    Default Functional dichotomies: valued/non-valued, conscious/unconscious

Something I hope Smilingeyes hasn't written about.

    If

conscious is "I focus on it."
    unconscious is "I ignore it."

    and

strong is "I can do it."
weak is "I can't do it."

    Then,

Ego is "I focus on something I can do."
    Super-ego is "I focus on something I can't do."
    Super-id is "I ignore something I can't do."
Id is "I ignore something I can do."

    So,

valued is "I focus on something I can do or I ignore something I can't do."
non-valued is "I focus on something I can't do or I ignore something I can do."

    (See also http://socionics.us/philosophy/differentiation.shtml)

From this it is obvious how the valued-nonvalued functional dichotomy (i.e. quadra values) results. In a perfect world we could focus on our strengths and ignore our weaknesses. Thus the Id is intentionally subdued because it is unconscious and strong, and the Super-ego because it is conscious and weak.

    QED.

I like the result but not the premise (is that the right word to use here?)

conscious is "I focus on it."
    unconscious is "I ignore it."
I don't think we necessarily "ignore" the things that our unconscious is involved with. Perhaps this is just crossed lines in what the definition of "I" should be... you seem to be taking a "conscious I" approach to my "the whole enchilada" approach

    What's the "whole enchilada" approach?

I'm not sure how to define in a different way what unconscious really means, so I just went with what I think is the standard definition. "Ignore" doesn't have to be taken too literally.

I consider "I" to be both my conscious and unconscious thought... the whole enchillada... I see my unconscious as almost more active than my conscious... there's all kinds of weird shit going on in there

Well yeah, like I said don't take it too literally. Both the unconscious and conscious are parts of the self.

What I don't get is this:

I see my unconscious as almost more active than my conscious... there's all kinds of weird shit going on in there
    ???

well it's true... it's pretty easy to prove to yourself that your unconscious is constantly doing all kinds of trippy shit behind your back on it's own. It's not just for crazy people like me either
anyways... sorry about weirding out your thread

This probably adds absolutely nothing, but because I'm sad enough to think about Socionics when driving to work in the mornings, I was thinking about a slightly different way of expressing this. If we say:

    Conscious equals +
    Subconscious equals -
    Strong equals +
    Weak equals -

And if we combine them and say that + is valued and - is not valued...

    Ego = Conscious and Strong = ++ = +
    Super-Ego = Conscious and Weak = +- = -
    Super-Id = Subconscious and Weak = -- = +
    Id = Subconscious and Strong = -+ = -

This is the point where I'd change my mind about posting this and simply delete everything, but for some reason I'm of a different mindset right now. Oh well, I'm sure it's not the worst thing that's ever been posted.

Yes, BLauritson, that's a good way to think about the mathematical nature of the dichotomies.

As for the worst thing ever posted - that's a tough one!
