Beta: loud dumb psychopaths
Gamma: silent back-stabbers dumb red necks greedy moralist psychopaths
Delta: silent druggies moralist red necks
Alpha: friendly, smart, funny people / naive head-in-the-clouds idiots / nerds
ILE "Searcher"
Socionics: ENTp
DCNH: Dominant --> perhaps Normalizing
Enneagram: 7w6 "Enthusiast"
MBTI: ENTJ "Field Marshall" or ENTP "Inventor"
Astrological sign: Aquarius
To learn, read. To know, write. To master, teach.
I find the quadra groups most difficult to explain and therefor least useful for typing.
Quadra's are simply there to show which people get along best.
For typing use clubs.
Alpha: Fun, but not very striving-y
Beta: Fun and very striving-y
Gamma: Boring, and very striving-y
Delta: Boring, and not very striving-y
Alpha: Nice, not too edgy, want to have a fun life, but fairly content with simplicity. Jokey and kiddy.
Beta: Energetic, passionate, desperate, violent, dramatic. High risk, high reward. Live hard. Sublime, both in the positive way (Hamlet) and the negative way (Iago). Goes to extremes.
Gamma: Smart, hard-working, very ironic/sarcastic, insular. Serious conversation, some wine with friends, laughing at the absurdity of other people.
Delta: Principled, passionate but not in the beta way, more in a practical, live by your ideals way, very comfortable with "the simple life," just having a family and a lovely home and a nice life.
Alpha: Say anything
Beta: Say everything
Gamma: Say what you mean to say
Delta: Don't say that!
Alpha: Enthusiasm for ideas, projects, etc.; fun for the sake of fun
Beta: Promethean overreaching; fun for the sake of bonding and energy
Gamma: Something else, but I don't know what
Delta: Everything in moderation; fun for the sake of having a moderate amount of both pain and pleasure
And of course, the classic:
Alpha: childhood
Beta: adolescence
Gamma: adulthood
Delta: old age
EDIT:
Oh, this is somehow stolen from Gilly I think, but, think about a cloth that's made of two pieces of fabric stitched together. These are the quadras' attitudes towards the cloth:
Delta: The cloth is together, there is one piece of fabric. It cannot come apart. We need to make sure people stop trying to tear it apart, and just accept the things as they are.
Alpha: We need to unstich the two pieces of fabric of which the cloth is comprised, in order to peer behind it and see what's there.
Beta: The cloth is apart, there are two pieces of fabric. It cannot come together. We need to make sure people stop trying to force it together when it is inherently impossible to bring together. They need to accept things as they are.
Gamma: We need to stitch the two pieces of fabric together to make one whole cloth, in order to sew up the little rips and tears that still exist.

IEI. Probably Fe subtype. Pretty sure I'm E4, sexual instinctual type, fairly confident that I'm a 3 wing now, so: IEI-Fe E4w3 sx/so. Considering 3w4 now, but pretty sure that 4 fits the best.
Yes 'a ma'am that's pretty music...
I am grateful for the mystery of the soul, because without it, there could be no contemplation, except of the mysteries of divinity, which are far more dangerous to get wrong.
Quadras can be explained by Reinin dichotomies:
Alpha: merry , judicious
Beta: merry , decisive
Gamma: serious , decisive
Delta: serious , judicious
Fun = Fe/Ti, Boring = Fi/Te
Striving = Se/Ni, Not-striving = Si/Ne
Say what you mean to say (and nothing else) is sort of a generalized Te thing, but Delta is more distinctively likely to say, "don't say that" to something offensive. Plus, I like to play up the opposition between gamma and alpha and between beta and delta. I should come up with a more specific one for gamma. But I think Delta, of all the quadras, is most likely to say "some things should not be said."

Most definitely. This issue came up quite a few times in my duality interaction. The general understanding and tendency on BOTH sides was that some things should just be left unsaid. There was also the notable phrase SLI said a few times: "I'll keep my thoughts to myself."
right on the money silverchris!
Enneagram: 9w1 6w5 2w3 so/sx
Rednecks is sort of a general ST thing, druggies is a sort of general NF thing. Betas are more hard drugs, I suppose, LSD, seeing visions; Deltas are more smoke pot to stay in a constant state of chill, zen, I'm okay-you're okay, things are going well sort of bliss. Beta rednecks are more, "Get off my property! Grrr," and delta rednecks are more, "I don't like them there fancy city folk, our ways are our ways and our ways are just fine." Yes, they value Ne, but they aren't up for any major or sudden change to their lifestyle.

Alpha: Life as a slapstick comedy with fart jokes. Kinda like Judd Apatow with a little less sex and a little tamer language, maybe.
Beta: Life as a visionary tragedy. A band of lone warriors try to overcome insurmountable odds, experience both success and failure, ascent and decline, and ultimately go down fighting, winning extraordinary aesthetic dignity and changing the world in the process.
Gamma: Life as a comedy of manners (sorta). The kind that laughs at the failings of others.
Delta: Life as a heartfelt and sincere movie-of-the-week. A story of how people working together can create a happy ending, not anything perfect or ideal, but happy and satisfactory.
Alpha: Enthusiasm
Beta: Ecstasy
Gamma: Improvement
Delta: Satisfaction
Alpha: Nonsense verse, langpo, e.e. cummings.
Beta: Romantic poetry
Gamma: Metaphysical poetry
Delta: Victorian poetry
(on every one of these my gamma one is the worst. It's because I've never seen a complete gamma quadra; I've seen SEE with ESI, SEE with ILI, but never SEE, ESI, ILI, LIE).

I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

Very loosely defined, abstract groups that you get when people with supposed perfect compatibility get toghether. They rarely manifest in reality in any concrete way and are overrated as a topic of understanding for that reason.

Disgusting.Alpha: Life as a slapstick comedy with fart jokes.
Oh please. Who doesn't love a good fart joke? Regardless, alpha is definitely a lighthearted comedy sort of quadra. I guess LII-Tis can be kind of stuffy, in which case they might prefer life as a fantasy novel with a complicated mythology, but I feel like the ESEs wouldn't like that. Lighthearted comedy is something the whole quadra family can enjoy.

I think this one is the best so far.
Alpha - Most Creative, Best Hair, Best Butt, Most Sporty
Beta - Funniest, Sweetest, Most likely to use their nose as an umbrella, Most likely to die of obesity
Gamma - Most Likely To Suceed, Best Eyes, Most likely to have a town/element/insect named after them, Most likely to die a virgin
Delta - Best Smile, Most School Spirit, Most Athletic, Most visible underwear
*ahem*
You may know him as the director of such films as

and hell,
P.S. fart jokes are more Beta, imo. It's part of Se's sense of humour to be really in-your-face and confronting (*points at discojoe*), and crudity is one way of achieving this.
I still can't pick a style of movie that represents Alpha, though. I personally want to say "Let the other quadras be movies, Alpha can be slice of life anime", but I'm weird like that.
Not to derail this thread, but obese Betas terrify me. I was watching this reality TV show and this loud, extroverted and 400 pound SLE woman was on it who was using food to cover up emotional issues. And when the trainers tried to make her eat low calorie food it became a territorial struggle and she started resisting them, swearing at them, throwing things and crying at the same time. She probably would have lost the weight if she had an IEI to help her deal with those issues.
So yeah, I agree that Beta ST are very likely to die of obesity, because of reluctance to change their beliefs about it.
The valiant knight in shining armor archetype is more Delta IMO.Originally Posted by Archonalarion

Hardly Delta at all, only slightly....
There are elements of alpha, gamma, and beta I all identify with strongly. I'll have to take more time to read this all. Also find picture and media based representations (i.e. gamma music, beta artwork, alpha movie, etc), or the analogies like the cloth.... those are nice too.
Also I like Jarno's idea.... I think typing with clubs is more useful for me, the quadras have my head spinning, there seems to be alot of contradictions... aren't LII very serious? the is valued in LII and ILE but its an area of weakness... they crave that fun/enthusiasm from Fe types but they can't produce it themselves and still retain their Ti and Ne Egos.
Fine, if none of the alphas want to be a lighthearted comedy, you don't have to be... grumble grumble grumble. I shall think of another one.
Also, @GulBrianzon, your bit about crudity brings up an important point. Beta humor and language is generally considered to be the most "extreme," while delta humor and language is generally considered to be the most "mild" or "polite" (not that Delta STs can't be occasionally crude, but overall). But of course, this is all completely relative to the societal context. If you're in an atmosphere where jokes about, say, rape are common (not that I know that any of these atmospheres exist, but say they do), "beta" extreme humor has to be something WAY EXTREME like that Aristocrats joke (which I still don't know about, but it's supposed to be super dirty, right?). Conversely, if you're in Victorian England, fart jokes are, comparatively, extreme, and as such are likely to be "beta" type jokes. If you're somewhere in the middle, fart jokes are more of an alpha thing, imo, just out-of-the-norm enough to be mildly shocking, but not anything really out there. Alphas, in my experience, like mild frizzons of shock, while betas prefer intense electroshock therapy (or at least a repeated series of shocks, metaphorically speaking). So I guess what I'm saying is it's relative to cultural context, personal values, etc. However, what movies Steven Spielberg has directed matters not at all, because obviously any professional in the movie industry would have been involved with all types of movies. It's a generalization comparing the alpha style and viewpoint to a specific kind of movie, not a dictum about what sorts of movies alphas make. Plenty of betas have made lighthearted comedies (i.e., Shakespeare). Also, ET, from what I know, is a pretty alpha movie.
For instance, Mozart, in the movie Amadeus, is pretty clearly, imo, portrayed as an alpha (probably NT), and I think in that movie he has some sort of fart joke, which in the context of the society portrayed in that movie is fairly extreme as a violation of social norms, but is not really all that shocking or extreme, the way a more typically beta joke might be.

Lol nice avatar labcoat....... haha
anyways I've had some time to read through this topic.
Some other information I'm interested in also is, how do you theoretically determine which types get put in which quadra, and what types do get put in what quadra.
Also right now I'm feeling the following typing for me (1-100 scale);
Alpha - 75
Beta - 48
Gamma - 55
Delta - 18
Alpha: Fun, light-hearted, curious, conflict-aversive, hedonistic, immature
Beta: Loud, rambunctious, high-energy, ideal-devoted, upstarts
Gamma: Boring, realistic, solid, undaunted, self-sacrificing, serious
Delta: Peace-loving, cautious, cooperative, unpretentious, conservative

There is a high level of sophistication and wit associated with all clever humor. Fart jokes aren't funny past the 4th grade no matter what quadra you're in.
Filatova types the Amadeus portrayal of Mozart as IEE. She's EII.For instance, Mozart, in the movie Amadeus, is pretty clearly, imo, portrayed as an alpha (probably NT), and I think in that movie he has some sort of fart joke, which in the context of the society portrayed in that movie is fairly extreme as a violation of social norms, but is not really all that shocking or extreme, the way a more typically beta joke might be.
Fart jokes can be funny not in themselves, but if they're part of a broader context. Mozart was trying to put on an all round vulgar act. But you aren't laughing at the fart jokes, just his craziness.
A fart joke might be funny to be Betas if it evoked some Se happening or environment.
