i hear ya. i don't necessarily want to live in the show either. too much conflict. but that's how they write sitcoms.
it's carrie's strength of conviction of what she wants and goes after it directly without bullshit that is like me. she just doesn't take any shit from anyone.
and my hubby and my relationship is more open and not full of arguments the way theirs is. with my hubby being a bit "softer" and more giving than doug.
I just hate the fact that Kevin James' character is so spineless.

yes, i agree. but that is what is endearing about him. she has the spine and that's why they work together.
i'm the one with the spine and since my husband doesn't naturally have one, that's what he appreciates in me. it must seem weird to another man to see that the woman in another relationship is the one with more balls than the man. but, that's just how we are...and it works for us and we're happy together.
I love this show. I love Carrie. She strikes me as an SJ of some sort..obviously.
It's a bit like Everybody Loves Raymond but i find Carrie much more tolerable than Debra. I can't stand her. I dont know how anyone could be married to someone like that.

I have never watched much of Everybody Loves Raymond but whenever I did see a little bit of it, Debra always seemed to hold the "I won't have sex with you" card over him.

Yeah. I don't think women as bossy, bitchy and annoying as Debra really exist in real life. If they did, they wouldn't be married....they'd die alone and bitter or married to a doormat. I know it's just a show but I don't understand why or how a couple like Ray and Debra could exist. It makes me fear marriage because if i ever end up treating my significant other like that and hating my life that much, well, that wouldn't be fun. But I don't find Carrie annoying at all. Sorry to derail the thread..

I love this show! But I do find Carrie annoying/irritating and Doug as too spineless.
remember, they write this shit to add drama and conflict so it makes it more "interesting" to watch. irl they would be too much of those things for me too.
i still identify with her overall attitude, kick butt, take no prisoners on what she believes in right, she doesn't back down......and her "logical" way of handling things make perfect sense to me.
the only difference is that she doesn't like kids and i have always adored and been very comfortable with kids.

I understand these things are exaggerated and I guess that's what makes it entertaining. I can also understand which aspects of her personality you identify with and that's cool.
By the way, my favorite episode is the one when he tries to remember the song he wrote to his ex-girlfriend Margie and the episode ends with a video of the song. Hahaha....so funny.
