Default Hatred for watching movies: Gamma introvert?

Until recently, I always thought I was basically alone in that I hate watching movies and most TV shows. When I watch them, I either start tuning them out and wishing they'd just end, or I criticize them heavily. I went to see Star Wars, the first movie I've gone to see in a theater in a very long time, and the same held true for me. It was just trite garbage with Mary Sue characters and action scenes that seemed predictable and boring. I can get into the concept of a movie, such as a mystical Force and an epic battle between light and dark, but I don't actually enjoy the movies that much. That goes for any movie.

I recently googled on hating movies, and was surprised that it seems to be mostly women who chimed in on how they don't enjoy watching movies. A lot of them seemed ESI-ish in how they described their lives. Some would say things such as they enjoy just being alone without the noise and would rather teach their children how to bake a cake than sit through a movie, etc. It made me wonder if Gamma might be prone toward not enjoying movies.

its true for me but i used to enjoy movies more so I've found it more reasonable to attribute it to losing my attention span because I'm on the internet so much. I also don't really mind watching movies with other people. but I can't do it by myself.

"attribute it to losing my attention span because I'm on the internet so much"

Last three movies I went to see at the theatre were good, but I kept wanting to leave. If I could play on my phone in the theatre or smoke in there, I'd probably have more of a desire to go see movies. Next time I get the urge to leave, I probably will stop going except for major releases like Avengers or Batman versus superman. Internet, movies at home you can pause, junk like that... Makes going to the movies feel like being chained up lol.

Movies at home, I am usually drinking before and during, so I settle down and can watch them lol. That's really only like once a week, though. Other than that, I don't really do TV in general. Really isn't that stimulating this half of the decade.

I like movies. woot. Especially science-fiction, pyschological thrillers, and documentaries. I watch one via netflix once a week more or less on a day off.

I do not watch tv shows when alone though-- I'm usually too busy to or would rather just listen to music and/or read...or watch a movie.

I dislike movies, they're predictable and stupid. Most series too.
I have a ILI like sceptisism to them and suck all joy out of them for others too by offhandly commenting the predicted plot 5 minutes into the movie.
also if people ask me what I thought of the movie I'll usually give my opinion, and it's gonna be harsh.....

star wars was essentially the third time they told the same story... it was extreme garbage.

edit: my attention span is superb. I can concentrate for hours. That's not what makes me hate movies. (just pitching in since it seems to focus on the media has made us shallow and short attention spanned discussion more then the stupidity of movies).

I love watching movies. But I also have an abnormally long attention span and patience. We were always behind the technology curve growing up, so I think the idea of attention span being affected by easy to access stimuli might be true.

Oddly enough, I am averse to carrying my phone around because of just that. I don't like indulging that urge to do something else for an immediacy of stimuli. I like being chained up, per se.
Projection is ordinary. Person A projects at person B, hoping tovalidate something about person A by the response of person B. However, person B, not wanting to be an obejct of someone elses ego and guarding against existential terror constructs a personality which protects his ego and maintain a certain sense of a robust and real self that is different and separate from person A. Sadly, this robust and real self, cut off by defenses of character from the rest of the world, is quite vulnerable and fragile given that it is imaginary and propped up through external feed back. Person B is dimly aware of this and defends against it all the more, even desperately projecting his anxieties back onto person A, with the hope of shoring up his ego with salubrious validation. All of this happens without A or B acknowledging it, of course. Because to face up to it consciously is shocking, in that this is all anybody is doing or can do and it seems absurd when you realize how pathetic it is.

From my experience gamma types enjoy movies a lot, but only some movies, they're like wine connoisseurs, they can tell a good film from bad from a whiff of its "aroma" / a summary of its plot or just a few scenes.

It could also simply be a desire not to get distracted from their long term goals (Ni). Watching movies is essentially short term gratification.

As an alpha, it does not compute how there can exist someone who doesn't like movies at all, although I can fully understand having picky taste. I like action and war movies the most with mystery/horror second. I dislike romantic comedies the most. I agree that The Force Awakens was pretty predictable and shallow, but I wouldn't let just one movie keep you away from everything else that is out there. I would suggest going to a site like metacritic and find the movies with the highest user ratings and watch those.

There are people for wich visual information is less important than in average. While most of movies is trash.

Remind me not to watch a movie with a gamma. Just kidding. But I don't deal well with people who claim they know how it's going to be from just a little whiff. I feel like they are too quickly dismissive, potentially missing out on some gems. Maybe it's the conflict between Ni/Ne valuing.

Also, get annoyed when people say "movies are just a waste of time." Well in a sense they are in that they don't really help with your long-term goals or make you a better person overall necessarily, but hey, a person needs some relaxation and entertainment in their lives too.
Yeah, I'm such an Si/Ne valuer.

I find that hard to imagine too, how people cannot like movies at all. Maybe I'm just easily entertained or have bad taste but I probably like about 80-90% of the movies I see. I have a hard time relating to people who are really judgemental and snobby about them. To me, it's a fun way to pass a couple of hours. I'm not looking for anything life changing or profound in them but if it happens to be, that's fine too.

But actually, I don't watch that many movies when you think about it. Maybe 1 or 2 per month. I mostly watch YouTube clips and surf the Internet.

Virtually all of the Deltas I know are movie junkies. I think a lot of alphas are too but maybe to a slightly lesser degree. Both are really into sci-fi's, trilogies, comic book adaptations and movies with lore to them. I see alphas as being strictly into those types of movies whereas deltas are often times into other genres as well such as fast-paced action movies.

All of the Gammas I know have a very similar taste in movies with maybe the exception of Female gamma SFs. Generally darker, grittier stuff. Maybe more psychological thrillers. I wouldn't restrict them to these particular types but it's a common thread i've noticed.

It seems to me that Betas like movies the least, but that's purely my experience. It seems like they like campy movies more than the other quadras do. Like super unrealistic action movies with insane stunts. Also, many of the ones I know are usually only interested in comedies.

Edit: pretty much everything I said also goes for TV shows. Although, i know more Betas who are into TV series than Gammas.

I like movies. I consider myself a film enthusiast of sorts. In fact, I aspire to be a filmmaker or screenwriter. I can be extremely picky about them, though. I don't really like comedies, the Cornetto trilogy being a notable exception. I really liked Superbad as well, bonus points for watching it when I was on the brink of graduating from high school. Like Contra said, I do have a predilection towards dark and gritty movies. I hate melodramatic and campy movies. For instance, I prefer the current Bond movies to basically every other Bond movie by a very large margin because they got rid of the campy style and flashy gadgets in favor of realism and a conspicuous sense of gravity. My relationship with most Marvel movies is that I sorta like them when I initially watch them but after a while, I tend to dislike them because I start seeing them as too frivolous and meta, a good example being Guardians of the Galaxy. Iron Man is the only one I still really enjoy. I much prefer the approach of the Daredevil TV show.

Yeah, Casino Royale gave James Bond some kind of depth as a human being. It finally made Jame Bond interesting for me. Reminds me of the Christopher Nolan Batman movies as well.

Yeah, I can't watch bad movies. I just can't. Unless they are so bad, I have to see what crazy directing or story-writing I'm going to see.

I think this is true for me. The darker and the grittier, the deeper the characters and the easier it is for me to want to see what happens to them and actually care.

Depends on how good the movie is. If it's bad then I get fidgety and might start to shake my leg due to getting frustrated that it hasn't ended yet. On the other hand, if it's good then I'll become totally absorbed in it, sometimes periodically imagining myself and what I'd do if I were living the movie.

I go through phases. sometimes i want to watch tv shows, sometimes I want to watch movies, sometimes I want to read. I watched a few movies in the last few months but mostly reading. Also, tv is what people do when they have nothing else to talk about.

I don't like movies all that much, either. I mean, some are really good, but cinema is the laziest form of art. It is literally you, sitting in a chair, seeing stuff on some screen. You don't unleash your imagination. Everything is delivered to you, lol. That's why the average person watches TV shows and movies, but don't read books.

I think books are "sexier". They have more potential. I get bored really fast when I'm seeing a movie for the second/third time, but the same doesn't happen with books. If the book is great, I can re-read it many times.

Quite a few ILIs of my acquaintance are quite the movie buffs.

I'm a Gamma extrovert and I personally lack the attention span to focus on most movies or TV shows.

genres I especially like: sci-fi, sci-fi horror, mystery, thrillers (especially psychological), suspense, dark romance, documentaries, sometimes other horror *if* it’s mixed with another genre (i usually don’t like straight horror), bad movies (especially if bad sci-fi, which might be an acquired taste since so much sci-fi is terrible). things that are eerie, dark, disturbing, haunting, dangerous, impactful, shocking, powerful or full of yearning… but i usually need there to be a fleck of light in whatever it is. and nothing really measures up. i can like terrible campy stuff too like crank 2: high voltage.

i mainly search for movies or shows that i find meaningful or that i love so that i can "keep" them. this doesn't really mean i need to have a copy of the movie. sometimes i will find something meaningful in a show amid a lot of stuff i dislike or find boring, and so then i will often feel like i'm keeping part of it. i also get more tired of most movies over time, so sometimes when i think back over movies i have loved in the past, i may no longer feel that way towards them. i reflect over things i watch over and over and think about them, searching for ways to chisel out the gem i see in it better. the "gem" is only half in the film - as the other half is in me. the reason i find something meaningful usually because it resonates with me and what i'm looking for.

a few movies i've loved or have kept something of: the divide (2011), the last days on mars (2013), pitch black (2000), terminator 2: judgment day (1991), closet land (1991), event horizon (1997), the professional (1994), nightcrawler (2014), the fifth element (1997), melancholia (2011), star trek I-IV

current shows that i kind of love: marvel's jessica jones & dominion (this is a bad show on syfy about angels and it's not what i want, but there is enough there to work with in my mind).

current movies i've been thinking about: circle (2015) and pure (2009)

i loved the divide because i felt like i was wrapped up in something dark and i loved thinking about how realistic i thought this psychological break down was. also starting a movie with a breathtaking nuclear war image is totally a way to hook me.

I'm beginning to hate watching movies. I went to Huntsman and Mother's Day. I wasn't expecting very much from either movie but they were both awful. I'm going to stick to indie movies on Netflix.

i feel like overall quality of movies in the theaters has been decreasing over time... plots and characterization seem to be increasingly shoddy while special effects and action are improving (more shock & awe moments or more delivery of mundane humor 'you're supposed to laugh now HAHA' moments).

but i can't tell if it is just that i grew up.

i haven't been able to watch anything lately because i've been too anxious to pay proper attention.

I agree that the quality is decreasing. It also seems that movie executives want to make a series out of every movie that is put out. Sequels and prequels galore!

I can only enjoy short episodes while watching with others so we can share the experience.... otherwise it gets boring quick. I hate sitting through entire movies, but comedy skits and anime are always nice. :3 Extraverted Betas like my brother and my roommate both tend to somehow always make any boring movie entertaining with their constant commentary

I like watching movies at home because I can pause and talk about it. My sister hates that I do it, though.

That only bothers me if what you're talking about is stupid. Like asking dumb questions or pointing out obvious things (ESEs love doing this while watching movies... They like to get an Fe feedback. They'll look at you periodically while you're watching it to see your reaction. It's like they have to make sure you like it, maybe so they know it's ok for them to like it or for care taking.)

    What I enjoy is my brother coming in when I'm in the middle of an anime and he just begins taking in everything without caring about not having watched it, and immediately begins making commentary to provoke laughter or just to clarify what is going on out of interest, and instead of nodding and faking enjoyment he'll attempt to get into it, and his enthousiasm for anything is so endearing.~ He's some ExFj, but I'm tending towards EIE being that he gives zero shits about anything going on currently and is always optimistic towards the future rather than complaining about the present, why the fuck am I typing my brother wow sorry my Suggestive Ne doesn't know how to tame itself I am sorry. ;w;

He has a Childish gf who he plays with romantically, I don't seem him being a victim at all. >_> Or maybe I just haven't been exposed to his sexual habits being that I'm his brother?

That at least faintly erases Si. What does he talk about? I'll have to meet this gentleman. Something tells me you're not the best typist.

he talks about whatever is being talked about. Fairly expansive in his interests. Watches anime, plays video games, currently studying to become a doctor, loves to play sports but only talks about skating tricks..

    WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I SUCK AT TYPING ;w;
