I sometimes feel an urge to make something physical. The problem is I don’t know WHAT to make, if that makes sense. I consider myself somewhat inventive or creative in some ways. I can create and tell stories, for instance. But when it comes to anything physical I simply don’t know what to do. I don’t have an idea of what I’d like to make; if I experiment what I produce is fairly crap — not just technically; it’s conceptually uninspired and boring — and though I can recognize it’s bad I don’t know what to do better. I’m sure I could go to classes or watch youtube videos and improve technically, but that still doesn’t solve the problem that I don’t really know what I SHOULD make. I feel vaguely that I’m missing something, and I’d like to be more of a well-rounded person, but I’m just not sure how to go about it.

As for appreciating art, what you said is interesting. Thanks. Basically it’s a matter of putting yourself inside a piece, or the author’s frame of mind? I think I can do that.

I notice your profile lists you as interested in art. I’d say I’m interested in it too, but I really don’t know much about it at all. What kind of art interests you? Do you make any yourself? What would you say to someone like myself, who’d like to learn more about art and how to appreciate it?
