The altered state of mind involved with schizotypy more commonly involves perceiving reality different, in ways similar, but not as heavy as schizophrenia. This is because schizotypy is incapable of perceiving some aspects or reality, but fills in the gaps anyway. E.g. a person with schizotypy might not look straight at another person, but creates an evaluation of their personality, mood or intentions anyway (often resulting in paranoid ideas about the other person).
