The way industry is set up. Somehow it's cheaper to buy something made in Cambodia than something made down the street, but it costs me nothing to go down the street and at least hundreds of dollars to fly to Cambodia. It's only cheaper to get things from Cambodia because it's been designed to be much more cost-effective to load massive ships and go around the world than it is to get things from down the street, and for Cambodia to export their goods to first-world countries for very little instead of selling them down the street there.

Maritime transport is significantly cheaper than road cargo - about four times per ton/mile cheaper. The reason we import things from the third world is because the costs of inputs in the third world is much cheaper.

So while its only four times cheaper to transport your fidget spinner over water, its probably ten-twenty times cheaper to make it elsewhere, especially considering intermediate goods required and other inputs like fixed assets and labour.

Industry is 'set up' to produce for profit, not requirement. Thats the root problem.

Not saying people shouldn't be held accountable for their actions before a court of law, but I can't stand this mob mentality. Let's just get our pitchforks and burn everyone who is accused, and yay, they are men, too. It's private justice and it's a sick one at that.
