i find her super interesting. type her puhleaze.

    a list of her sayings:
    http://mfx.dasburo.com/art/truisms.html

    wiki:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenny_Holzer

"When you start to like pain things get interesting. Pain is the common result of a subordinate position. Traditionally, suffering is uncomfortable and undesirable. Perhaps it is more intelligent to cultivate pain as a means of liberation? Is it possible that enjoyment of pain can be subversive? When one does not fear pain, one cannot be manipulated. When aroused by suffering, one can control any relationship. When agony ceases to be a barrier, death is not forbidding. The implications are marvellous. Pain is not oppressive, but strengthening and most sublime. It is necessary only to deny the pleasure/pain dichotomy."

I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

Pain whore. Sexually attracted to men who inflict pain. I know a woman named 'Kisa' on a message board who is like that. Angry socialist, feminist, I agree with her on many things but I don't understand women who like men to abuse them sexually in bed. It's weird to me. I like some domination stuff, like its erotic, but a lot of girls like the dude to be downright sociopathic to them. Haha.

I think I would make a horrible heterosexual man. Even if I was straight, I wouldn't want to inflict pain on women- and most women seem to enjoy pain. I would need to be with a girl who genuinely enjoys a nice guy which is about .000003% of the female population.

ha, are you talking about the quote? (i dont really know much about her beyond what i put in this thread.)

i'm not a sexual masochist - i think i might have some of those tendencies, but i've never really done anything with them - but i thought that quote was really true and thought-provoking and it was what initially caught my interest about her. the power and freedom involved in being able to fully experience pain, idk, that whole dynamic is really fascinating to me. i don't think the sadist necessarily has the upper hand.

I've gotten an impression of rational, Te/Fi valuing type as well. There isn't a whole lot of her text to analyze but I did note that there was a certain rocking, back-and-forth rhythm to it that is also present in the Lao-tzu quote in your signature, which resembles D-A cog-style belonging to four types: LSE, ILI, EIE, SEI.

VI-wise she resembles Si-LSEs the most. Here's Holzer's pic in comparison to Hugh Jackman and there is also some semblance to Agarina's LSE friend.

    edit -
In the video she says: I wanted to set up a situation where there are hundreds of sentences all of which are plausibly true to someone, but then in effect pose the question "what do you do, how, for example, would you govern given all these conflicting opinions" - this is Aristocratic EJ mentality (LSE and EIE), she is taking on a balancing act, trying to create cohesion among all the possible and possibly opposing opinions.

Don't you think an LSE would be better dressed than her and maybe even have their hair done and have makeup or earrings on?

I am interested in her type because she is a dead ringer for a woman I worked with last year. This person seemed very serious, at times quite arrogant, but I also wasn't threatened by her at all. I just felt she was horribly socially awkward and cerebral, lol.

She reminds me of a logical version of Leonard Cohen in the video WA posted:

"How could we forget those ancient myths that stand at the beginning of all races, the myths about dragons that at the last moment are transformed into princesses? Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love."

i could see her as some Delta type.

her "art" reminds me of a bunch of the art displayed at one of the museums we visited in DC. if it matters - i personally have a negative reaction to this kind of art.

"with all the holes already in you there is no reason to define the outside environment as alien"
someone's subjective experience could easily lead them to define the "outside environment" as "alien", why should they abandon this if it their experience leads them to this conclusion, if they perceive it to be so? don't say there is "no reason"; they may as well have a good reason that other people know nothing about.

"it is in your self-interest to find a way to be very tender"
given the chance, it could be in some oppressed person's self-interest to pick up an AK-47 and gun down his oppressor - what good would it be for them to instead be "very tender" in that situation?

"you are a victim of the rules you live by"
some people may make themselves and/or others miserable by blindly following certain rules, thus making themselves a "victim" of their choice to follow said rules. but there may also be other people who make themselves and/or others happier because of the particular rules they choose to live by; how then, would they be a "victim" of anything? living by certain rules does not necessarily always yield negative consequences for people, as the original statement might imply.

to me, these lofty declarations ignore the value of people's subjective realities. these statements are telling people how they should define their worlds, instead of respecting the fact that everyone has their own unique perspective shaped by their individual experience. the statements are attempting to force some kind of idealistic "objective" reality on the viewer, a reality that in my opinion doesn't really exist.

ftr my reactions to her messages are mixed but most of them do inspire an emotional or mental reaction from me, which is how I see them - starting points for thought, rather than flat-out impositions like glam saw. in a way I see it as kind of "too easy" - anybody could come up with a slogan and put it on a sign. on the other hand, it does have an effect on me. and my overall impression of it is positive.

lse was strongly on my mind after seeing the second video and I'm cool with that typing.
