The utility of academic scholarship

I'm beginning to question it.

Now I don't question the studies and experiment reports -- those obviously ought to be placed under the highest scrutiny possible.

But scholarship has in many ways exceeded the boundaries of justification. Indeed, the more I understand the system, the more I perceive that it is a means of punishing those who do not submit to established academic interests.

On Google Knol, you can vote for articles. I do see peer review as an important part of checking popularity contests. But I must ask myself what purpose the various Jungian journals, in particular, actually have.

hmm well, honestly I guess maybe public support for them should be abolished. That money could go towards funding scientific research that may not be in the corporate interest (such as cures for disease apart from treatments). After all, anything that can't be funded with Kickstarter probably isn't worth creating.

I actually meant shit like art criticism and sociology, I'm generally ok with creative arts, even if it involves urine on Jesus.

The conservatives didn't really resist funding for the arts until the feces on Jesus exposition. There was no point in that. It just created damaging controversy.

Roe v Wade is explained, in my view, as a matter of sensitivity to the terror of unwanted pregnancy. Third trimester abortions next to never happen. Consciousness doesn't begin at conception, either; in fact, it's not even present at birth.
