    Default Thinking/Feeling dichotomy and Emotion

Does the following question decisively determine whether a person is T or F:

Do you feel awkward when you show your emotions?

If this question is inadequate, please suggest a better question.

I think everyone can be both logical or emotion, but the thing that makes the difference between T and F boils down to emotional restraint.

I think the difference lies in how often you express/use/are felling emotions. T people are most often in a world of practicalities and F are in a world of emotion.

Awkward doesn't really do it, because it really depends on the emotion you are showing. I feel very awkward when showing certain emotions and not others.

That's very true for me. For example, if I'm happy, I'll definately show it. On the flip side, I hate it when people know if I'm emberassed or sad.
Ditto. I dont mind showing irritation if its controlled and justified. If I am really angry and not just annoyed I depart to solitude to get control of my feelings.

I feel so awkward I learned to write down stuff or express it in gifts and actions... I have to remember to say thanks.

    Its just...

The way an INFJ feels panic in a confrontation, I feel panic if I was about tell someone I love them, or something important like that.

only if its genuine do I get that feeling... Its not really panic but extreme nervousness...

so I find it better not to open up at all, but express to a few trusted ones.

So how can F and T be clearly differentiated? (Everyone has T and F in them.)

One concentrates on F more, and feels more of a need to express it (weather through other people or scratching a poem on a little piece of paper... you get the point.), and one is more concerned with logics, etc.

Everybody has each but what makes you one or the other is how much you use each.

A good example is when you critisize many feeling people... a lot of them will take it offencively, while a lot of T people will take it as if you are simply helping them correct error of sorts, or just as you are giving them adivice. This is a good examply because immediately each takes it in a T or F manner. This is not always, but it kind of shows how one thinks more prominately in F/T then the other. Am I making any sence? I'm trying.

Is this a good question for differentiating T and F:

Do you try to suppress your emotions?

Suppress as in not feel or suppress as in not express?

suppress as in restrain (hold back)

    Let me rephrase:

Do you try to restrain your emotions?

Again, restrain from acting on them or showing them or restrain from experiencing them all together?

I'm not trying to be difficult... I try to allow myself to feel whatever it is I feel without any guilt or frustration with myself, but I generally don't like to express how I feel and I always try to respond to emotions rather than react to them.

I thought responding and reacting were the same thing. Maybe I've misunderstood you.

Please, could explain what you mean by respond and react?

    Thanks

    My friend hurt my feelings:

    a) Repress- Tell myself it's all okay
    b) React- Yell at my friend
    c) Respond- Tell my friend she hurt my feelings or remedy the situation in some other responsible way that suits the needs of each party

    How about this:

Do you try to flatten your emotions?

Overall I'm going to say yes, but...

again, flatten them to the world or inside myself. It's sorta hard to describe what I do. I used to be somewhat impulsive and reactive. Then I became an adult (and in a lot of ways I was a still very much a teenager until I was 22 or 23). Now I detach part of myself so I can be rational and at the same time embrace my emotions because I know that both are essential for balance and health.

I can look at situations very objectively and still feel strongly at the same time. And I try to encourage those feelings. My logical side takes my emotional side's desire's into consideration. My logical side works for my emotional side's best interests, really.

LOL, I was warned by a therapist that I am nurturing Dissociative Personality Disorder (formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder), but it was the same crackpot therapist who accused me of genderal role reversal issues and trying to manipulate her sacred MMPI-2 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2).

Inside yourself. If you flatten them inside yourself then they will also be flattened to the world.

I am the worst test taker in the world when it comes to stuff like this. I always want to write my own answers, and they're always half a page long. That's why it took me forever to figure out my type. I'd read a question and question the context and think of all the exceptions and generally drive myself and whoever might be around me insane. There's never an easy answer with me.

But if you're asking these questions to get an idea of what types generally answer, I'm probably not a very good representation of E, T, or p.

Fi people get angry at ugly people. Ti people get angry at people who have trouble communicating.
