    Default Se and witty

What makes Se leading people witty?

What is it in Se that is responsible for this?

    Are people witty?

I thought it was more closely linked to knowing how to get responses and being able to see things from multiple angles all at once.

In my opinion, types are anything but witty. Perhaps ESTps subtypes are somewhat witty, but that's all. I'd say "angry" is the word that defines types.

    Witty types: EN**

...and there is a difference between being witty and trying to make people laugh without success.

Your bias is showing. Why don't you return to some MBTI forum from which you most likely came.

I've seen the word witty been used in socionics descriptions, also, ESTP-Se types usually portray some kind of stand up comedian when they are at a party, as do ESFP-Se types.

Sure, ENTP's are extremely clever. But Se types are definitely witty. Maybe it's just how you define witty.

I'll try to define witty: "Witty --> a person with the ability to make people laugh without insulting others in the way or being mean, but by saying intelligent and funny things".

I used to think this SLE I know was all business. Then I was invited to have cocktails with two other couples including him. I heard him tell THE funniest story EVER and my opinion of him was completely changed (this was a couple years ago). He can be extremely funny and witty but you'd never know it unless you were with him in the right context.

I'd say ESTps and ESFps are "lively", energetic, easygoing, but not very "witty".

Some ISTjs can be somewhat witty...from time to time

Most ISFjs are serious, but smiling and kind. The problem with them: they either hate you or love you...and they usually switch their minds(or hearts?) promptly. They follow their guts, they are too passionate.

I don't know that they switch promptly. But I do know that I LIKE ISFjs, I just feel uneasy around them sometimes if I don't know for sure that I'm on their good side. I dated one and I had one as a best friend for years. And they were both GREAT. But if I don't know them very well, I can feel intimidated.

I know two ISTjs who are very funny and witty. I dunno if being witty is type related.

IMO In short, beta STs are somewhat "witty", and gamma SFs are not very "witty".

We're just quick off the mark - we can see things - we're perceptive, I s'pose.

Anyway, I'm not that witty. Maybe more so than your average guy/girl, although to be honest, a lot of people don't pick up a fair bit of my humour because it's SO subtle. Or they're just dumb, and they don't get satire when I use it.

I've noticed that there are times when no one else will get my SLE friend's joke but me. I think he appreciates it when I laugh. But yeah, it's said in a really low key way and it's subtle so it passes a lot of other people by.

Id say they are witty in certain ways, maybe its not something that defines them, by no means. But for instance ISTj's I know are quick on their feet to reply with a funny remark in a conversation. Its not subtle but it is still funny. They usually don't get most of my jokes and think I am serious until they get used to me talking crap most of the time.

I see wit as related to combos of /. The ability to intuitively and effortlessly connect wordplay with humour. / can further temper this facility with tactfulness. (Or perhaps make it even more precisely cutting).

    Perhaps it's a Se/Ti subtype difference.

@ the Alpha NT cluster-fuck on page one: You're not witty. Your humor style is kind of obvious and annoying, like you're waiting for me to say, "har har" and slap my knee. Just stop.

@ the original topic: The people I tend to find most witty are usually introverts, for some reason. "Witty" sort of humor works best with people who don't really say much. It's quick, unexpected, and it leaves most people in a "wait, what?" sort of state. I see this style in Calenwen and Subterranean, more than anyone. There's probably more, but they were the first two to come to mind—in regards to who I find witty around here.

Some ISTjs can be somewhat witty...from time to time

Most ISFjs are serious, but smiling and kind. The problem with them: they either hate you or love you...and they usually switch their minds(or hearts?) promptly. They follow their guts, they are too passionate.
Passionate? When it comes to what - liking and disliking people? No. I am neutral towards 90% of people and I very rarely hate or love people, usually I just find them slightly annoying/aggravating or perhaps a bit more interesting than the average person. It's really not that extreme for me at all.

Allie, I would say that I kind of rather loved you sometimes, but that would be too Fe-like of me, so, you know.

Anyway, I have been told that I am quick with the comebacks. I hate jokes that are obvious and the only sort of response possible after hearing them is to laugh lamely. I prefer subtle sarcasm with the opportunity for a good comeback or two.

    Yeah, that's valid.
