    Ditto

Anyway, to make this constructive: which ones, exactly? Or too many to bother. I mean it's posted for us to debate anyway.

Like I would put Shakira into Gamma as SEE > ESE.

The fact that you have discarded both VI and subtypes fits into your overall pattern of treating Socionics like a game that you can profit from.

These typings aren't based in an objective measure like VI. That’s the overall flaw underlying its construction. These typings are simply based in a highly impressionistic methodology, not naturalism/realism. Typings based upon the ruminations of a diagnostic team only reinforce the bad habits of heightened subjective impressionism.

That’s not to say you can’t present arguments for these typings here by spinning facts and evidence pertaining to behaviors. In the case of historical figures, behaviors as filtered through the lenses of historians. People do it all the time here. That’s what I call socionics lawyering. OJ’s lawyer’s presented good arguments for OJ’s innocence. Nevertheless, OJ’s claims of innocence had no basis in reality. Much like, you can make a great argument for why somebody is an ILE, but that typing has no basis in reality. Socionics lawyering is where reality ends and your imagination begins. VI is where your imagination ends and reality begins.

VI is currently the most valid indicator of type because it points to a realistic basis for its groupings. A core point of distinction from the MBTI. The list does get typings right. The classics like Zhukov, Brando, Stalin, etc. So the list has extracted typings from classical socionics but leaves behind its most important typing tenet. Strange. MBTI doesn't establish any basis in reality for its groupings. It only attempts to validate the universe that mbti has set up for itself. WSS falls into the same trap. Subtypes is also significant to socionics as it one of the main ways for distinguishing Socionics from MBTI. You can call it a Socionics list, but in fact it's got more in common with MBTI.

Absent VI, all type lists stand at the stage of hypothesis having yet to be tested against reality. Since I know the VI firsthand for many of these figures, I can affirmatively state that a lot of these typings fail the reality test. It's like a painting where the artist just whips his paintbrush at the canvas and then presents it for display. The erratic typing practice would become much clearer with photo galleries for each section.

Just to show how defunct subjective consensus is, look no further than the Jury’s verdict in the OJ trial. That’s with nine people sitting on the jury, and after intensive deliberations. Typings based upon the ruminations of a diagnostic team only reinforce the bad habits of subjective impressionism.

VI is not valid until there is sufficient empirical evidence for a causal link between physical features and personality type. Until you have that, the 'impressionistic' gestalt approach of looking at evidence of someone's personality through their words and deeds, interpreting key themes and analysing a 'best fit' in Socionics, is the best approach we have. Without sufficient data, the best way of typing personality is looking at personality. You can claim that VI is more 'objective' all you like, and while it looks at concrete, irrefutable data with less need for interpretation, the relevance of that data to personality remains founded on a baseless assumption. Indeed, in order to accumulate evidence to support VI, you would first have to compare VI typings with the more 'direct' personality assessments that we use.

We did not type Zhukov, Brando or Stalin by looking at their face. We looked at their personality and applied that same method to all the other typings. We take a more advanced approach than MBTI and regularly reach different conclusions to MBTI's CelebrityTypes.com.

Way to claim many of these typings are your own, and not the work of people that came before you. A ton of these typings come from this forum long before your club showed up on the scene. Not giving credit, perhaps by a simple generalized shoutout to all the work done before you which you took typings from, is dishonest.

    That being said, interesting list!

I'm pretty sure John Wayne is SLI. In The Quiet Man, he meshes with Maureen O'Hara like he was born for it, and she is clearly more IEE than EII.

My SLI father resembles Wayne a lot, both in temperament and behavior. I've known a lot of LSE's, and none of them convey that "strength held in reserve" that SLI's have.

Linus Pauling – most remarkable quantum chemist and high school drop out (OK, graduated after 2 Nobel Prizes). My impression is LII
Vitamin C obsession regarding health + other health related research. His thesis url head is quite funny: ILE: -Pauling_1925 http://thesis.library.caltech.edu/17...ing_L_1925.pdf Interesting stuff from 1920s. X-ray crystallography calculations done without computers.

Nobel Peace prize (nuclear weapons) and some other political activism. Essentially he was very active in ethical issues.

My suggestions for further typing. Arguably top two mathematicians:
Carl Friedrich Gauss (broad an deep)
    Leonhard Euler (creative genius)

Those guys were truly phenomenal people but quite under rated outside of mathematical circles.

    That being said, interesting list!
It's worth keeping in mind that I did not call this 'Jack Aaron's Benchmark', but the 'WSS Benchmark'. People who were part of WSS contributing to this benchmark include Expat, Hotelambush, Ritella and Aestrivex. Even then, the purpose of a benchmark is to standardise opinion so that there are universally recognised examples of the types, not to claim "I got it first". That doesn't help anyone.

Furthermore, there is no precedent in the Socionics community for people owning a particular typing by having reached it first chronologically. If someone on this forum typed a figure in a way that I happen to agree with, it's because I went over the person myself and could see they were that type. If you want to set up a record of who specifically reached what typing first, then feel free and make it thing for people to do.

Also, it is really not in our interest to be entirely original, i.e. have a position no one else has taken before, in our typings of famous figures. All that means is that we're probably reaching batty typings, rather than accurate ones that anyone can see to be true. If our typings are ones that others have reached on this site and others in the past, that means we're not off the deep end.

Some of the highly controversial ones are right but some of those do look questionable like Arnie, James Franco, Laci Green etc.

Are you of the position that Arnie is LSE?

What would you propose for James Franco and Laci Green?

Arnie seems LSI and introverted, and his Fe seems too weak for either ESTx types.

Laci Green is probably IEE, reminds me of that guy from Scrubs but way more annoying.

    James Franco doesn't seem intuitive.

EDIT: Arnie - "You have to always be hungry for something, otherwise life becomes dull and dead. I believe in this western philosophy of conquering, achieving, and getting things, and going out and working very hard rather than just sitting somewhere meditating and doing nothing." (Se)

Key word being "were" -- Aestrivex and I no longer have any input on the benchmark and I don't endorse all of the typings on it (for example I think William Shatner is EIE and Katy Perry is ESI). Overall it's better than most though.

I'd actually have put Gordon Ramsay as the LSI and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the SLE. The main drive for Arnold was to become famous and after becoming the best bodybuilder, his natural aspiration was to go into acting. He used to deliberately make videos where he'd say shocking things, so that he could get more attention. What I don't see to Arnold that I would expect to see from LSI is a great focus on with a clear absence of . Instead, I see plenty of and with a consistently attempted , even if he lacks emotional range.

I'd say that Laci Green's approach is rather more oriented than having anything to do with . It's largely about enthusiasm-generation and message-spreading, with a feel-good, inclusive feel that grates on people's nerves. There is also a significant lack of depth or long-term insight to her messages.

For James Franco, well, I have seen people saying ESI for him, but I cannot find justification for it. I think everyone appreciates he's a universally likeable guy in an understated, not over the top manner. However, the guy is especially known for his incredibly varied life, where although a successful actor and a film-maker, goes on university courses taking as many credits as he can. There is not clear reason why he would do this beyond curiosity and a desire for self-development. His quotes indicate someone who wants to do lots of different things to high quality, rather than perfect a single path.

"If the work is good, what does it matter? I'm doing it because I love it. Why not do as many things I love as I can? As long as the work is good."

"Not having any real direction, one writer would lead me to another."

"I'm going to try to not let anyone put me in a box, and that certainly applies to the things I do outside of acting."

"I guess what I enjoy most is directing, because it incorporates all aspects of filmmaking. Directing is in the same line as acting - both are popularity contests, and in both you're trying to tell a story through the film as a medium."

"The new critique you're gonna start hearing about James Franco, is 'He's spreading himself too thin."

Overall I see Leading with Delta values.

@echidna1000, I have a hard time seeing Ramsey as an Ij, if anything he is the antithesis of the temperament. Always moving in some way, volatile, turbulent etc. The situations he thrives in are chaotic and require quick adaptation which is supposed to be a bad environment for Ijs.

The comment I quoted earlier from Arnie is clear 3D Se. I also believe that his Si is 4D. The confidence he shows in the video below when dealing with health and comfort matters from all angles of time as well as his lack of flexibility and openness in his principles point straight to LSI.

    Laci Green...

She has far too much Ne for an ESE. In the first video she effortlessly juggles several possibilities, viewpoints and ideas and compares them on the basis of +Fi. She also seemed quite -Ne when it came to the prospect of facing criticism and group interaction. We also have quotes like these...

"My YouTube stuff has always been about the pursuit of 'forbidden' knowledge."

"Yes, I am a feminist. I wouldn't describe myself as the ideal that people sometimes make me out to be. I feel that things tend to be messier than that, and frankly, that's the way I like it."

In the second video she is clearly Te-valuing, going into her typical long-winded dialogue about the practicality of the ideas and solutions discussed in her video.

    And the last video...IEE.

You raise some good points about Franco so I'll need to look into that but he does sort of VI as Se-valuing.
