I'm checking out Mouse on the Keys right now. That one song I'm listening to right now "Saigo no bansan" (lol, it means "the last supper") - the drum part at the beginning kind of reminds me of "Apocalypse in 9/8" in the Genesis song "Supper's ready", only slightly faster , very progressive style, but also kind of jazzy. But, yeah, I have to say, the drummer is a genius. Yes, sometimes it also sounds a little bit like School Food Punishment, but that SFP is synth rock, so they make more use of weird electronic sounds. You should listen to SFP's song "Flow" - that's my favorite. The lyrics of that one are so beautiful, a translation of the chorus: Your voice overflows through this parched room, As though searching for water, I’m calling for you, Waiting for a favorable wind, I sharpen my ears, As though searching for water, I’m calling for you. I just love Japanese songs and the Japanese language, it's easier to express emotions with it, because they have a larger pool of vocabulary that describes feelings, some of these words can't even be really translated like e.g. "setsunai". Some mixture of melancholic and heartbreaking. Blood Stain Child... is... well, I'm not that much of a death metal fan, well, growling and screaming. xD But some songs sound really good, e.g. "Stargazer". Kyary Pamyu Pamyu... omg... that's the essence of Japanese kawaii-ness. xD I feel embarrassed when I look at that. Do you know Capsule? They make similar music like that, only the singer's voice doesn't sound that much like a 8-year-old's. Haha. xD Check out the song "Love or Lies", it was the main theme for the "Liar Game" movie, a J-Dorama which I really enjoyed a lot. Nakata Yasukawa who is part of Capsule also made the whole Liar Game soundtrack. Awesome. I feel like I have to watch that series again now.
Same here, any one of the animes I watched weren't because they were anime but because they were genuinely good shows, hah. I was very very choosey about manga especially, I only read a few, and they were mostly trippy Silent Hill-esque mangas, so I already had a previous interest as the premise for those mangas, otherwise I really don't have patience or interest to just sit there and read manga. We're on the same page with anime selection too, it's gotta be interesting asides of it being a generic anime. I don't like the whole otaku consumer thing where anything that's so kawaii :3 is instantly gobbled up, it's weird to me. Check out any of those bands btw?
I haven't seen those anime shows. I'm kind of choosey when it comes to manga and anime. First thing I see is the way it is drawn. If I don't like the style, I'm usually not looking further into it. Second thing is the story. If that is also interesting I'm going to watch it. I think, in this whole mass of anime there are only just a few shows that are really good. Most of it is only otaku-appealing stuff full of moe-characters. O_o Nothing for me.
Alrighty sooo checked out the aforementioned bands, School Food Punishment is great, very relaxing with a sentimentality to it I guess? Kinda reminds me of a more chill version of Mouse on the Keys with a singer, from what I've heard thus far. Kagrra is absolutely beautiful, especially Utakata. Really is a shame about the lead singer. Amazarashi is excellent too, love both the instrumentals and the music videos they have, like the one with that hanging cloth puppet that started with three eyes, then they were tentacles (which is spiffy) and then wires then gears falling out of its face lol, definitely enthralling. I'll look into the lyrics at some point. Yoko Kanno is kind of blowing my mind right now, maybe my favorite of all your suggestions at this point. Got me sold on checking out some of those animes you mentioned haha. Learning the music on guitar would be rad Ever since the whole anime convo, I've dredged up more animes I've watched, turns out I watched quite a few and somehow forgot that until recently haha, ever heard of Kurozuka? Easily one of my favs. And Gurren Lagaan, I felt like they rushed the show towards the end but it was still awesome.
I've heard of Perfume, but not really of the others. I totally forgot to mention Yoko Kanno, a great composer, responsible for many good anime soundtracks. She made the music for one of my favorite animes Earth Girl Arjuna. And of course Joe Hisaishi, composer of the music for most of the Ghibli movies. My Japanese friend bought the sheet music for me, so I can practice the songs now on my guitar.
I haven't heard of any of those bands, but I trust your taste in music, so I'll absolutely get around to it I'm a tad hesitant about getting into a band who's lead singer just died though, cuz I know I'll end up loving the band and then I too will have to lament the loss :c I won't be able to understand the German translations, but I can bug you about the lyrics if needed right? Here's my list of Japanese bands that I totally dig; Mouse on the Keys, they're two pianists and a drummer, and it's literally some of the best music I've ever heard in my life. Blood Stain Child is just crazy, the two singer scheme they got goin on is awesome (a male screamer/female singer). As you can tell, I'm a huge Akira Yamaoka fan (Silent Hill music producer), he's done a lot of different stuff so I'd suggest checking him out some more. And, umm, the next two are more like...confessions rather than suggestions...ever heard of Kyary Pamy Pamyu? Yeah...I kind of love her music :| And the group Perfume, they're great. Kyary's all over the damn place, and Perfume's more elegant and, I dunno, refined? Something like that. Okay rant over I'll let you know what I think of the bands you suggested soon enough
Yes, there is some Japanese music which I really like, e.g. School Food Punishment, Kagrra (unfortunately the lead singer died not too long ago), Rin'... But my most favorite band at the moment is Amazarashi. If you don't know them, you have to listen to some of their songs. The lyrics are so touching. There are videos on YT with German translations, that's why I know. "Natsu wo matteshimatta", "Hikari, saiko", "Bakudan wo tsukurikatta" or "Nagarunagaru" are all good examples.
I hear yah, Phaeleh can drone on a bit sometimes. Tides starts out really well with Journey though, it's far from boring imo. But in general, it's probably the most emotionally stirring album he's put out, I think you'd like it. As for getting shivers, A Different Time always gets me. From what I could gather, you're probably into Japanese music right? If so, got any favs?
Yes, I have. When I have time I'm listening to more of Phaeleh's music. All that I've heard till now is really good, though some songs are a little bit monotonous - if you know what I mean - and others are just awesome and send beautiful shivers down my spine. I'm searching for those kind of songs.
Yeah, well, the boundaries of our interests have been pretty much seamless thus far, so it only made sense yah know? And thanks for accepting my friend request Didja see my comment in the beta music thread about MrSuicideSheep/Phaeleh btw?
