This tendency, coupled with a need for quiet aloneness actually caused me to consider being an ILI 5 for awhile before I realize that I related by far more to the mental/psychological/emotional descriptions of IEI 4's than anything else.

Probably a good sign of someone becoming a more balanced and grounded XEI.

I've been one to mentally collect data, and loads of it, so I could make sense of things - for me, it's probably the HA and the Polr, I'm not sure if much of what goes on in my mind actually constitutes "thinking" from a perspective

Math is a huge thing for me - I remember conversion ratios for all sorts of things, I have pi and the square root of 2 memorized to nine decimal places, the golden ratio memorized to three, conversion ratios for inches/centimeters, km/m, the amount of calories per gram of fat, carbohydrate, and sugar, shortcuts to see if a number is divisible by 3 or 9 (add the digits, and if those are divisible by 3 or 9, the entire number is - this can cut big numbers down to size so you can mental math more easily, I've got all sorts of multiplication workarounds), I memorized the powers of 2 up to 2^29 (about the only one-digit number I didn't do that with to some degree is 7)... just all sorts of stuff, too much to list... I multiplied two 4 digit numbers in my head once before, but it made me really dizzy

And yep, same with me as with aixelsyd, I'll read and read and read - I lurked this forum alone some 100 pages deep in places I read lots of music reviews on Pitchfork and at Robert Christgau's site, I read lots of music theory things, I read up on throatless shears and armormaking (for a friend mostly, then I couldn't stop reading), I read up on different types of wood to use in guitars (and wondered what would happen tonewise if a hollowbody guitar were to be filled with Sulfur Hexafluoride thanks to a certain Mythbusters episode ), I just pack my head full of anything (the glycemic indexes of foods was a thing for me for a while - from here out, it's white potatoes for me if/when I go for potatoes)... and if any of my data falters, I just flood my brain with more data until everything's awesome again

I go on cleaning sprees too, and I'll get out the tape measure to find the dimensions of an object lots of the time, and take that into consideration when I choose whether to keep it or donate it... if there's a thing I have, and it's causing me more strain to have it than I can get good out of it, then I get rid of it... some of my ideas there could have come from the info I got from Feng Shui, which I may not have gone about "correctly", but it made things better than had I done nothing...

Well, woof mentioned something in daffy's thread about behavior that seemed xxFp (in reference to data collection such as in regards to species of domesticated animals) and what he brought up, in my experience, is very true, speaking for myself and only myself.

I am a complete and uter data junkie. I like collecting information relevant to my interests so much to the point I presumed this was indicative of me being Te creative. Now I sincerely doubt that be the case.

But even as a little kid, I would read encyclopedias and knew the various species of cats, dogs, plants, etc, etc. It was interesting to me. With the Internet, I was a bit of a useful advice junkie. I would read/lurk on forums to gather insight from people's experiences and words of wisdom, searched for articles relevant to whatever was of interest, and was basically just finding subjects and learning about them. I wouldn't say all the sources were always great, but whatever.

tvtropes is addictive. But I think that's to everyone not just me.

I don't know if I consider myself a data junkie. While I do love the occasional wikipedia journey, it's normally to look up the plot/history of a complicated story/world: Dr. Who, the DC Crisis Series, the Star Wars novels, etc. Its how I compensate for not having time/energy to read fantasy novels (the only point is to figure out the plot anyway, 'cause the writing's usually bad, so I just skip the middleman and go to wikipedia for the plot!)

In general for entertainment/relaxation I either practice something I need to get better at, especially singing, or I investigate a story that seems to hold some promise for being complicated/philosophically interesting, whether it be in video games (Final Fantasy/Xenogears Series) or tv/film/novelizations (Star Wars et al). So that's what I do with my 'data junkie'-ish moments, rather than confining them to the accumulation of facts.

Oh, I also like accumulating information about things I want to do in the future, like looking up poetry MFA programs, or searching for singing tips. But that's largely for the sake of future-wanking myself, trying to find something to get super excited about that will happen in the future rather than focusing on what's going on now. "Keep spending most our lives/living in a future paradise" (and before anyone says anything, that's a lyric from the original "Pastime Paradise" by Stevie Wonder, upon which the song you're thinking about is based).

Not sure what breed of data-junkie I am but I do spend stupid amounts of time browsing on info about current interests eg: socionics. S'like I'm figuring the system out slowly. I copy paste some posts I find particularly valuable, so I can re-access the information at some point, but rarely refer to it again. Hm.

The point is knowing the information is within reach, that valuable knowledge is not lost forever, and that I have stores of things to read when I get bored of reading but don't want to pay attention to important stuff anyway. Psychological information is my heroin.

Awesome thanks glad you read it and liked it and related to it! And ooooh, I'll boil potatoes next time - I want to keep the skins on, and I'm thinking of using pureed boiled potatoes in place of some of the flour in some of the baked food I've been making... I should make some cookies soon!

My job requires rolling up my sleeves and plunging my hands elbow deep in shit loads of data, then attempting to refine this raw shit into something useful.

I'm like the medevial tradesman stomping on grapes to make wine, except the grapes are data and the stomping is mouse clicks in excel and access databases. And the wine is a refined analysis for consultation purposes.

Recently I've found these skills useful. I've been using vba to download the html from websites in .txt form using a webcrawler program, and then run through line by line of the .txt files in a folder to extract data, which is printed out on a spreadsheet, then ran through again by another program to build a batch file of downloads, which I run in internet download manager. Using this method I have become capable of mining an entire site of its media content. I send the download into a harddrive and run the batch while at work.

Eventually I'm going to switch over to a man's programming language.
