Joyce carol Oates
My author threads never get much attention, but this one is pretty popular so hopefully people chime in.
My general inclination is EII, but I'm not very confident about that. IEI is another type I've considered. She intertwines sex, violence, and fear in such a natural and romanticized way.

When people say there is too much violence in my books, what they are saying is there is too much reality in life.
If food is poetry, is not poetry also food?
In love there are two things - bodies and words.
The worst cynicism: a belief in luck.
Boxing is a celebration of the lost religion of masculinity all the more trenchant for its being lost.
The third man in the ring makes boxing possible.
Boxing has become America's tragic theater.
Love commingled with hate is more powerful than love. Or hate.
To be knocked out doesn't mean what it seems. A boxer does not have to get up.
We are linked by blood, and blood is memory without language.
I never change, I simply become more myself.
Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another's skin, another's voice, another's soul.
The best revenge is living well without you.
The worst thing: to give yourself away in exchange for not enough love.
Loneliness is like starvation: you don't realize how hungry you are until you begin to eat.
The strangeness of Time. Not in its passing, which can seem infinite, like a tunnel whose end you can't see, whose beginning you've forgotten, but in the sudden realization that something finite, has passed, and is irretrievable.

There was a conversation in chatbox where a couple people concurred with eii. Somebody mentioned her lingering on details in her books, which was something I also noticed.
