    Default greetings gamma & friends

I'm sitting on the bus listening to xiu xiu feeling kinda blarg and wanting to make a thread but I've been thinking for several minutes and don't have anything to make a thread about. I've made enough sex related polls to last a couple years. there are advice questions I have but I don't really trust myself to write about anything personal right now and I'd rather not anyway. I could have looked around for an article to link for discussion but that's impersonal and unsatisfying. then there's the questionnaire threads I like to make, but that wouldn't quite do it since the plain truth is that I'm just feeling antsy and lonely and in the sort of mood where I would like reassurance or a hello or something. the kind of mood where I get an urge to make a typing thread but thankfully I'm refraining from that too. please don't be all coddling and like "are you okay" though cuz then I'll want to stab you. people seem to say that a lot on this forum when I'm just feeling normal, I guess my normal is emo or maybe it's just my noir style.

it was surprisingly easy getting to work this morning considering the snowstorm that hit.

i started watching buffy last night. its charming. when i was a kid my parents would go to the movie rental place every weekend and i would get to pick one movie and every single weekend for a few months i ALWAYS chose buffy the vampire slayer. and i think i avoided the show because it just wouldn't do it justice. but sarah michelle gellar pulls off the whole sassy blase "just a normal high school girl killing vampires while making teenage girl commentary" thing pretty damn well.

this track is really catchy, i don't like thom yorke or four tet but burial makes up for both of them on here.

supposedly "future garage / minimal techno"

even though i've consciously stopped thinking about suckonics, my mind snaps to placing musical styles/aesthetics on a type spectrum, plus sometimes i look at people and i think "oh, this person VIs like so-and-so type, okay" and then i hope it kind of dies somewhere in the back of my mind but i'm not sure whether it biases my perception or expectations of people. anyway, i think thom yorke is Si-SEI, four tet is Ti-LII and burial is Ni-IEI which fits intertype relashunshups quite nicely.

I have some Noir Film recommendations for you!

Although, these may not make your day better. In fact, they may make it worse.

And a lot of the women in Noir films have Disney-ish voices; Mary Astor, Sylvia Sidney - it's their often unsuspecting femme fatale ways that make them noir. So it may be your calling, yet.

    Some great noir flicks:
    Night and the City
    Diabolique
    Double Indemnity (1944 version)
Dial M for Murder (in color but still basically a noir)
    Sunset Blvd
    You Only Live Once
    M (1931 version)
The Big Sleep (anything with Bogart is worth watching, even his bad films are fun to watch because he's so captivating)
    The Maltese Falcon (1941 version)
    The 39 Steps
    The Lady Vanishes

Hope your day is going well.

sweeet. i don't even know if i actually like noir. i like a couple modern movies that i've seen described as "noir-ish" like brick and some lynch stuff but i haven't even seen any of those old movies. i've been meaning to check out real noir for a while now. maybe i'll start with the color one, dial m for murder, to ease myself in to the older stuff. are you a film buff or something?

I just really like movies. I would probably ease into it with 'The 39 Steps' or 'The Lady Vanishes' because those still have bits of humor in them. 'Dial M for Murder' is still a good starting point too. All three are Hitchcock... Whereas 'Double Indemnity' or 'Sunset Blvd' are just like, depressing, depressing. Though, if you're into Lynch I'm sure you can handle it.

I really liked 'Brick' too. That's probably most like 'The Maltese Falcon' or 'The Big Sleep' and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is playing the Bogart role.

i don't remember when i learned to swim. i think i always just instinctually doggy paddled. in sixth grade gym class it took me forever to get the hang of being able to swim underwater without plugging my nose. and the chlorine turned my hair green. i've only swam in the ocean once. it was a lot rougher and saltier than i expected. it really isn't pleasant to swim in at all. and i was scared because i was warned to shuffle my feet to get rid of stingrays and i spent 80% of the time in the water frantically shuffling because i didn't want to end up like steve irwin. but it was a beautiful day and the sand was made out of billions of little crushed seashells. this place in florida called fort desoto. and it was cool just to see the ocean. even though i was sort of cheating since technically it was a bay and i wasn't really looking at thousands of miles of water and i was pretending i was to ramp up the novelty in my head. i like swimming in lakes. a lot of people can't stand the smell and the seaweed but i don't mind.

do you spend much time near the sea?

I forgot something before, at the age of 4 I went too deep into the water in a beach in Greece and some dude pulled me out, which was nice. I would have probably drowned if he hadn't.

Not very much. I'm actually not a fan of beaches and seas. I was in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday helicoptering around some oil rigs but I didn't go in. I tend to prefer pools at hotels. I used to live in Dubai and lots of people there use the beach, personally considering the water quality I don't really know why.

Have you tried sailing? Or are you a non-sailing land lubber like myself?

Try swimming on your back next time, it's pretty relaxing and doesn't require much effort - water is going to do the rest the moment you let it.

its time for my lunch break and i'm dreading it because it means calling my cousin and responding to her text. she has plans next weekend to go to my aunts house and give her an ultimatim that she go into treatment or she'll cut off contact with her since she almost killed herself last week with alcohol. and i told her that i would help in any way i could and that i would go with her. and i said it automatically without thinking because i know its going to be really difficult for her and i can't just sit on my duff and say, "ok good luck!" but i'm really not feeling up for it because lately ive been really self centered and emotionally closed off and havent had much room for caring about people but this isn't something i can ignore so i have to suck it up now and put some big girl panties on. psychically send me strenf.
