorscharch test and feeling inadequate because everybody else had more creative answers and I figured they were reaching instead of just saying what they actually immediately saw (which would be the more "obvious" things I saw) which I thought was like cheating
3. When we went around the room saying how we were doing and i just said "fine" and the teacher was like "you can be honest here" and I starting crying and talking about my mom being an alcoholic and then the boy in the class who had a crush on me stopped liking me and I had to start seeing a counselor lol
@bionicgoat that sounds really comprehensive, I only went in elementary but it was just hanging out in a conference room for like an hour a day doing random shit. And I have no idea how it was supposed to be catered to "gifted" students
I always had a drawing pad with me and read atlases and encyclopedias for fun. I would also wheel, deal, and steal Pokemon cards. I played a lot of videogames and went outside a lot.
My mother refused to send me to the school with the gifted program because she would have had to drive me there or put me on a bus. As a result of her saying no, I ended up shut out of all GT programs for the remainder of school somehow.

I have always been interested in knowing things in context of "what, why and how".
I think sometimes my thinking lacks concreteness to a pathological degree. I have always been like this even as a child. I have discussed about this with a psychologist who had hard time to grasp my development because children are supposed to take world in concrete sense at the beginning. I still interpret concrete words as metaphors occasionally.

I think it's the ancient, inaccessability of it. The further away in time something is, the more interesting it is to me. The 'alien' aspect of it was my connection. I have a bit of the same attribute as you, if i understand it correctly. You say metaphors, i think i tend to reduce something to the most general it could be. I have always worked with 'ground principles' in the way i interpreted the world. I am interested in subjects like metaphysics for the same reason.Quote:

ONe thing I have noticed about my son and I remember myself doing is kind of destroying or treating toys very badly which I think might be related to being C. If I got given a toy I wanted to cut the hair and change the clothes immediately etc so that pretty soon they were ruined. My son is the same but being a sensor more interested in toys than myself. I am terrible at buying children's toys as presents as I have very little interest in them at all, so I end up buying books becasue I trust my taste. As a child I liked climbing trees the best, climbing anything actually and running, handball, writing stories and reading, movies, putting on "shows" either as the performer or organising an event with my cousins, fashion shows, imaginary play, dressing up, I loved dressing up in my mum's clothes or anyones, doing my hair or other people's hair and makeup, music.
I remember I wrote a story at that age called The Runaway Chocolate and the teacher read it out to the class and everyone liked it I guess because they started to write stories like the runaway this or that... but I remember feeling a sense of shame about it because I knew deep down it was just a spin off of The Gingerbread Man and not such an original idea.

I liked sex and romance even from a young age, although in more appropriate levels for my age- obviously there was a tempo to it. Most boys seemed to like shows about fighting and violence and guns, I still liked that (Tho not so much the guns) but liked romance much, much, more. I was obsessed with love and 'in love with love' many times. I wanted Pepe le pew to get the skunk he always wanted, he was like my role model/admirer and I would get super excited when I watched a pepe le pew cartoon- like it was a spiritual experience it was weird. I took everything to heart/very sensitively, even though I was so intelligent and could have been a brain surgeon by now if only I had some Te. Oh well.
so yeah I definitely was a pure IEI pretty much. The 'romantic' type. Also this SLE girl always defended me from bullies, would pounce on them, give them black eyes- and had hair like Fefe Dobson. <3 It wasn't all bad, but yeah I pretty much hated school and Te rules and just kind of wanted to play/make video games all day and 'fall in love.' Now I see myself more objectively though and I don't feel so trapped in myself like I did before. It is more balanced feeling, which is good.
when I was a very young kid like before school and socialization- my mom said I just sit there really well-behaved and it kind of freaked her out lol. Like I just liked to sit there and think in my Ni world at 0-3 months.
I was actually never considered to be a bright kid in elementary school. I was pretty soft and fragile--and a scrawny waif. Also quite credulous. I was that kid that everyone looked at expectantly to pass the multiplication quiz so we could all have a pizza party--as if I were the only one who would stop it from happening. Math has never really been my thing, especially geometry. I didn't really start reading until the end of middle school and into high school. Then, it was mostly fantasy novels set in a medieval-ish world. I've branched out a lot since then, and I'll read a lot of different stuff, both nonfiction and fiction. I eventually got a reputation for being smart but never spoke to anyone because no one really seemed like they were interested. I got picked on for being gay. Especially back then, I had some pretty obvious traits. Now, not so much, but still somewhat. Some people can tell, and others can't. Pretty sure at this point that my parents wanted a rough and tumble Southern country boy as a kid, but it's not what they got.Quote:
