At first, impressionist art was mocked my fine art schools. but it came to be accepted and loved and later developed to social realism and in USSR, socialist realist style (which is to art what socionics is to typology).
impressionist art uses thick strokes of colour to give impressions of light rather than precise painting of scenes. i find this extremely attractive.
one of my favourite impressionistic pieces is Monet's Cliffs at Etretat.
though my favourite painting of all time is Rylov's In the Blue Expanse. It's sort of impressionistic but also a realist piece.
