Default Big Five traits by country/state

We've had threads about the personality types of countries and at least one about a quiz about which country suits you best, but I could not find if we've had one on actual test results mapped geographical.

If anyone finds any further related research (whether Big Five or otherwise), please post it here!

    Minnesota

    E: 52.9

    A: 61.6

    C: 52.5

    N: 43.4

    O: 38.5

I can definitely see the general agreeableness among Minnesotans. They don't call us 'Minnesota nice' without a reason, ya know ya betcha.

I also think overall we are low on neuroticism.

I'm not sure I agree with the low openness to experience though. I think it depends on the region of Minnesota. In the more rural regions, it seems more conservative but in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, it seems quite liberal, especially in Minneapolis.

I appreciate all your efforts, but I find the results strange in light of how I experience various U.S. states.

Yes, the New York one seemed odd to me at least, apart from maybe neuroticism and openness.

I live in the northern panhandle of West Virginia which is more like New England then the rest of WV and I generally fit with the area's score. Introverted, Disorganized, and Disagreeable.

The data makes sense to me in how I would expect which people to be in what area. Us north easterners are the way we are because we get fed up with all bullshit that comes with being next to other people all the time, therefore we close ourselves off and create chaos to disrupt all the shit that gets imposed on us.

As for the northern mid west it completely makes sense why that area contains the most agreeable and conventional people. Anybody with any ambition and fighting spirit would stay as far away as possible from a landscape as bland and void of opportunity as that area is.

    Georgia.
Not sure why, unless it has to do with @Subteigh's post. I've never spent much time in Georgia, so I can't say if I would relate well to the people there. I'm not fond of most Southern states. If Florida sinks beneath the waves, well, that would be a start.

I've been in every state in the Union except Alaska and Hawaii, but most of them didn't make much of an impression. The area around the Appalachian Mountains is pretty, as are some parts of Wisconsin and south-central Ohio. The cities that I like are Ann Arbor, MI, Chicago, IL, San Jose, CA, San Francisco, Santa Fe, NM, Denver, CO, Bozeman, MT. I should probably revisit the Northwestern states, since I haven't been there since college.

Places I don't like very well are Florida, most of the South because of racism and conservatives, New York city and its surrounds because of the neuroticism, the parts of the West which are water disasters in progress, the Great Plains states which are flat and boring, and many of the old industrial cities in the Midwest and Northeast, which are collapsing and depressing, with only a few exceptions.

California is a strange place. Fantastic weather, beautiful scenery, great food and wine, lots of very well educated liberals (along with the nuts), good high-tech economy, but when I was there, I felt uncomfortable whenever I encountered the Mexicans and other poor social classes. It is a place of great income disparities. I was always aware when I was walking around that I and all the other techies were making five or ten times what the underclass was living on, and that makes me very uncomfortable. If this is the future, we need to change course.

Texas sounds awesome, as long as it's not an area with too many religious fundies. I hear it's very freewheeling and libertarian, you just do your own thing and everyone leaves you alone. Lots of open space to drive for hours too.

I've only passed through it, so I didn't get a very good idea of what lving there would be like though.

Other states I liked: Colorado was the most beautiful, but also redneck-ish in the rural areas. We ran into some strange people.

California: I've only been to the south, LA and San Diego, also Seqouia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The people are friendly, but LA has alot of poverty, hundreds of homeless people sleeping on the beach in Santa Monica. San Diego was more yuppy-ish at least the parts where I visited. Cali is also a state with some really nice scenery, I imagine there are some liberals there that are pretty extreme though.

Arizona: Nice scenery, not familair with the southern part, the only "real" city I saw was Flagstaff and I wouldn't mind living there, nice town in the mountains surrounded by pine trees, but it's probably a haven for meth dealers though...

Nevada: I consider Las Vegas my hometown. I would probably go back to Vegas if I went back to the US, due to the contacts I have there. The problem with Nevada is that its economy is corrupt, the casinos rule, and you can't do anything business-wise without their authorization.

New Mexico: Poorer than the other states, but still nice and very freewheeling.

NYC is a really impressive city, but I don't remember much specific since I was 5 when I visited.

Ah yes, breeding stock. Imagine a long line of women in stockades with legs bent over, oohing and moaning like cows in heat, with a sign above which says "fresh stock - ready to be tested". I have created a list of all the U.S. states, categorized according to whether they represent the self, the idealized female, a neutral, or an enemy.

I will enjoy testing out my assumptions.

It looks like Ohio, West Virginia, Delaware, Maine and New Hampshire are the best states for me to find suitable breeding stock. Honorable mentions to Idaho and Wyoming. I will definitely avoid Florida, South Carolina, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.

So the answer to my problems is to move somewhere whiter, colder and more mountainous than here. That means it must be at least 85% white, get below freezing during the day in winter, not just at night, and there must be mountains over 4000 metres high.

Maybe Idaho and Wyoming in the U.S. then. I will also check out Switzerland and Russia. Women who shoot wild animals are hot.

(My dual is SxI, so low O and low C are preferred)
