Default Rick's Type Messages (and growth)

I introduced the topic of "type messages" in April and worked on the concept a bit more in this article, hoping to flesh out the messages into type descriptions. Months passed, and I have returned to them again as part of my new type test.

The idea of a "type message" is to formulate in a few short words the principal contribution of each type to the world around him/her. Here are my current formulations:

ILE - Searching for the unknown and spreading knowledge.
SEI - Deriving enjoyment from all your actions and interactions.
ESE - Turning life into an enjoyable, beautiful experience.
LII - Structuring reality and creating correct systems of thought.
EIE - Riveting attention and energy to meaningful causes.
LSI - Establishing and overseeing correct structures and systems.
SLE - Challenging the current order and expanding influence.
IEI - Recognizing meaning in the events of life around you.
SEE - Making an impression on people and holding their attention.
ILI - Recognizing what is happening and deriving benefit from it.
LIE - Achieving beneficial efficiency in all areas of life.
ESI - Recognizing and balancing people's needs and expectations.
LSE - Managing worthwhile, productive, and wholesome activities.
EII - Being exemplary and instilling ideal values.
IEE - Expanding your horizons and helping people develop.
SLI - Balanced, harmonious living and temperance.

Of course, none of these are perfect - as no short, crisp descriptions can be - but they capture something essential about each type.

1 For the LII, that is very fitting for me. Does it work for you?

2 Before I saw this, I was thinking about things that would actually cause and motivate growth and more balance for a type. That is to say, what would cause personal growth, or what would be an easy direction to follow?
    • 2a Example --- for myself, the LII 'message' is essentially related to my motivation for growth (I am also reminded of the brief spiritual-function descriptions on Rick's site). Because I desire to structure reality and create correct systems, that allows for me to become more than an introverted thinker: I realize I need more than that
Also, this may be related to Enneagram growth: 5 to 8, or 1 to 7.

2b Furthermore, I would say that your ability to grow is related to what side of your polr you are on - whether you avoid it (and remain stationary) or seek to consciously deal with it and expand your comfort zone.

(There is a lot of space between the dots, and I don't have time to draw them closer together right now. Comment on what you can)

I think the EIE sounds accurate.

From these ones, ILE would fit me better than ILI, though I identify with the ILI description slightly here. In daily life, I do try to think about what would be strategically advantageous. But just on theoretical grounds, the phrasing "Recognizing what is happening" seems off. It appears to focus too much on the external world, and suggests to me the image of someone who is constantly out there talking to people, scouting around, finding out "what's happenin'."

PS...Besides the "Hey, what's happenin'?" image, the other image that pops into my mind regarding the ILI description is the one-track-mind-for-business kind of person...someone like the promoter in Rocky, with the greased backed hair, or in general someone who's all about business and thinks of everything in terms of dollars and cents.

Again, nobody I've ever met that seems to be ILI fits that.

Here's an alternative for the ILI type message:

"Having a unique point of view and discussing, defending, or refining it logically."

Of course that description may sound a bit too "Alpha" to some....

agreed, but that is clearly not the message being presented in rick's synopsis

i would tend to agree; i like rick's ILI message some but i think it definitely could focus a little more on philosophical viewpoints, which i think are very characteristic of ILIs.

None of them totally fits me. These are the best ones, in no particular order:

IEI - Recognizing meaning in the events of life around you.
ILI - Recognizing what is happening and deriving benefit from it.
LIE - Achieving beneficial efficiency in all areas of life.

I am somewhere between ILE and LII depending upon my mood.

something between LIE and SLI. i like the EII one a lot, too. i agree with jonathan and niffweed, that the ILI one sounds like an opportunist.

ILI - Recognizing what is happening and deriving benefit from it.
I'll have to rephrase the ILI one somehow. What I had in mind here was the sense of recognizing or understanding the significance of processes happening around you and figuring out the best ways to derive utility or benefit from these processes in a way that saves everyone effort.

When powerful, EII; when confused, LII; when concerned, ILE.

I'm a very confused person, concerned with being powerful.

I relate to the SLI message. I have been working the last 2 or 3 months to become completely balanced. This involves an almost vegetarian diet, yoga/excercise, patience with others, and maintenance of all my personal belongings. Only one thing has thrown me off course, and that is a woman. I said to myself, "I was foolish and I won't let that happen again."

That makes a lot more sense.

If you're looking to condense it, maybe "Recognizing the underyling processes, and figuring out how to derive benefit from them."

It's still a bit cryptic...maybe your longer explanation is better. The key thing is that your newer phrasing takes the focus away from extraversion (happening) and sensing/action orientation (deriving benefit) to introversion (recognizing processes) and a more abstract orientation to action (figuring out).

I like the first part. (Why are there two parts?)

"Correct" is not the word I would use. Three suffice: "Consistent, useful, and accurate."

I agree with this. The PoLR shouldn't become a phobia. Although, actively seeking it might be as psychologically unwise as actively avoiding it. Maybe taking it as it comes and not stressing out too much is the best idea.

the principal contribution of each type to the world around him/her.

ILE - Searching for the unknown and spreading knowledge.
SEI - Deriving enjoyment from all your actions and interactions.
LSI - Establishing and overseeing correct structures and systems. (maybe just overseeing)
IEI - Recognizing meaning in the events of life around you.
IEE - Expanding your horizons and helping people develop.

    What I relate to:

ESE - Turning life into an enjoyable, beautiful experience.
LII - Structuring reality and creating correct systems of thought.
SLE - Challenging the current order and expanding influence.
ESI - Recognizing and balancing people's needs and expectations.

    I kinda relate to this:
ILI - Recognizing what is happening and deriving benefit from it.

    For me ILI > LIE.

I try to gain benefit from everything, which is sometimes accomplished through efficiency.

I really wanna identify with SEI, my superego, but I am stuck with my ILI self.

I have created ESI and SEE alternate personalities for myself in my failed attempt of 'becoming' an SEI.

Because you expect other people to actually do something the moment you ask them to do it, in the sense of "this needs to be done right now"?

In this case, the simple answer is that you are expecting other people to behave as ENTjs, as Aushra said:

In contrast to the logical-sensory extrovert, in daily concrete matters the ENTj yields to the will of their partner. They can interrupt one thing and start another, if this is what the partner wants.
