I'm wondering why you, in particular, come to the16types.info?

Is your reason for coming now different than it was when you first started coming?

Mine is.


I first started coming here years ago, hoping to learn more about Socionics... I was a junior at Northwestern at the time and had become interested in MBTI. I saw potential in Socionics (i.e. inter-type relations) and was happy to find a place where people were discussing it in English.

At that time there was a lot of misinformation about Socionics, esp. given that the theory was almost entirely new to English speakers... Through translating articles and trial-and-error, a few of us ended up teaching ourselves.

Unfortunately, almost everyone who taught him/herself correctly left.

Many otherwise (relatively) intelligent people have come here hoping to learn Socionics--unfortunately, b/c of the lack of knowledgeable teachers, many got swept up in an increasingly strong tide of misinformation, (e.g. anyone who believes that Christian Bale and Gilly are the same type.)

Now those people post constantly--as they have for awhile--and champion that misinformation. (Some of them appear to have built their identities around their online personas here, which include their versions of Socionix.)

By and large, what's being talked about now at this forum is not Socionics... People use the same lingo (e.g. Te and Alpha quadra, etc,) but they've developed ideas of those things that are not actual Socionics.

For an example of this, see: the current thread in Famous People in which it's asserted as fact that Gordon Ramsey's personality does not manifest the IM element Se. (Anyone possessing only cursory knowledge of the subject and the IM elements should be able to understand that Se plays a huge part in that guy's personality.)

I keep coming to this website hoping to find someone who knows enough about Socionics to have an intelligent conversation w/ me about it...

I don't like the idea that this theory--which I think could help people in general--could languish for additional years b/c some people, for whatever reason, continue to push something that they made up themselves under the banner "Socionics." It looks like it's headed that way though--until some really incisive people are able to cut through the threads and threads of bullshit.

This is not to say I have any problem with the people who come here primarily to socialize, or to do "political" things (whatever that means--I've read "political" used as an insult by people who probably don't even know what they're criticizing, or why they're using that particular word.) I'd just rather that a message board ostensibly about Socionics actually have conversation about actual Socionics. Please?

The problem with 'actual socionics conversations' is basically people get hypersensitive to any disagreement. Well that, and they actually have a right to get hypersensitive because a lot of times people don't know how to be tactful on the internet. Or they simply don't care. I can pretty much be a total asshole if I want to, and get away with it.

Society has more real consequences for antisocial behavior. Take on stickam. All those 16-year-old douchebags that go into rooms and blare annoying music or talk shit about people and in general act annoying cause it's cool to them. If somebody were to do that at a real job they'd get fired, if at school they would at least be sent to the principal's office. One of my good friends said the internet destroys everything it touches. He's actually not wrong. As fun a tool it is, it is rather soul sucking.

What you're asking for is simply not realistic. We can make people bond and get them to get along better with one of BG's funny banners a lot more easily than we can with a socionics discussion. We don't really agree on ANYTHING about it.

You also seem to want to wrap things up too neatly. Things take on their own form no matter what we want, you shouldn't try to force things so much. So what if a forum about socionics isn't very socionics-based? It's more natural and freeing to just let it turn what it will turn into then try to force anything. What I really LOVE about these boards, is that they aren't strict and don't have so many gay ass rules that nobody needs.

Also Juju, you are making the same mistake Expat did. You are kinda talking down to people (even though that may not be your intent, that's what you come across as to everyone here) and when you act like the 'authority of us all' people hate that and don't respond well to do that at all. You are trying to tell other people what to do, that will never go over well.

People will want to talk about socionics when they feel like talking about it, but you can't force them.

Also people probably don't want to talk about socionics because they'd just get lectured by you about how you are right and they are clearly wrong. I've seen the way some people on this forum treats new users. 'OH YOU'RE SO STUPID THAT IS MBTI NOT SOCIONICS GET OUT OF HERE!!!' You really expect people to want to talk about this nonsense after being treated like that? Just let it turn into a general social grab-bag of likemindish people or something, most of us are just typical liberal leftists with a socialist bent. Just admit it and don't apologize for it.

Well... I wanted to find my dual, and I wasn't very successful in the beginning, but with some Enneagram mixed in with my so-so knowledge of socionics, I think I know what my dual looks like.

I thought I knew socionics, but people are all over the place here. I'm not sure if I'll stay because I just get more and more confused every time I try to read someone's reasoning behind why they think someone is a certain type (that is, if they bother to include it). I try not to get sucked into those arguments because they seem so pointless.
