He could be a 1w9, but I sincerely doubt 8w9 - and I doubt a 1 would let a brother who cavorts with hyenas get away with it, an imperfect blot on his kingdom. First of all, Mufasa is largely unaware that Scar is in cohorts with the Hyenas. He only really comes to understand that Scar is more than just a butt-hurt power-seeker right before he's killed. Even if he did know that beforehand, any type would have probably booted Scar out of the kingdom. He's not E1 anyways, so this is a moot argument. Se has everything to do with RESPECTING power, authority, and especially hierarchy - acquiring it is more frequently a desire of Se types than others, but many Se types simply accept their lower places on the social totem pole, entirely consistent with Se. 8s do not respect the power of others over them, hence why it could conceivably be the type of an Se-PoLR. Yeah, still not type related.
You seem to have missed Simba's attitude and behavior as a kid. Sure, he's a spoiled brat. He's just a kid, kids are supposed to be rambunctious and annoying. But he makes it a consistent feature of his life to annoy Zazu. Everybody annoyed Zazu, so why single Simba out? And Nala's response to Simba's idea to explore the elephant graveyard seemed to indicate that he's always running off doing idiotic things, as did Zazu's whole response to their little adventure. The audience has no reason to believe that they've ever gone to the elephant graveyard before. In fact Simba was never familiar with the place until Mufasa told him how dangerous it was. Even so, there's no reason to say that Deltas can't run off and do stupid things, especially when they're kids. He's very fun-loving, doesn't seem to care about close interpersonal connections so much as an environment where he can say and do whatever he want. Uh, do you not remember Mufasa's death? His emotional attachment to his father is what drives much of the movie. If all he cared about was living in a do-as-you-wish environment why would he ever leave Timon and Pumbaa's domain? Even so, are Deltas not allowed to have fun and enjoy life the same way everybody else does? He does come to respect Mufasa after years of denying his goddamn existence, but it was Rafiki and Nala who brought him to that revelation. wtf, do you not remember any of the first half? He respected Mufasa more than anybody else in the monarchy: much of the reason he went to the elephant graveyard was because he "just wanted to be brave like you [dad]." Then even after that debacle ends it's painfully apparent how well the two get along and respect each other. He's a very calm, gentle figure, who tends to guide people more than actively lead them. His calmness and gentless could be attributed to integration to 2, but otherwise his entire demeanor on the whole is much more expansive and hypermasculine than a 2 would be. He's absurdly patient with a brother who very clearly at least is envious of his throne. 8s can be diplomatic too. Domination can equally be a kind and caring thing. However, Mufasa does not appear to be an assertive character the way an Enneagram 8 (even a healthy one) would be. You don't know many E8s do you
"He isn't at all giving in the same way E2 is, and he doesn't depend on other people's opinions of himself to gain meaning, which is something E2s habitually do. His presence is far too present, expansive, and gregarious to be anything other than 8w9." He could be a 1w9, but I sincerely doubt 8w9 - and I doubt a 1 would let a brother who cavorts with hyenas get away with it, an imperfect blot on his kingdom. I think 2w1 - his main goal in life seems to be nurturing and caring for his family and kingdom. "On a further note, Se has nothing to do with domination or acquisition of power. That's a really banal stereotype that is not at all type-related." Se has everything to do with RESPECTING power, authority, and especially hierarchy - acquiring it is more frequently a desire of Se types than others, but many Se types simply accept their lower places on the social totem pole, entirely consistent with Se. 8s do not respect the power of others over them, hence why it could conceivably be the type of an Se-PoLR.
"The hell, Simba's life was laid-back as shit. The entire kingdom was in complete harmony, he's the son of royalty so I'm sure he had everything he wanted provided, and he's surrounded by people he loves and cares about. I don't see how getting in trouble once constitutes an "average day". That was the first time they ever went to the elephant graveyard, and they only did it because Simba was led on by Scar." You seem to have missed Simba's attitude and behavior as a kid. Sure, he's a spoiled brat. But he makes it a consistent feature of his life to annoy Zazu. And Nala's response to Simba's idea to explore the elephant graveyard seemed to indicate that he's always running off doing idiotic things, as did Zazu's whole response to their little adventure. He also didn't need much convincing at all to go to the graveyard... he just heard Scar mention it and thought "HOLY SHIT this is gonna be fun!" Which is sort of the reason why Scar used it to set his trap in the first place. "And how is Simba at all Fe? You have yet to provide evidence or analysis as to why he is other than that the story is loosely based on Hamlet." He's very fun-loving, doesn't seem to care about close interpersonal connections so much as an environment where he can say and do whatever he want. "Nala and Rafiki don't even constitute as mentors for Simba. That honor only belongs to Mufasa, a character he visibly looks up to with great admiration." He does come to respect Mufasa after years of denying his goddamn existence, but it was Rafiki and Nala who brought him to that revelation. "Only the miserably unhealthy E8s are obsessed with domination. If nothing else it's more about being in control of one's dominion and instinctively taking up roles of leadership, both of which Mufasa has great control and knowledge of." He's a very calm, gentle figure, who tends to guide people more than actively lead them. He's absurdly patient with a brother who very clearly at least is envious of his throne. Domination does not equate with sociopathic power-mad nature, which is what an unhealthy 8 has. Domination can equally be a kind and caring thing. However, Mufasa does not appear to be an assertive character the way an Enneagram 8 (even a healthy one) would be.

You also have really weird views about Enneagram. Only the miserably unhealthy E8s are obsessed with domination. If nothing else it's more about being in control of one's dominion and instinctively taking up roles of leadership, both of which Mufasa has great control and knowledge of. Simba is ridiculously Fe (I was wrong before; like Hamlet, Simba is indeed EIE-Fe). His life is very non-laid back prior to thinking he got his father killed (an average day for him consisted of goading Nala into exploring the unknown for lulz). Then he falls into his superego under deep stress to just ignore everything and everyone. Bear in mind that he's initially doubtful about the Alpha Timon and Pumbaa's (ILE-ESE activity pair) Hakuna Matata philosophy. Also, Simba as EIE fits intertype relations to the T - Nala and Rafiki as guiding mentors fits perfectly, and both are obvious IEIs: Nala IEI-Fe, Rafiki IEI-Ni. Mufasa is not an 8w9; he doesn't care about domination at all. He's a 2w1. A better example of an Enneagram-8 in the Lion King is Scar (EIE-Ni, 8w7 sp/sx). Besides, there's no reason an EII couldn't be 8w9, given that as Se-PoLR they hate being dominated. The Enneagram-8's core motivation is to not be anyone's bitch.
Dude, The Lion King is by far the most Delta movie ever made. No exaggerations. Sure the plot is loosely modeled after Hamlet, but that doesn't mean every character has to follow the exactly same personalities as the originals. Simba is definitely irrational, has far too much energy to be anything other than extroverted, no evidence of Se/Ni valuing, easily welcomes the laid-back Si lifestyle of Timon and Pumbaa, and he easily fits the Jungian descriptions of Fi, specifically about finding "inner intensities" in things. Mufasa is a clear-cut ESTj from what I can tell. Very Delta in nature, he has the gregarious nature I'd expect out of a healthy Ej, and he's super E8w9, an enneatype I see as impossible for an INFj to have. He's the epitome of the Delta father figure, a character that Simba admires greatly.
You're not Simba's identical dude, sorry. Simba was modeled after Hamlet (the Western EIE exemplar), and is himself IEI-Fe. His dad's closer though... EII-Ne.
