Thread: Hello I still don't know my type

  1. #1

Default Hello. I still don't know my type.

... and, especially after being away from here (and the mind virus that is socionics, lol) I'm not sure I'm totally sold on socionics being a valid system; it seems to me that people rarely (never?) fit neatly into one type and stay there. (But before people start shouting, "Ti PoLR! Ti PoLR! Rah rah!" let me make a confession: in a way, I wish they did! Life would be a fair bit easier, imo.)

Nevertheless, somewhat counter-intuitively given the above, I'm curious what people here might type me as.

    Some information about me:

I am a decided introvert according to the conventional use of that word. I can (because I have learned how to) talk with strangers and people I meet at work, etc., but I much prefer not to most of the time. I also regularly turn down social invitations. Example: tonight is yet another I've opted to stay in alone, rather than go out w friends. I can tell this bothers some people, but eh.

I suppose I could be described as adventurous. Example: in 2011 I quit my job to live and teach abroad. I first went to Costa Rica (where I knew no one beforehand), and now I am in Chile (where I also knew no one beforehand). I just got plane tickets and came, and both adventures have worked out and been well worth it (though I am starting to miss my family and close friends -- but above all, my sweet dog -- at home, so I'll be heading back at the end of this year).

I am creative, and have always had that as a descriptive word about me since I was a kid. Example: I am an artist, and I've done a bit of creative writing as well.

I don't like talking at great length about myself. Example: me stopping, right now.

If you have questions, please ask.

If you have type suggestions, toss 'em out at me... with reasons, por favor.

I concur. Inconsistency can be quite unsettling. The most consistent fact I have observed is that people are complex, self-serving and essentially rotten.

Since you've settled for introverted type, do you think your type is more likely to be rational or irrational? (IP or IJ?)
If you take this test what results do you get?
What made you pick that screen name and avatar and do they hold any significance for you?

Hello. "It's as valid a system as you make it" sounds cryptic to me... almost new-agey.

I honestly don't know about the rational or irrational. Probably Ip.

I took the test late last night and got ILI-0, which might work. The description sounds very like me.

I picked this screen name originally because I had just finished a book about Sappho when I found this forum, and it was one of the first things that came to mind. Also, I like the way it sounds.

The avatar is a picture I think is beautiful, and also somewhat representative of where I feel I am in my life right now.

I'm alright, I'm working a lot so I can save up to move out to Chicago at the end of September. I love my job but it is just a means to an end. In a weird way I want to say I could be better but I honestly have no idea how lol

This actually should be pasted on top of 16typesinfo as a logo or something so when one logs in, one sees it.

Sorry, missed this the first time.

It's not hard at all, as it turns out. You just go on a tourist visa (check your destination country to make sure that's possible), which is good in many countries for 90 days. In that time, find a job and then apply for a longer-term Visa (the type you get will depend on your contract as well as your preferences; mine, for example, is subject-to-contract w the company I work for). This was easy for me as I speak English and was a teacher in the States, so I just found a job teaching it as a foreign language. But you don't have to be a teacher or have training to do the same thing; most people don't, in fact.

In the beginning, when I was figuring things out, it helped to remember that things like this are designed so that even the most stupid person can figure out how to do them. So even though it can be a hassle, it's not hard, really.

    Where would you go, jennifer?

    What's wrong with IEE?

ILI is a longshot, and probably what I would consider on the bottom as far as types for you go. IEE>SEE (SEE is a stretch as well)

Well, I've known many people who fit into one type and stay there; myself, Eliza, Simon, some of the SLI here; um...quite a few people. It just takes a little examination of yourself from within you and without, as in getting other people's opinions/input.

I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

My point was that its "validity" would depend on your subjective interpretation and use of the system. In other words, I don't think it's something you can measure or prove objectively.

I would interpret this in one of two ways using Socionics:

    1) Low energy levels. You acknowledge the value of socializing, but it tires you quickly and you need time to rest, reflect, and recharge. You're an introvert.

    2) You disvalue Fe. You want to pursue your interests, work on personal projects, prefer one-on-one and smaller group interactions, maintain and strengthen the relationships with people you already know/like/etc. You have more constructive and more fulfilling things to do than extended socializing.

I guess when people just move straight out to LA or NY to be in the entertainment industry it makes them seem entitled and are perceived to have poor work ethic. Plus it really will be a nice place to sorta get my feet wet and practice for a while, and there are a few casino's out there so if I'm lucky I can get a job dealing at one of them. I'm told once you know how to deal it's really easy to move around the country and that the entire profession is one of the most mobile around, but I guess I'll find out if that's true in about a month or so.

Right, but I don't like that -- the reason I said it sounds new-agey is because that stuff, too, is often said to be "as [useful/valid/whatever] as you make it," which I have a problem with. I don't want a subjective system that only works if I believe in it; I want an observable, quantifiable system that works no matter what. Like physics.

(I'm not saying socionics isn't, especially as I can see shadows of it working and also some people around here whose opinions I respect vouch for it... it may well be that I just need to keep learning.)

Nice. That makes a lot of sense, imo, about getting your feet wet and working in Chicago -- also for appearances, which surely matter in the entertainment industry more than in many others.

I like the dealer idea, too... who knows, you may even get an idea out of your experience and write your own movie one day.

I agree ILI is a longshot; I always score differently on tests, it seems.

As for IEE -- first of all, I am just so *not* an extrovert in the common sense, that it's hard to believe I would be in any system. I mean, really, you have no idea. My roommates (this is the first time since I was 18 that I've had roommates, which is weird bc it's the first time I've seen, by comparison, what an introvert I really am) thought I was depressed or just weird until I talked about it with them and assured them that I am neither suididal nor schizoid; I just like to be alone.

Beyond that, I have a fair few reasons. I'm nearly positive I'm in an Fi quadra., but I'm unsure of Si- vs. Ni-valuing.

Both of those things ring true, especially the second (bc, lol, I'm not even sure I *do* acknowledge the value of socializing, at least for its own sake.)

Hello again Song. For what it's worth, I wouldn't take tests all that seriously. I've never consistently (or hardly ever) tested SLI on any of them...I get every type under the sun, even EIE lolz. But didn't you self type SLI once? What's wrong with that typing? If you identify with ILI, it's worth a second thought.

Well, maybe. It's hard for me to write plot stuff. I think I will give it a go soon, more likely for theatre than for movies. I don't really understand how movies work so well. I do understand that they are formulaic and in that sense uncomplicated to assemble but I have yet to sit down and actually look at the structure. That's not true. The structure is the same for any dramatic piece I think. More I have yet to sit down and figure out how things like 'rising action' differ from their theatrical counterparts. I'm sure they do differ, most likely in length for starters. Theatre is very drawn out in a way. I suppose I know too many people who are very into film to think I could just dive in without knowing what they do. It is an interesting medium though. One interesting thing I've learned from working in a casino so far though is that it's possible to track the ball in roulette. One of the people I work with plays this game where he has people pick numbers and then he makes the ball land there. He's not allowed to actually deal roulette though, once you get too good at your job they promote you. He's very important in the casino these days lol
