Hello, this is just an IEI greeting you all! I'm new to this socionics stuff, but have been lurking the forums for a while and have found this interesting even though I'm much more familiar with MBTI, but since discovering more about socionics I've come to the realization there might actually be something there. Looking forward to learning more!

When I discovered socionics, I would have liked to have someone telling me and warning me more explicitly about the potential pitfalls when coming from an MBTI background and learning this theory. Would have spared me a lot of painful confusions...
Not that I didn't read hints about these differences everywhere, but I don't know, maybe I assumed I was smarter and that with just a few conversions and adjustments both systems were essentially the same and could be accommodated etc...
Now it's clear they both look alike from the surface and even from a light examination, but I think most experts here will agree one must be very very cautious.
In fact, it's often easier to tell someone to totally forget what they know about MBTI and learn socionics as if it was entirely new. But that's only the short answer, because differences are not easy to explain to other people.
