What are your thoughts on what types can enjoy what is going on and be very present?
"In the moment" can mean very different things to people.
For Ni/Se types, it generally refers to a state of intense focus/immersion on something, where the rest of the world is pretty much blank. Total concentration on a single point, idea, emotion or thing. This leads to a very specific and intentional application of force. We find this extremely pleasurable and rewarding to experience.
I have this problem. It's like I can't disconnect my mind... sometimes I wish there was a switch for turning it off. Or maybe it's my body that I forget about. Am I a brain in a jar? Not sure if it's related to the leading function, but I bet is has something to do with Se, and/or specially Si. Dimensionality or strength might be the cause.
Id attribute what youre describing as just being self-conscious or insecure or having anxiety. My idea of in the moment is more of a still mind fully attentive state, which i'd say most resembles Si. In sports it's referred to as fluid state, or being in the zone.
Being "in the zone" depends on many things but if I had to define it I'd actually say it's when you somehow manage to directly link into whatever :Ni: "is" whether or not you have :Ni: as a significant part of your functional block or not. In those moments, somehow, you were almost "outside" of time. The world just... flowed through you. There's a good reason why many people report instances of attaining that state as it being a moment that "froze" for them.
"Time" slowed to a crawl according to their accounts, seconds felt like minutes, minutes felt like hours, through it all they never ran "out of time" yet to any outside observer they were already on a knife's edge in that regard. To an outside observer, the choice was instantaneous. Yet to the actor, it was a carefully considered path chosen upon careful consideration that took at least what (to them) took at least a full minute if not more. Tis a thing that requires more research but, because it isn't particularly political in any way, good luck landing funding for it. Gah!
:Se:, :Fe:.
4,5,6 the worst at it. which is why they integrate to gut types. 4 is self-absorbed and think everything is always about them in some way, negatively (e.g. everyones looking at them and judging them negatively - shame). 5 is obviously the most disconnected from body and caught up in their delusions, feel they are terribly unfit for this world (so does 4 but in another way. 5 doesn't have shame about it and instead try to gain power by getting caught up in delusions and thoughts), 6 always looks to the future and possible risks and what might go wrong so can be hard for them to just focus on the moment.
What even IS a moment? Never got this type of thing humans have with their weird time and material reality etc. #yawn

(my is that sleepy cat cute  )
I think "social unrestraint" would be a better title here then "in the moment" for what was described here. It's possible to be an adrenaline junky who goes skydiving and surfs giant waves, which I would definitely categorize as an "in the moment" type of person, and at the same time be very reserved when out in public with friends.
To answer the topic as described I would say it is mostly an Fe related thing.
I'm treated like an infant every time I show :Se: or :Fe:. Emotions are often more crippling than their absence.
The j-types can have a hard time enjoying life
I always enjoy from the beginning til the end. Haha loser
It depends on the moment and on the type. The type-and-moment-combination determines if the type is gonna be in it.
I'm totally self conscious and hesitant when in public. I can't really just "lose myself" like some people can. I'm often pretty strained and I'm hyper aware of what I do. I guess I sort of lack spontanity, but I like it when I have spontanious people around me. When I'm in a company of free-spirited people, I can become more easy-going myself. I like it when they help me to join the momemt and forget about being self conscious. I guess that's why I have a lot of Ep friends. I also like enneagram types 7s a lot. I sort of envy them, how free they seem to be.
Sorry wrong, thread.
I'm only self conscious like that in new environments.
Ya no offence but its probably because you act fucking annoying in public.
"HellooOOOoo, how ARE you...? Im fine thankyou, what do ypu have on special menuuuuuu.?" Just play it "cool" more often and it should not be a problem.
Its comes of as insincere and frankly: slimy. Can't you just be real in public instead of artificial?
Maybe your EIIs are picking up on the ethics, which if you remember they don't really need, unlike your duals, which do. Could be you are picking up the wrong aspects and trying to socionic help the wrong part of reality vis a vi your Fe. Its called mirage for a reason because up close there is nothing there but sand.
I predict some of their uncomfortableness is coming because of you. Sorry I'm not trying to insult. Not everyone wants to participate.
Its funny, I actually find the ESEs I know to not be in the moment in some ways. Like to much excitement, energy amped up in [uncontrolled] ways (not Ne silliness, oddity, novelty, punny word game, pithy, and on the Si side: table snacks, music, wine, cigarettes, planned consumption) then they shut right down. Im talking the realm of immediate sensate realness - whose talking to who, aggression, short lived struggle, power games, healthy greed...spatial awareness (unlike delta STs who are proficient in spatial awareness) its happening NOW... MOVE it. Sports, unless they were brought up in it.
"I can't enjoy this because [insert narrow focus Si matter here]."
"So I need to change x,y,z.....in order to make myself or other person(s) around me [insert feeling here, usual suspects are happy, entertained, comfotable]
Just cut loose every once in awhile:D
My sister (Who tests as an ESI but she might be an EII) always shushes me in public. I have a naturally really loud speaking voice and sometimes forget about my surroundings.. I wouldn't say she shushes me because she can't be "in the moment," though. I've noticed she does it because she's considerate of the environment we're in (much more than I) and gets afraid I'll offend a stranger with the topics I'm talking about..
One example was this weekend. I was loudly expressing to her about my feelings of my diet and weight fluctuations and she told me to turn my voice down because there was an overweight person near by. (Which I was oblivious to). To me though I got kind of annoyed by it, like.. 'So what?"
Actually you know what, come to think of it I'm not very self conscious at all, but I do have social anxiety. I used to care what other people thought. But I think just about everyone does to some degree. For instance when I give speeches, I memorise it and use props and my hands a lot (yay creative adjustment), otherwise I'll start shaking violently. I hate when all eyes are on me, but at the same time love big audiences.
I'm actually pretty loud and obnoxious! But I shut up if people react negatively. I'm only self conscious in environments where I'm unable to fully be myself for whatever reason.
