lol, you could probably make a socionics test with these questions.
edit: make that definitely
sensing leading person (except last sentence)Quote:
Self indulgent, playful, enjoys all things that bring immediate pleasure and avoids those that involve much effort, work, planning, or unpleasantness. Lives to consume the good life and takes many different kinds of risks in part because he or she does not fully consider the realities of negative consequences and at the same time seeks stimulation and excitement. Is vulnerable to addictions of all sorts, regardless of knowledge of potential negative consequences. These people focus more on process and intrinsic motivation, rarely on products and extrinsically- motivated task performance. They are vulnerable to being caught up in social taps where short- term gains capture attention more than long- term negative consequences of imprudent actions. They do more poorly in academics (or when forced to function in future- oriented environments) than do the future people. However, where process and focus on immediate details is important, presents may do well, notably on some types of creative tasks, or activities with immediate feedback, such as video games. They can also enjoy play, sports, hobbies, high energy activities, intimacy, sexuality, parties, and may be more intense as friends. On the other hand, they are more emotional, volatile, easily upset, likely to violate convention and behave in anti-social ways, be delinquent, criminal, and aggressive.
:Ni: ego, biased towards Gamma NTQuote:
This person’s decisions tend to be based less on concrete, empirical aspects of the current behavioral setting and relatively more on his or her anticipated, abstract imaginings of future consequences of alternative courses of action. The focus is on if-then reasoning, probabilistic thinking, logical analysis, reasoning backward from imagined goal states to start points as well as forward tracking from starts to finishes. There is a clear concern for the consequences of one’s actions, attention to responsibility, liability, optimizing outcomes. This person accepts delays of immediate gratification to achieve longer-term better goals. She or he is also willing to invest effort and resources in current activities that only have a distant payoff, and to endure unpleasant current situations that have the potential for positive future outcomes. They are willing to save for a rainy day, accept that a stitch in time may save unnecessary work later. They are goal-oriented and may be either very competitive or cooperative depending on which strategy is situationally appropriate. They do not take physical risks, and tend to be health conscious, engaging in a variety of health enhancing behaviors some of which involve effort, time, money, and little immediate gain — but prevent long-term negative consequences (flossing teeth, taking vitamins, eating health foods, getting health and dental checkups, etc.). They are good at problem solving and abstract reasoning tasks, get higher grades, fewer incompletes or extensions required in courses. They are able to avoid temptations and distractions that are perceived as short-term inducements or time wasting, such as play and other consummatory activities, when there is work to be done or tasks to be accomplished. Much of their behavior is primarily an instrumental means to goal attainment. On the down side, the future-oriented person is unable to enjoy present, transient, consumable activities and experiences. Often they are labeled as wasting time. They may have more difficulty than other time types with intimate relationships since they thrive on control and predictability, which ought to be absent or shared in intimate encounters. Also their micro level of planning means that they do not allow natural acts, such as sexual arousal, to occur without concern for controlling it, anticipating consequences, and being apprehensive about being evaluated for sexual performance. One of their main goals is increasing efficiency, getting more done in less time. To this end they will buy a host of time saving appliances and engage in time management activities. Their form of negative mental health should revolve around high levels of anxiety, manic behavior, workaholism, and failures to achieve their ideal state. If their goals, when attained, are not substantial, it is likely they will feel as if they have worked hard and become successful at something that really wasn’t worth it, thus leaving them with a sense of existential meaningless of their life’s worth — in other words, being set up for mid-life crises.
This is an interesting inventory, so I'd be curious to see additional research on it beyond the measurement construction. They are starting to get at it by correlating it with addictive and risk-taking behavior, but there are probably more basic human traits, circumstances, and experiences associated with the factors. For instance, your current financial status could have an impact on your scores. Additionally, they only speculate that a negative, abusive childhood is associated with the past-negative factor, but that seems obvious to me. I think that they could control for such intervening variables. Also, I think it's evolutionary to have a more past-negative outlook, anyway, because that's how we learn, "Okay, don't touch the hot stove because you get burned." All in all, interesting, but lacking, I think.

Quackery detected. They have the balls to draw "Ideal perspective", and then the the last category of "Transcendental-future" is totally about religious and superstitious concepts.
Let's see what I come up with now - give me a "minute."
I find some of those 'questions' damn funny though, for example first one "Only my physical body will ever die" and tenth one "I believe in spirits."
EDIT: Took two of them apparently...

Funneh test is funneh.
I don't need to take a 60 question test to know what I am. Transcendal-futuristic, past-positive, and present-hedonistic, in that order.
Edit: also there is no future orientation without a past one.

Here's a test that measures the way people perceive time. I'm curious to see if there's any trend between type and results (though I expect not, it seems more tied to something more experiential).
Here's mine:
Time Perspective
Past-negative: 3.40
Past-positive: 3.00
Present-fatalistic: 1.56
Present-hedonistic: 3.47
Future: 2.85
--Retake on 14/3/2015--
Past-negative: 3.10
Past-positive: 2.89
Present-fatalistic: 2.22
Present-hedonistic: 3.60
Future: 3.38
Past-negative: 3.70
Past-positive: 3.44
Present-fatalistic: 2.44
Present-hedonistic: 2.53
Future: 3.69
There's been two past threads on this in this subforum. Might as well merge all of em. Before that tho, how about adding poll options, Narc? That way when the merge is complete it'll get the poll too. Add poll options with a range for each category, such as "Future: from 3.00 to 3.49" "Future: from 3.50 to 3.99" etc etc.
Past-negative: 1.90
Past-positive: 2.11
Present-fatalistic: 2.22
Present-hedonistic: 4.20
Future: 1.92
Strange test.

Too few people have taken it, but so far you could correlate Ni with Future (maybe also Past negative ..?) and Se with Present-hedonistic.
There will be a trend, but it will also be affected by culture, upbringing, prevalent social constructs, occupation, life disposition, significant relationships and other factors that are not only too complex for us lay-people to rule out in a simple poll, but may also have the potential to affect an individual's time perspective to a larger degree than one's type. But this is true for almost anything that we try to find a type-trend for.
More specifically, the time perspectives are not actually equally distributed in terms of "preferability". Clearly Zimbardo, and by extension anyone who follows his argument and accepts his definitions, believes that Future-orientation is the most preferable for any person to adopt. And with good reason too. So eventually, any and every person, regardless of type, should and will developed a healthy Future-orientation, assuming they are willing and able to grow as persons.
I posit that perhaps, whether or not there is a trend is not an important question. Rather, how can each type specifically develop their own version of Future-orientation? Knowing the best that we can become always serves to inspire us.

While there are a few regrets for things I've done that get my blood up, I find strange to score so high in past-negative, especially since I don't recount many other bad experiences. It's perhaps because of my habit to answer "neutral" for "unapplicable" (or false dilemmas).
Time Perspective
Past-negative:*3.80

Finally took this again. I wanted to wait long enough to see how it changed. I have been able to reframe my past into something more positive (learning experiences) since the last time I took it. I answered more questions "neutral" this time too, because I really felt neutral about them.

I didn't score what Philip Zimbardo would like me to score on much anything. Hallelujah! Especially that last one...

(Also, with the high scores on "past positive", "present-hedonistic", and "transcendental future" for the general population, it's no wonder no one does anything...)
