    Default Types and music

I'm sure this has been done to death before but I couldn't find anything recent. And right now I feel like returning all these assignments with nothing on them except "NUTS!". Shouldn't have procrastinated...

... anyways, what's your type and what do you listen to?

I've had one Pandora station going for the last week or so, which is probably the most patience I've ever had with one... For those of you who don't know, Pandora basically recommends and streams music it believes is similar to your preferences.

I have trained this station well, and so it basically alternates between a small selection of the most enduring pieces composed or simply performed by Ratt, Enuff Z'Nuff, Toto, Great White, Europe, Mr. Big, Quiet Riot, Hanoi Rocks, Cinderella, Poison, and Dokken.

    Oh yea.

As a direct consequence of this beautiful music, way too much air guitar is going on in these premises

Ah, I like very much those 80s groups you listed, too.

I think you should try to add Extreme, though.

I prefer "Play with me" from that album, even if I think that the whole "Pornograffitti" is the masterpiece, hard to choose only one track - maybe He-Man Woman Hater.

Ever heard anything from Dweezil Zappa, the son of Frank?

No, haven't heard any Dweezil Zappa. Not much of Frank Zappa either. Steve Vai mentions them a lot. I'll have to check out both!

I'm generally into heavy metal and to a lesser extent, rock music in general. I also like symphonic and operatic music. I think basically, anything that's musically heavy and melodic is likely to interest me.

ISTp and I listen to many genres. Groups I can think of now: U2, Cranberrys, Carlos Vives, Los Aterciopelados, Nirvana, Chili Pepers, Daddy Yankie, Wisin y Yandel, Black Eyed Peas, Rammstein, Manu Chao, Andreas Vollenweider, Amonsulu, Chicane, Mazzive Attack,..., I could go on for an hour listing them all.

I'm IEE and I have a passion for dark, scathing tuba solos. When I'm in the mood for a little fun I put on some polkas and sing along with my kazoo. I don't like electronic music, so I generally stick to accordions, flutes, and fiddles. When I need a strong beat I stamp my foot real hard as if I were smashing cockroaches. Sometimes I invite the neighbors to come over and square dance.

Alpha NT (INTj -subtype): Primarily Classic & Indie Rock and some other stuff. I have eclectic tastes (as most people think of themselves), but I try and avoid most country, rap, electronica, teenie bop pop, and 90s alternative.

Very Frequently (my desert island 5)
    - The Who
    - Led Zeppelin
    - The Velvet Underground
    - Pink Floyd
    - Yoko Kanno (anime composer)

    Frequently
    - Cream
    - Yardbirds
    - Jimi Hendrix
    - Jefferson Airplane
    - The Beatles

    Less Frequently
    - The Rolling Stones
    - The Moody Blues
    - The Kinks
    - Other Assorted Anime Music

I will not go to into the indie rock. Although there will undoubtedly be bands that people would recognize, I have just as many bands which define my taste that people would probably not know as they are local indie bands.

I think music is just a bit type related cause is very stongly bound on social circumstance.
After my 18th birthay I kinda dislike the music ive heard until this time(hip hop) so i've tried to figure out what music i really like, without any other opinion.

This is music is music i like (shurely too weird for you), i call it mind(and synthesia) supporting music:

    www.felixkloos.de/metope-nightlight.mp3
    www.felixkloos.de/metope-crux.mp3
    its painting wonderful colors

edit: i think *normal* istjs prefer guitar musik, a bit rockalike like hoobastank.

It's nice, makes me move. I like how it scrapes, I love that. I like electronic stuff like that. But too much of it tends to mess with my mind. But then again that's why I listen to it .

Please tell me some artists of music you like!
Oh god, that's hard. For relaxation I like the new age-y stuff like enya, vangelis and so on. From club music I listen to compilations.

Latino, jazz, and classic rock (or progressive rock which usually takes some combination of these styles and others).

    I mostly like:
    Commercial House
    Vocal Trance/Eurodance
    Alternative/Modern Rock

but I'll listen to anything if its really good. I have an insanely large music collection.

One common trait in my musical tastes - I only like sad music. Even with eurodance, which is generally syrupy happy. The sadder the better.

Well here are some of my all time favorites

Aurora – ordinary world, Paul Van Dyk – Tell me why, Mike Oldfield – dark island, Adiemus – Adiemus, Natalie Imbruglia – Torn, Donna Lewis – I love you always forever, Annie – my heartbeat, Republica – ready to go

But too much of it tends to mess with my mind.

Annie - My Heartbeat is an awesome song. I heard it once in a bar and I hassled the bartender till she looked on the computer and told me the title of the song.

Wow, really? I'm... flattered. Feels good . Yeah, I've got some more, would you like me to base myself on club, euro dance, being that I see that you like it, or would you like me to spread it out?

I have wayyy too much house/club dance songs . If you want any recommendations I could tell you some good tracks.

I've been getting into softer electronica stuff lately, kinda like that Paul Van Dyk song or My Heartbeat. Have you ever heard the song Frou Frou - It's good to be in love? Stuff in that direction...get the song if you haven't heard it, I think you'd like it. But I welcome any & all music recommendations as long as their good .

    LOL. I hope you're joking.

I like music with interesting (and mostly consonant) harmonies. All loose ends should be resolved, and development is a big plus.

Thanks a lot . It's rare that I get recommendations from someone who actually has good taste.

I'll give you my playlist of favorite sad vocal trance songs which took me years to compile. I linked the ones that I could find on youtube, do you use limewire/other p2p? If not I'll figure out a way to upload the other ones for you.

It's funny I've never watched any of these music videos before. I've listened to the songs probably thousands of times each but never thought of searching for them on youtube .

    ATB - Let U Go (2005 Reworked)
    Chicane - No Ordinary Morning
    DJ Tiesto - Just Be
Ray Knox - Sign of Love
    William Hawk - Say Goodbye
Gouryella - Ligaya (Greencourt Vocal Mix)
This is a different mix but still a great song...the sound effects kinda ruin it but this is one of my top three songs of all time
    ATB - Ecstasy
    Above & Beyond - Home
DJ Tiesto - Close to You
    Reloaded - Alive
Tess - The Second You Sleep

    C-Base - Into a Fantasy
    Lasgo - Something
Angelic - Can't Keep Me Silent (Dumonde Mix)
Yanou ft. Do - On & On
    Lost Witness - Seven Colors
    ATB - Long Way Home

    enjoy

I like soul stuff. older or neo. I've been listening to stevie wonder and erykah badu lately. When I'm not listening to that I like a little jazz, or rock, or whatever. A really good rap album is Blazing Arrow by Blackalicious. I don't think i've ever really been into music. I'm not a collector or anything. I have about 400 albums, that probably makes me more into music than most people, but I think my interest is kind of superficial. I am a good musician though.

Peronally that stuff's kinda repetative for my tastes. I prefer more complex-structured music, like this.

(That's only a live version of the first four and a half minutes... the recorded version is about 17 minutes, it's less a "song" and more a "suite" of music, like classical, and the full version has 17 movements in it... sorry I couldn't find that one).

Default Typology and Music Preferences: is there a link?

Music types! I'd like to run an informal little experiment with the Big Five. I'm also running it on G+.

First, find a good, extensive Big Five questionnaire (and report back here with the link plz!). Get your %ile results in OCEAN. Next, list out your favourite 5 music genres (like psychedelic trance, lounge, nu-jazz, "up-tempo" jazz), and provide 3~5 key words or phrases that capture why these are your top 5 genres.
