    Default Hello, I'm a newbie!

Hey there! Just wanted to know if anyone could point me to some good beginner resources on the subject, especially sub-types and whatnot.

I recently became interested in socionics (last couple days) when a friend of mine recommended it to me for dating purposes I'm not sure if it works for that purpose, but it still seemed like an interesting topic to pursue. I took the Myers-Briggs test various times and was always interested in sociology, so any suggested reading would be appreciated!

Would it be better to tell my socionics type here or is there a better place to discuss these things? The 'what type am I' seemed logical but everyone seems to want to read pictures... and I'm not sure if I'm comfortable posting pictures of myself right away

Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Hi...

So, just look at your self externally, objectively and get some help from friends and family about what they perceive your weak points are, then pick the function you DO.

I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

    Hi, welcome to the16types.

I think Rick has some of the best beginners material to socionics.

    http://www.socionics.us/

The article section of this site is also a resource for learning socionics.

    There is also a Wiki.

Thanks everyone for the useful input, will get around to reviewing it when time allows

Where do you think a good place to start on these forums would be?

Where ever you want really. Most people start out by making type threads and talking about themselves a bit. However, some people just sort of lurk for years, some make threads about celebrities types they want to know about and don't much care to discuss their own. You could start a thread and ask questions that confuse you about socionics.

The choice is yours my friend.
