Thread: Most preferred to least preferred functions

  1. #1

Default Most preferred to least preferred functions

in mbti the functions are listed as most to least preferred (beebe's model):

    eg. ISTJ

    (ego)
    1. Si
    2. Te
    3. Fi
    4. Ne

    (shadow)
    5. Se
    6. Ti
    7. Fe
    8. Ni

in socionics i don't think there is a preferred function order exactly, but there are valued and unvalued blocks. perhaps this is the preferred function order:

    ISTp
    (ego block)
    1. Si
    2. Te
    (super id)
    3. Ne
    4. Fi

    (id)
    5. Se
    6. Ti
    (super ego)
    7. Ni
    8. Fe

notice the super id and super ego functions are in reverse order here. so Fe is the least preferred for an ISTp here, instead of Ni.

what do you think? is the least preferred function the ROLE or the POLR?

same thing with the superID... mbti has the mobilizing function(Fi here) as more preferred than the suggestive (Ne). Is this true in your experience? Do people prefer the MOBILIZING over their SUGGESTIVE function?

Think of it like this(using mbti and socio FiSe):

    MBTI: FiSeNiTe // FeSiNeTi(shadow functions are...eh)
    Socio: FiSeTiNe // TeNiFeSi

FiSe: Well, it sure better be present( )!
TeNi:Think of it like this: 1-2-6-5 and 1-2-3-4-5-6. In short, your second two MBTI functions are UNCONSCIOUS(I refer to Jung himself now), as are the first two IEs in dual stack in socio. But what about order, you mr random? Very well, let's go by dimensionality and strength of IEs: 1st and 8th are 4D, 2nd and 7th are 3D, 3rd and 6th are 2D and 4th and 5th are 1D. So it makes sense that you order them in the following way, no? 4D -> 3D -> 2D -> 1D(descending order).

    1st MBTI function: Conscious 4D function ( Fi )
    2nd MBTI function: Conscious 3D function ( Se )
    3rd MBTI function: Unconscious 2D function ( Ni )
    4th MBTI function : Unconscious 1D function ( Te )

FiSeNiTe or in socio: FiSeTiNe // TeNiFeSi

    You're welcome

least preferred is of course the PoLR

and yes the Beebe model slightly differs from Model A in terms of that (role/PoLR) but otherwise surprisingly similar ordering of functions.

Well there's two ways of seeing this... ILE is both an irrational type and a T type, and an E type, so to posit introversion, a judging orientation, and in particular F orientation as their POLR is natural from that point of view.
On the other hand, if we note that by Jungian theory, two auxiliaries are possible, N-dominants end up with orders like NTFS... this more or less emphasizes the dom-inferior divide as primary, and treats the middle two functions as either supporting the dominant (in Jung, synonymous with the conscious attitude), or the inferior (the unconscious attitude).

Beebe is more or less an offshoot of Jungian theory where he includes the idea that deploying a function in the opposite attitude to the preferred one produces an "opposing personality" + his slant that the auxiliary is the opposite attitude of the dominant. Combined, this leads to things like NiTeFiSe has opposite NeTiFeSi.

In my experience, people often like whichever model captures the particular outcome of oppositions/interplays of function-attitudes in their particular psyches best.

mbti functions are fucked up, that system was not build on functions but on dichotomies, functions were attached based on some faulty criteria which made the functions of introverts incorrect. Best is to pay no attention to them.

In socionics the model A is correct and observable/testable (after a long while) in reality in people. However I find the first two functions are mainly the most visible, and the other six not so much or not at all. Function 3 to 8 are functions you don't like to use, cannot use or just look for in others. Function 1 and 2 are counscious, strong and visible. Model A is a good theoretical framework but in reality you can only visibly see nr 1 and 2 at work.

I would say that's true when observing yourself but not when observing others. As the first two functions are most conscious in you.. but everyone utilizes all of them and all of them can be noticed in others, more easily than in yourself, I think

Isn't it that function 1 and 2 are preffered over functions 3 and 4, and therefor more utilized?

If by 3 and 4 you mean Superego block, yes. But don't forget about 1) Superego is still utilized 2) other functions are also, ID functions are pretty strong for example. As a result you can see a mix of stuff but we are on the same page in terms of how it would still be the Ego functions only that are used with much more consistency than the rest.

But isn't it that the ID functions are particularly weak which is why a dual is such a complementary personality, someone who can do things you cannot do.

No no, you remember that wrong, superID is that one, ID is strong, check Model A here: http://www.the16types.info/vbulletin...-of-the-Psyche
