The government should have nothing to do with marriage.
It's ridiculous that it was even up for a vote. You can never put minority rights up for a vote. The common masses are always wrong about pretty much everything. They would stupidly vote for all sorts of bad things.I think it's ridiculous that something like this even passed in California.
It goes beyond governments and systems, really. It's psychologically teaching people that it's okay to beat up ******s. It's telling straight boys in school that it's okay to kick the shit out of somebody and hate them because they are a little different and/or 'faggy.' It's teaching hatred, that if you don't go along with what everybody else does - even when they're wrong, that you will be punished.
Marriage and common-law status bring with them certain benefits that involve the state and have more to do than simply spending money and having a pretty relationship title.
