Is it type related? F/T?
I like 5 and 6, lol. I don't think it's that related to F vs T. It's just a way to "release."
Whoops! I forgot to allow usernames to be seen...anyway, you can protect your privacy this way
BTW, I chose #3
FWIW, I think extroverts cry more. As the proverb says: "introverts cry inward"
Women cry more: I recall some ESE, EIE and SEE friends crying openly
Their reasons were stupid most of the time: an unexpected departure of some character in a TV series and such
I cry mostly to relieve stress and emotional buildup. Haven't cried in over a month, though...but for a while, I was quite leaky. Once in a while I get tears in my eyes for no reason, like my eyes are just trying to lube themselves because they've gotten too dry, but I wouldn't count that as crying.
Didn't answer the poll...
Once every month or so, but not always from sadness/grief.
Personally: Must. Not. Ever.
I've seen a lot more Fe-valuers cry publicly (both F and T, alike); but maybe Fi-folk do it all the same, saving it up for alone-time.
I am a sometimes-feminist part-time historian who disapproves of the 3rd option.
When I was a kid I cried when I got a large wound. A couple years ago I sometimes cried when nobody was around.
Sometimes.
Where's the "When I'm pushed beyond my limit of coping" option?
I once made an ESE/SEE cry by bringing up their personal relationships in public to support an argument that they weren't intelligent. I didn't think it all that personal, but they did I guess. Kinda mean but w/e, didn't see it coming.
Ye, I think the conditions that push us to the point of tears may be related to socionics functions, but then again maybe not. Either way, I don't think it is necessarily restricted to either T or F.
I'd say it goes like, male T > female T > male F > female F.
I only cry when I'm severely depressed, which doesn't happen more than once every few months or so.
I picked option 6, because it is lulzy.
No, it most certainly is not type related. It's related to the expression of over-bearing pain and loss. I don't see how that such a thing could be type related.
Not everyone needs to be emotionally overwhelmed to cry. And a lot of people don't cry when they grieve.
Crying is normal. Never crying might be considered abnormal. I cry sometimes when emotional things build up too much. Sometimes I can't help but cry and sometimes I sort of let myself cry or bring it on to have an emotional release.
I very rarely cry. I can't think of any times I've actually cried since, like, middle school maybe?
I cry all the time. It's mostly crying out of anger. When I get that upset, it's pretty significant. Rarely do I cry out of sadness. I can't do it around others, though. It's usually saved for alone time in my room.
I cry when I feel totally overwhelmed, whether it be from a negative or a positive source.
I have rarely cried, but when I have, it's felt like a good release.
I cry all the friggin' time. In front of people, alone. I would do it in a boat. I would do it with a goat.
I like to cry in a house. I like to cry in front of a mouse.
I don't want to draw a correlation which might not exist, but it seems to me that Fi types are more likely to cry than Fe types.
Anyway, I think I remember reading somewhere that male and female tear ducts are somewhat different, and that it's easier for women to cry more so than men, but I could have imagined reading that while drunk :)
Anyway, Women cry more than men, and for longer, study finds - Telegraph
it's amazing the studies people do to confirm what everyone knows anyway....but, this is kinda interesting:
Although, if Fi is an 'internal' emotion thing, then maybeQuote:
Women cry when they feel inadequate, when they are confronted by situations that are difficult to resolve or when they remember past events.
Men, meanwhile, tend to cry from empathy or when a relationship fails.
Women cry when they feel inadequate, when they are confronted by situations that are difficult to resolve or when they remember past events.
is the sort of thing they'd be more aware of? Remembering past events, difficult situations to do with relationships or something?
Either way the reasons are typically different.
I read the same thing not too long ago. Unless we were both imagining it while being drunk.
They should make a study to find out if articles about crying are being imagined while intoxicated and whether it is more common in men than women and whether it is more often for people drinking beer or wine and whether the same effects can be seen while being on other drugs.
Not wanting to de-rail the thread, but I was asked yesterday to take part in a study where I have to drink 4 250ml cans of soft drinks per day for 9 weeks, which only works out as a final payment of $120 US. Beer and wine of course would be far more cost effective, even if they didn't pay me.
Actually, I almost cried the other day. I was pretty close. But no actual tears came out, so it doesn't count. I've do the almost-cry fairly often, I suppose.
lol, the almost-cry. i do that all the time, usually because of a movie or something.
the most common reason i cry is because i'm really frustrated. i cry when i'm angry. i cry over super trivial things and i'm stoic during times other people might cry. i don't like crying in public, but it happens. sometimes when i'm alone i goad myself into crying just because it feels good to let some tears out, heh.
Alot of :Fi: demonstrative told me they rarely cry. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
I actually had a major crying episode today. It only happens once every 1-2 months but when it happens I get such a bad headache afterwards that literally makes me nauseous.
What triggers the crying for me most of the time is failure to achieve something of importance to me and falling short of my own standards. Perceived injustice does it too. Example is when I fail to get a job I really want and it goes to someone far less qualified.
I actually posted the incident that triggered the episode here:
I need a hug
I scream to release negative emotions about twice a month. Crying happens maybe once in 6 years. I cried obnoxiously much as a kid, but my personality has changed and fluctuated a lot since those times.
Its an inward battle, I usually fight the urge to cry, but sometimes it overpowers me and it always feels really great oddly enough when I am finished with it. I rarely cry though, maybe once a year at best.
:o
I almost never cry in front of people but it does happen on occasion if I'm feeling overwhelmed. I have sometimes cried in front of my kids for example (but rarely) and a couple of times in front of very good friends. And I'll sometimes go for a long time without crying at all, not even alone. But then other times I'll cry every day for awhile, a little bit, like alone in the shower or something.
Crying just doesn't happen much anymore. I think I did it last about 4 years ago.
Aside from when I was a kid, I've only cried in front of someone else twice. The first time was my Aunt's funeral. I remember it wasn't because I lost her. It was a numb feeling but I could accept that she was gone and that was that. It was hearing her little girls go up and read letters they wrote to her that made me crack.
It's scary to cry, like showing that kind of vulnerability erases any credibility you had or worse, that expressing how you feel when it hurts too bad pushes people away, that they might not even come back.
i cried once when i was young. at school. i wasn't allowed to participate in this competition thing because i might make the school look bad. i wanted to kill the teacher. but i couldn't. it was so unfair. it was actually really dramatic, and lots of people were around.
