    Default Forum Etiquette

Disclaimer: I am starting this thread out of curiosity. I'm not looking to establish rules or enforce anything. I just find etiquette very interesting to examine.

If you could make 3 rules or guidelines for the forum, what would they be? Be self-indulgent, and try to address any common irritations you have with the goings-on of this site.

Complete immunity and freedom from ILI on this site so I can spin my web. Those are my three rules for the forum.

Thank you for listening, rahmyn. Oh and rahmyn always reminds me of instant noodle soup.

The Golden Rule or ethic of reciprocity is a maxim,[1] ethical code or morality[2] that essentially states either of the following:

    • (Positive form of Golden Rule): One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself.[1]
    • (Negative form of Golden Rule): One should not treat others in ways that one would not like to be treated (also known as the Silver Rule).

This concept describes a "reciprocal", or "two-way", relationship between one's self and others that involves both sides equally, and in a mutual fashion.[3][4]

I wonder if truck would mind if in every hetero post I make I keep referring to the differences between hetros and gays even when it's got nothing to do with my hetero taste for example in the food thread which as a hetero I can tell you is wildly different from gays and gay friends that I have who are not hetero clearly have a gay taste when men/women/aliens are different from gays and hetros and gays and gays and hetros and masculine feminine.

I don't feel irritated by the things going on here. There shouldn't be any rules of conduct in my opinion.

    I have 1 so far.

In addition to the "constructive" and "like this post" options, there should be a "This conflict is played out" button. And if 20 people click it, you are obligated to take your arguing elsewhere.

I don't know if I'd really want that. But it would be an interesting experiment. I do get really bored of threads being hijacked by ongoing conflicts between members. Especially when the original thread topic gets buried!

I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

At the point you felt the need to quote me? Correct me if I'm wrong. It surely points to you having knowledge of them - if not you wouldn't be even thunder struck to point it out. Be careful with those adjectives though, someone might get the wrong impression of you.

That sounds sulky, frankly ("Some people don't like what I have to say, so I'm not going to bother communicating."). I may not fully agree with what you said, but I was at least interested in learning what exactly you meant before dismissing you out of hand, as you seem to have indicated that others are doing; we might have actually found some common ground. Your loss, I suppose.

You'll notice I didn't demand that he answer me after he declined. I simply told him what I thought of his declining and then wrote him off for that particular exchange. The response you quoted, as you may notice, was directed at Malna, who tried to offer me a different interpretation of his actions.
