The Arab regimes are using the opportunity created by the U.S.'s preoccupation with Libya to crush dissent at home. 48 were massacred today in Yemen. The longer this goes on, the more likely Obama is to overplay his hand.

The way I see it, protestors are relying on Obama for support. This is why they are unafraid of the ruling regimes -- they think the U.S. will offer them military backing if they defeat the local forces in a majority of cities. The protests are a joint operation between opposition groups and the U.S. (not the case in Libya or Tunisia, of course, but these protests we see now have the CIA behind them).
Trouble for the U.S. starts at home, in neo-isolationist pockets. The longer and more extensively we get involved in foreign struggles, the more distracted Obama will be and the more enraged.
Before year's end, I expect protests at the White House comparable to what we saw in Egypt, if Obama continues on this road.
This looks like a repeat of the pattern we saw in the U.S. of people rebelling against Obama. Last year, it was the Tea Party after he lent his support to the Dems. This year, Obama is lending his support to pro-democratic opposition movements. It's another case of this dominant subtype with limited values and limited respect for others' opinions trying to muscle his views down others peoples' throats.
This is funny now. The regime has scrapped its guerrilla warfare strategy, which earned it a no-fly zone, and is instead taking on the rebels in a straight up gentlemen's duel 50 miles away from Sirt, Gadhafi's birthplace. Sirt itself is impregnable, held not by tanks or armor, but by the heart: Gadhafi's tribe is standing by him, and most of the city is serving in the militia. It's unknown whether they serve willingly or out of fear -- probably varies by the individual -- but it's a draft, after all. The East tried to enter and was driven out by machine gun fire from all directions. Reports that the city is filled to the brim with Gadhafi loyalists.
In my view, this whole affair smacks of Delta vs Beta. Obama the delta insisting on Si, Gadhafi the beta marginalizing it. Obama the delta marginalizing Fe, Gadhafi the beta exalting it. I'm hearing that self-same arrogance that was hinted at in administration emails to supporters last year, saying we were "obligated" to vote for Democratic candidates. Now it's coming down as a command by the administration to Gadhafi loyalists to submit before America's might and accept the rebellion as their new rulers. It's blatant disregard for local tradition that smacks of the colonial era and it appears to be legitimizing Gadhafi's self-styled role as the scion of Libyan independence.
That means the US needs to start bombing TV and radio transmitters.

I forgot they could just jam the TV and radio transmission towers instead. You are right: Bombing would have gone beyond the mandate given by the UN and killed innocent people. The goal through is to get rid of the mass media so US/UN forces can more effectively demoralize the militia. See Psychological Operations.
This militia is going to be a problem. US/UN can't bomb them. US/UN/Rebels can't just charge into the city. It's going to be tricky.

OK Gadhafi totally sucks at obtaining any sort of international sympathy (the African Union has indicted him for war crimes, I'm hearing) so World War III this ain't. What it does seem to be is a limited uprising by Benghazi. I say limited in that the people there are more interested in fighting regime troops in their own city than in other cities -- the rebel cavalry appears to consist of little more than a thousand or so fighters with machine guns and a few rockets and RPGs... it's so bad that if the rebels took on al Qaeda in Iraq, al Qaeda would win by a big margin.
It reminds of an episode of Sonic the Hedgehog, with every major advance by the rebellion centering around sabotage made possible only by Sonic's (Obama's) extraordinary speed (airforce) -- the rest are nothing more than ineffectual hangers-on who are bait for Robotnik's (Gadhafi's) steel troopers (mercs).

the real WW3 scenario is unfolding in Aghanistan, or rather, Pakistan. when the taliban's ethnic group spills over to Pakistan from being hunted out of Afghanistan, a civil war will break out in Pakistan. This is part of the US government's plan. the aims are to disturb the flow of oil from the south of Iran to China, India and Russia. it is part of a covert war against the SCO countries.
And if they disturb the flow of oil... inflation and...
This is a new grand strategic bent this... "change via impoverishment".
