This is a documentary about the origins of propaganda and consumerism in America and their roots in Freudian psychoanalysis. Pretty interesting stuff. Trump and all the stuff that is going on right now is just the logical conclusion of a process that was started long ago.
I can't remember if I saw this Adam Curtis series, but I think it would be good for me to (re)watch at some point.

Too long to watch. I already know what they'll say though and my answer is, the self ain't new. Ego is essential and a necessary evil of being human. Check out what Buddha has said about it, the thoughts translate neatly to what capitalism does.
