Red face Delta's Plant and Flower Recommendations

Suggest nice plants + flowers for pots or the garden here. Add a short description about maintenance if you like.

    My rec:

Dracaena compacta, dragon tree as a pot plant. Very good vibes.

Such a loyal and beautiful friend. Also very forgiving toward my weak caregiving Just keeps growing and growing, needs fertilizer twice a month or so. Very sturdy leaves but flexible trunk. Water multiple times a week. For indoors, keep out of direct sunlight.

Available in adult-tol and baby-smol versions (look how cute it is):

I recommend Aloe Vera, it's for all seasons and, types(!). You can also use it medicinally on sunburns etc.

I was going to recommend aloe vera, but she beat me to it.

I could recommend tomatoes. It's wonderful being able to pull tomatoes right off the vine and eat them like the berries they are.

My SLI mom likes milkthistle for its medicinal properties (make tea from the seeds). I could ask her for recommendations.
I could also ask my LSE friend who's an expert on roses.

Do you mind linking us or is it too private? Maybe you could pull some cool examples out of it.

Lavender - also for kitchen purposes. Can easily be placed outdoors, keeps you supplied for a whole summer.

This will really help as it's hard to suggest the proper garden plants for
people when we don't know their location. Using the link above you
can type in your location and it will give you tons of info! All in one
convenient place! Loved when I thought to look for this online some time ago.
Everything interests me but nothing holds me.

    Plants I started this Spring:

Hollyhocks from seed. Really tall old-school flowers. Perennial but re-seed themselves well. Full soon, moist rich well-draining soil and don't need much maintenance.

Sage from seed (so sloooow!). Nice medicinal plant (the tea is useful) and really hardy.
Rosemary - supermarket bought and hardened outside. I use this all the time for cooking.
    Basil - another cooking staple.

Chili plants for the kitchen - really nice to have on hand and colourful.

Using honeysuckle to climb boring fence. These smell amazing on summer evenings (some varieties more pungent than others!). If you treat them right they will grow and grow.

    Pretty summer flowering bulbs:
    Freesias (really easy!)

    Dahlias (trickier but fancy)

    Gladioli (some more old-school pretty)

    Liliums

I'm so jealous of people in warmer climates who can grow exotic things all year round!

    Default Pretty herb spirals.

Very useful for watering because it's all in one spot, quick fix when picking spice for a meal.

Takes some effort to build when you want it to be elevated from the ground though.

this post justified 4 attempt at finding back my login/password for 16types

As creep/strange/nerd it can appear I was fond of growing thistles in the past, then now it's more regular and society compliant, I have some cactus. The stuff that I like is that I manage to find my seeds/cuttings direct from nature, I'm not really about buying seeds and stuff I find that you miss 90% of the fun

Damn Ive 0 herb/nature vocabulary these 2 lines took me minutes to write with translator and stuff, Ive no time but next time I come Ill try to share some picture of what Ive had if I find them back !

That's not my pictures, Ill upload them after when I find them back

basically one time I was super happy to get these one :

You can find them in the south of France, perhaps only even a bit under Paris, to Marseille and the like

I have perhaps a photo of mine (this one is from the web) I need to find it back

The last time I got cactus ("figuier de barbarie" in french, same, you find them on the miditerranean border) I managed to have a flower wich is almost impossible on my climate (north/north east France). Never been able to replicate the stuff.

Here is a picture still from the web, I probably have mine on fb I'll share it next time.
In south of france, you find mainly 3 variety of this kind of cactus. This picture is one variety, small pike close to each other, Ive one BIG cactus plant of this variety wich never gave flower. This one correspond often to the "cultivated" variety from what Ive seen in south, probably due to his delicacy in term of look compared to other.
Ive one of the two other variety and this is from this other variety I got flower, this is the most common variety that you find in nature as in gardens. Flower are basically the same as the first variety I was writing about so I didn't took time to find the exact variety in term of picture compared to what Ive had in garden.
The last variety is more white it term of color (or more green/dark blue with white reflect), and is far bigger (racquet and generall size). From XP Fruit of this last variety are the better to eat even if they have almost small rock like seeds into them but strangely at fruit shop they sell only fruit from the second variety.

Yes so Its the first variety I was speaking about, the two first I was speaking about has the same flower :

Found some photo back on fb account, especially the two I was speaking about on the previous spoiler. On my garden it's less impressive than some random google photo

Here is the cactus flower I managed to get (was 2 or 3 years ago). That's from the second variety I was speaking about in my previous post, the one you find the most often if not everywhere.

Problem with thistles is that when you cultivate them in pot, root can't take as much place as in nature so plant aren't as big as in nature, that's quite annoying cuz generally thistles take their beauty from size, especially nicer one. Here I managed to find the biggest pot I had, so size is okay. In nature these one can attain human size.
    This variety of
    thistles is used in medecine

These two are kinda special case as that's two species I took from south france then cultivated in north east. Ive no photo of other stuff Ive cultivated, but it was often different variety of thistles or stuff found in nature that I found interesting at the moment

take a look on this one :

A photo I took on south of france. Sadly it's literrally impossible to cultivate where I'm. That's the well know Passion flower.

In my area you have these one that I find nice but I never tried to actually cultivate them in garden. Perhaps next summer.

"mélampyre des champs". Traduction in english is unknow to me.

bonus from my photo stash (if I remember correctly it was from south of france too) - spoiler is because it's not really about flower, just nature honey for eyes, don't fear that's not a poor joke like porn image or stuff like that - :

"Ecaille chine". Dunno the word equivalent in english. Speaking about the butterfly. I don't remember the name of the shrub he is onto.

I'm aware that flowers/insect are my biggest dorky stuff, and proud about it.

edit : I'm not sure I haven't already posted at least one of these photo here, I often brag about these one lol (not in term of skills or I'm a photograph or idk what ive already music for that lol, just because I like them very much)

IMG_1920.JPG Fushias; I only recently discovered their name. As a child there were loads growing in my neighbourhood but I only knew them as 'Thumbelinas' because when they were closed up I imagined that tiny fairies were sleeping inside and when they bloomed open, the petals were the skirts of the fairies that they had left behind while they flew around playing in the wind and sunshine. You can get fushias in so many colour schemes and their fragrance is sooooo beautiful; sweetly refreshing.

IMG_1921.JPGAt the moment I'm really into Lavender. I use the scent in my baths and as perfume during the day since it helps keep me calm. Combined with camomile too, or vanilla, it's absolutely sleep inducing magic. I do think the scent does help alleviate my mental anxiety.

Violets and roses...they're my favourite perfume smells. So delicate and floral. Just pure loveliness. IMG_1922.JPG
I think pink roses are my favourite rose smell and appearance; dark pink means gratitude and appreciation, and light pink signifies sympathy, admiration. Both shades have gentle graceful vibes. All roses and their colours have personal messages to share which I think it so poetic and just romantic. IMG_1923.JPG

And lastly; daisies. They're so so evocative of childhood playfulness in Summer. Their beauty lies in their simplicity and commonplaceness. IMG_1925.JPG
