Good old Ludwig Wittgenstein, first typed correctly by CuriousSoul (thank you for that.) Considered one of the greatest philosophers of the twentieth century, he contributed to the field of Analytic Philosophy with his two works, the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, which, in his mind, solved all of the problems of modern philosophy, and his Philosophical Investigations, which was partially a reworking of the Tractatus.

He is further mentioned in CuriousSoul's old, old post, "Types and their Pathologies."

Ray Monk, author of Ludwig Wittgenstein, The Duty of Genius, as well as a number of books on the ENTp, Bertrand Russell. I decided that his type was INTp based off of his deep understanding of Wittgenstein's life and work, and also off of good old V.I.

INTPs don't have a voice of the leader, but ENTJs do. Gates is ENTJ because noone speaks so much jibberish at software conventions.

A lot of us lack experience in understanding people so we type them ad-hoc and wrong so it's futile to argue.

Cone, I am not the authority in socionics, so I could indeed be mistaken - do not hesitate to venture with your own type claims. Drake I thought about Bill Gates being an ENTJ, it is possible, but personally I would consider INTP more likely, give me good arguments and I might even change my mind. My argument for typing Bill Gates INTP is here (the second post).

From watching video interviews I'm farily sure Bill Gates is an ISFP. He really doesn't really grok systems architecture very well, but he really knows the people who know tech. That has been the secret to his success. He is most definetely not an ENTJ. In fact the whole culture of Micrsoft has a strong alpha bent, which is one reason why they are so derided by the development community as a whole, whose strongest representitive is the INTP, otherwise known as the nerd.

What I meant ,Cone, was that :Si: type of people are usually aranging their enviroment so in a way that they them selfs and others too could feel comfortably working in it. Which cannot be sayd for Windows, which is very lack of :Si: so I would call the type of Windows ENTj. Built up very rationally it is very ugly from outside and this is a sign of :Si: as the very weak function and though :Si: is weak also in INTps, it is stronger so INTp tries to
make enviroment look aesthetical. But because the type of Windows is ENTj the type of Gates also is ENTj cause the product usually ends up as the same type as the person who made it was.

your reasoning does not take into consideration the purpose of the video. He's making a video to express ideas about human nature for a campus function, and his speech is meant to inspire. He's not giving a technical lecture. But it's nice to see you are searching for ways to discredit other people's socionics functions. What a noble effort and worthwhile activity.

my comment was not intended to discredit hawking or Ne. his behavior to associate a number of developments (here, namely, the communication of ideas and the state of the human race as we know it) is something that, in my observations, is characteristic of Ne. the emphasis on ideas as a catalyst of human growth also is typical Ne.

i have to admit i really appreciate that you've listed claudia black here (and ganin as well.) i have been told by a few forum members that we share a resemblance. i think a couple people think she may be ISTj, as well. it's that whole requirements-for-working-in-a-movie that gives her such a dominating physical appearance.

I'm not sure if socionics.com is such a reputable source for typings. By what means are you identifying these people? I see a trend in facial structure in some of them, however I don't think those common characteristics are the one's that identify INTp's.

I don't see ISTj in Claudia Black. As for "dominating," I personally do not find ISTjs to be as "controlling" and "intimidating" as some have made them out to be on these sites. Could be the nature of my dynamic with them, but in my experience they simply strike me as being tough-MINDED in their knee-jerk skepticism, nothing more.

you find marie curie as INTp (or any NT, really!) that unreasonable? some of the others i'd question, i agree. i was a little skeptical of darryl hannah, honestly, but after checking her website it's easier to see why she'd be part of a Ni/Se quadra, and probably NT.

It would be interesting, though, to see who you might contribute as a potential INTp to this thread - i.e., if you have any suggestions.

Also, maybe I'm wrong here, but I still perceive a lot of dominant Ti in your posts.

Well, what I noticed on the people that Astralsilky typed at the beginning of the thread, excluding Marie Curie, were a long rectangular face, a flat area around the nose, with a clear jaw-line, and a jaw that sticks slightly ahead of the rest of the face. And that was sort of my point- that facial structure really hasn't been defined, only the expression given usually by INTp's. I saw those facial features on the people Astralsilky listed, and with the lack of explanation for the typings, I thought that he or she was heavily basing the typings upon these VI features.

Rick at socionics.us makes a point of checking the perception of a person's personality through VI - preferably through videos rather than pictures - with what is known of the person's biography and personality. Ganin's VI typings seem to rely solely on VI itself, without doing that check.

The eyes, certain facial expressions/motional patterns (at a very fine level), and ultimately, an "energy" I can't ontologically explain the reasons for at this point. I've also drawn my own sketches and conceptual** grids (which I keep refining) that I sometimes use to verify types through, so I have multiple, stable reference points to fall back on. But again, these are still under development.

I haven't watched much TV in a long time, so I have no idea how popular the show ever got --> how likely a reader would recognize the name --> hence, the expression. I never even heard of Becker until maybe a month ago ... what I'm saying is, I didn't mean to imply anything derogatory with my original statement.

she's definitely intuitive(and probably introverted intuitive), but perhaps she is INFj. She plays a lot of stereotypeical T women roles from the two movies i've watched with her in the cast.

Yes, finding famous INTp's could be difficult, especially females. Because there probably aren't that many.

Probably many other famous poker players are INTp's also (Chris Ferguson, John Juanda) , and some might be INTj's (Allen Cunningham, Huck Seed).

Yeah, Juanda is hard to type, he is only obviously introverted and thinker, and imo VI's more INTp than anything else.

My guess is that Ivey uses more :Ni: and Ferguson mostly :Te: because of his background, he might also be :Te: subtype. I think players will use style that suits them best, wich depends on their type. Rather than using what would be the theoretical optimal. But how much their style is based on their 1st and 2nd function probably depends on the invidual. And of course the game or sport sets limitations on what can be used and what have to be used.

Anyway my estimations were based more on their overall personality rather than their style of play. Especially Phil Ivey seems unusually obvious INTp.

Heh well after seeing him for only few minutes my :Ni: told that he is INTp, nothing more trusty than that :)

But if observed more closely. His behaviour and expressions are almost a caricature of INTp, when he plays and is interviewed. Like hanging jaw, body posture, movements, how his head is tilted downwards etc. Plus the information what other players have said of him, and information about his personal life.

Anyway VI is the only way to go. Because trying to type people who the person trying type doesn't even know, just based on random information about the person is often somewhat ridicilous. Especially since lot of people doesn't seem even type themselves right.

I could be wrong. Since none of us know him, we can't be sure about his personality. There isn't much information about his personality, especially since he seems to lie a lot about himself (wich implies more INTp than ENTj). But I'm under impression that he's more introverted in his private life, than what he appears to be in his work. In his movie Private Parts, if I remember correctly he seems more like an INTp in the part that tells about his early life. What his radio personality is like, could easily be result of INTp having to extrovert himself, bunch of PoLR jokes.

Anyway he looks most like an INTp. In lot of pictures of him, he doesn't seem to smile. I find it very unusual for extroverts to look grumpy in red carpet type of settings.

But I could be wrong, and he could be ENTj.
