I’ve had to consciously mentally switch into doing it more as an adult because now it’s expected of me. In the environment I grew up in it was not required of me/people and also considered too direct and threatening.

More doesn't necessarily imply better IMO. It all depends on how much you *want* to connect with said people

Eye contact seems useless when it comes to how I prefer to orient myself. I pretty much figure out people quickly and vaguely based on what they talk and other signals. Then I just think: "This answer will produce this answer from that person and etc". It is actually quite frustrating to experience this.

If you want to manipulate people then you need to plug into to the moment with them which involves manipulating immediate signals and thus produces certain outcome. I find this quite frustrating.

I can't think and focus on body signs at the same time. So inevitably I have to look away often or else I'll just get lost mentally. In fact, looking at people's eyes usually means I'm not even listening to what they are saying, so in my case I think eye contact is an overwhelming failure.

I think I just happen to be physically sensitive and most human related things that people do in conversation tend to be a distraction or violation of that. Which explains why I hate talking to most people- because they expect too much presence.
